My neighbor down the street is having a guys-only kegger & bonfire on Friday night. Apparently he does this every year, but we've only been here a year. Anyway, he said to bring something to munch on, which is how we get to this topic.

What, to you, is the quintessential "man food"? Off the top of my head, I'm going to say beef jerky.

flere,

Send me an email... I have a 77-page Word Doc with "Tailgate Food" recipes which is a synonym for "Man Food" in the midwest....

Slow roast some pork bbq, buy a good stock bbq sauce(or make your own), and spice it up all good. And then buy some big "Man Sized" buns.

Wings - but instead of the traditional hot, try teriyaki or lemon pepper.
Brats - grilled and then slow cook them in a pot of beer, onions, and peppers.
Taco Dip - glass dish with cream cheese, one package of taco seasoning, then refired beans, cheese. Bake until cheese is bubbly and top with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and black olives.

BIG OLE POT OF CHILI!!!!

Okay, you got some things right here... but I don't think there's really any room in a "Man Food' conversation for the following terms:

lemon pepper
glass dish
cream cheese
bubbly
shredded lettuce
olives

Many of these things are perfectly fine foods, but "Man Food" is about killing something and exposing it to flame. None of the above entries need apply.

I'm not entirely comfortable with the term "Man Food".

Manly Food seems more appropriate.

I did a spin of "MAN FOOD". I understand the broad definition, but hey it's 2005. Man Food is boring, you need to spice it up a bit.

Bingo. MizzoRah's suggestions are all fine and good, but for an occasion that is specifically termed to be about "Man Food", throw all that extra flourish out and go with the standby as you have so succinctly described it.

This thread makes me think of the Home Improvement episode with the Man's Kitchen. It was beautiful- had its own butcher, beans and potatoes for veggies, and self-cleaning.

I'm guessing you're in Michigan, so no, you wouldn't have had it up there. It's a Texas beer that's spread across the south on to the east coast now. Good stuff...

I'll take on of those Coronas in a pinch, though.
