I love poker - thread #3
This time folks, I truly do love poker folks.
I've had a breakthrough of sorts lately. I play in a lot of SNG tourneys at PartyPoker and typically finish in the money about 55-60% of the time. Not bad, but typically it was 2nd or 3rd. I had a very hard time playing head to head poker and finishing in 1st for some reason. (finished first <5% of the time) Well, this weekend was very good for me. In single table SNGs, I finished in the money 6 of 7 times including 3 firsts. The amazing thing, at least for me, is that in two of those wins, I was shortstacked by a 3 1/2 to 1 margin and managed to wear the big stack down to get the win. Yeah for me. I also had another breakthrough on the large multi-table front. On a whim, I played a 9+1 qualifier to PP's $250,000 Sunday Tourney. I finished in the top 18 out of 477 players and gained a 200+15 ticket to the big game. Results of that tourney were encouraging. I played well, but ran into a semi-bad beat (my KK vs. 77 - he caught a 7 on the turn) and played short-stacked for another half-hour before the blinds caught me. Finished 950 or so out of 1571. Not a bad weekend for SplitP1. I'm not exactly sure what changed in my game, but I am going to analyze my hand histories from over the weekend to get an idea of what is going right. Yeah me! Tonight, while shortstacked, I went all-in pre-flop with KQ spades. My buddy's girlfriend, who isn't normally that terrible a player, was the only caller. We flipped over our cards, and she showed J3 offsuit. Flop comes 6 9 10, one spade. Turn pairs the 6, no spade. River, of course, is a 3. Poker's awesome.
