Just imagine the records Julio would have if he didn't miss those 3 years due to World War 2...

I read a funny piece in the back of SI a few months ago about Julio Franco. I wish I could remember some of the funny quotes, but I think it was a Rick Reilly piece about how old he really is and how much he's done.

Edit: Found one funny quote...
``He might be 58 for all we know,'' Reilly wrote. ``One, he's Dominican, and a birth certificate to a Dominican is like an odometer to a used-car salesman. Two, he doesn't celebrate his birthday -- only Jesus'.'

I read that he wants to play until he's 50, or three more years I think.

He's my girlfriend's favorite player ever (we're Rangers fans, so this dates back to the early 90s), and the reason she loves baseball to this day. For her birthday last year, I framed about 10 of his baseball cards, including his rookie, and arranged them to surround an autographed picture of him as a Ranger. Now, though, as we are starting to plan to move in together (the girlfriend and I, not Julio and I), I didn't think about the possibility of this thing becoming the centerpiece in our living room... Ah well, could be worse - At least she's not a Barry Bonds fan... And she may be the one and only Julio Franco worshipper. ever...
