What's your favorite movie of the year so far?
I really enjoyed War of the Worlds. It gets my vote. The preview to King Kong looked really good too, except I know the T. Rexes lose the fight.

I'm surprised you liked War of the Worlds considering the aliens died.

Sin City I think. I didn't really love anything, but that movie entertained me the most.

I would have to go with Sin City as well. Though I thought Batman was really quite good. I saw War of the Worlds yesterday. It was ok. Some decent scenes and some decent tension, but over all it was ok. B-/3 out of 5 stars.

For me, it'd have to be 'War of the Worlds'. I'd have to say 'Kingdom of Heaven' would come in second with 'Star Wars Episode III' being a distant third.
The previews for 'The Great Raid' and 'King Kong' look pretty good. Last edited by RebelMan : 07-25-2005 at 03:44 PM. |

I'll second crash. That movie was simply outstanding and received no acclaim that I ever heard.

1. Star Wars III, 2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Haven't seen about 3 other movies I really wanted to check out, but I can wait until they are on DVD now. Do want to go see Bad News Bears still.

Only seen two this year
1. Batman Begins (but I've been a big Batman fan since the early 70's) 2. Hitchhikers Guide (decent adaptation, but not as good as it should have been) Missed Sin City; won't miss King Kong--wife wants to see The Island (I've told her just to rent Clonus: the Cloning Horror, same damn story) |

None of this year's movies are out on DVD, so I vote 'none of the above'. The only movie I did see was wretchedly bad, Star Wars 3.

I need to check out Batman Begins. I'm still scarred from the last few pieces of Batman trash, even if they are completely different.

I'd guess my top two are,
Sin City Revenge of the Sith I haven't seen Crash or Batman Begins. I really liked Hitchhiker's Guide.

Hands down.
BATMAN BEGINS No doubt the best movie for this year, so far. I'm looking forward to the Christmas blockbusters, though. Does anyone know when Goblet of Fire is coming out?

Top two: Crash and Sin City
Second tier: Batman Begins, Episode 3, Charlie and the chocolate factory If I had to pick a number one I'd to go with Crash, but Sin City wasn't too far behind. Last edited by timmynausea : 07-26-2005 at 03:26 AM. |

I still can't understand all the hype about 'Crash'. I saw it the other week and was completely underwhelmed. I thought it was very similar to 'Grand Canyon', but without the emotion.
By far my favourites were '2046' and 'A Letter to True' (that might have been out last year in the States, but it turned up at the Cambridge Film Festival a couple of weeks ago so it's new to me). 'Sin City' was pretty cool as well. |

Oldboy (Korean)
I believe it only hit the states this year. Amazing movie. The second best movie I saw this year was another foreign film, 3 Iron.

Yeah, 'Oldboy' was a lot of fun. '3 Iron' is coming to my cinema next month - I'm looking forward to seeing it.
While I think of foreign films, if anyone enjoyed 'Ring', there's a new Japanese film called 'One Missed Call' that was showing here a little while back. It's very similar to 'Ring', but is a lot more tongue in cheek and has prettier girls. I was sold. |

Sin City for entertainment purposes like I've seen.
Then there is Wedding Crashers, laugh out loud funny. Then there is Hustle&Flow, made me want to straight up be a gangsta afterwards. |

We don't have a baby, but work schedules have ruined my movie going experience as usually I don't like going to movies without Mrs. Eaglesfan.
When I picked Batman first, I should note that I've only seen 3 movies this year. Batman, Episode III, and one in January that I can't even recall what it was. Speaking of which, we actually have a Tuesday off together next week. So, I'm hoping this thread will help me pick which movie we are going to go see |

Good choices so far, Crash would definitely be a frontrunner for me, but I really enjoyed Sin City and Batman as well.
Another one that's more off the radar and I thoroughly enjoyed was March of the Penguins. Beautifully shot film and a fascinating story. One for the whole family as well. Highly recommended. |

What the hell is wrong with me? Maybe I am just becomming an old softie. I haven't seen a movie in 3 week so the newer ones are out. But, so far this year the winner would be......

I haven't been to the movies yet this year. In fact, I think the last movie I went to the theater to see was The Two Towers.

Released in Korea in 2003, but the first I'd seen it in the theatres was about months back. Anything I saw in a theatre qualifies as "new" to me. |
