NFL 2K5 480p
Anyone else think that this game (and others) aren't really as awesome as they are made out to be when in widescreen and progressive scan? When progressive scan is turned on for me, it just looks like antialiasing is turned off - all the graphics have jaggies. I haven't tried it without PS, but i'm wondering if it will look smoother...
BTW this is with the Xbox version. |

Wow, I am stunned. Granted, it is the first 480p game I have ever seen, but the difference between how sharp and downright stunning the game looks in widescreen/progressive vs 4:3 and interlaced is astounding. It looks better than any video game I have ever seen. Are you playing this on a native widescreen/progressive tv? Generally I have found things look better when displayed in the native mode of the monitor.

What do you have to buy (other than an HDTV ready TV) to get the 480p mode? I want to try it out.

The Xbox High Definition AV Pack. Then boot your Xbox without a disk in the drive, go in to the video setup, and tell it you have a widescreen TV and turn up all the video options (I forget exactly how you tell it what resolutions your TV supports).

Yeah, I am using a 34" widescreen Sony XBR910...I can kind of see how the picture looks more high-resolution (the lines are sharper and more clearly defined), but curves and non-right angled lines have jaggies. This may sound weird, but it almost looks like the picture is too sharp for the game output's own good (if that makes sense, kind of like how a standard definition tv image looks crappy when filtered through an hdtv's line doubler).
I'm almost positive I've set everything correctly. I'll have to go home tonight and try it without the progressive scan settings turned on on the xbox. |
