Question to any paid coaches out there
Is a coaching minor sufficient to get started in collegiate coaching?
Because I can only find a handful of schools that offer coaching majors and I'm pretty sure all coaches don't come from those colleges. On the most of the athletic association sites I've looked at, a coaching major or minor is sufficient for certification, but what I really want to do is end up being a college basketball head coach, hopefully Div. I (Yeah a real long shot I know, but I can always dream! ) So I was wondering if a coaching minor would work for getting my foot in the door as an assistant coach somewhere.

I know two people who have coached at the collegiate level, one as a DI basketball head coach. Both started out as full time teacher/part time coaches at the high school level. I assume that's the standard path, unless you have really good connections.

Most coaches will tell you it's all about networking. Your best bet is to go somewhere where you can network a lot and hope to get on as a manager, then develop into a grad asst. If one of those places overlaps with a "coaching" minor (something I've honestly never heard of until just now) then I'd say go for it. But I'd back it up with a degree in education.
Good luck!! Regards, Chas

Izude, surely you can get on as a manager with one of the Cowboy teams. I can't imagine they wouldn't want the help.
