EHM 2005: AAL4 Ithaca Blizzard (2005 - )
And I start up a new dynasty now that I've patched the game and my old saved game won't load.
I now take over the Ithaca Blizzard of the AAL4. My short term goal is this: Get out of Ithaca. I want to get into any other league (other than AAL3. Not much of a jump there). Mostly aiming for a job in the ECHL or the CHL (WHL, OHL or QMJHL). Long term goal is to get a job in the NHL, of course. And so, the journey begins... The Ithaca board told me that all they expect is for me to improve the roster. In other words, they have no expectations. Sweet. I look over the roster and personnel. As far as personnel goes....yeah, I need many of everything. No scouts, no assistant coaches, no head coach, and no assistant GM. I hope the board doesn't get pissed when I spend a ton of money filling out the personnel jobs. I have plenty of time to get things in order, though. It's August 4, 2005. My first game is on october 21st, 2005. So I have 2 and a half months to get everythign straightened out. Last edited by sabotai : 05-04-2006 at 07:06 PM. |

American league. It basically goes NHL -> AHL -> ECHL -> AAL3 -> AAL4. A league where players who aren't good enough to be in even the ECHL go. |

2005-2006 Ithaca Blizzard
Goalies Starter: Kyle Sertich - 25 years old Good goalie. Technicals are 10-12, and he's agile (13) Backup: Cody Kennedy - 24 years old Technically ok (9-10). Ok agility (12), Mentals are mostly not good. Defensemen Line 1 (LD - RD) RD/LD Tom Moore - 31 years old Average, all around defensmen. Not great at any one thing, but he doesn't have a weakness. RD Tyler Picard - 26 years old Little below average, but he is strong (13) and he can hit (14) Line 2 (LD - RD) LD Quinn Fair - 32 years old Decent skater, mentally there but technically a bit below average RD Brandon Leahy - 28 years old Ok all around. Technically below average Line 3 (LD - RD) LD Doug Whitehead - 21 years old Not good at all. RD Rick Hill - 25 years old Below average Backups None right now, but I just made a contract offer to a defenseman that will probably bump one of these players off the starting squad Forwards Because of roster limits, I only have 3 lines Line 1 (LW - C - RW) LW Shawn Adams - 35 years old Good skater, but weak (Strength 5), mentally and technically sound. Has a mean slapshot (16). C Craig Nelson - 33 years old Another good skater, but weak (Strength 5), mentally very good and will be my Captain (influence 13, Teamwork 15), technically decent. Good on the faceoff (15) RW/C Dan Murray - 22 years old I signed him a month ago from Northeastern college. Decent skater with good stamina (16). Hard working (15) and determined (15). Technically averaeg (8-12) Line 2 (LW - C - RW) LW/C Sean Turner - 23 years old Decent skater. Mentally lacking, technically below average. Can deke well (14) and has a good wristshot (14) C Bryan Clarke - 22 years old Good skater, Mentally good. Technically below average. RW/C Josh Petersen - 21 years old Ok skater with good stamina (16). Creative (15) and very good passing (18). Hopefully he will generate some nice scoring chances with his creative passing. Line 3 (LW - C - RW) LW Travis Kauffeldt - 20 years old Decent skater with good stamina (16). Hard working (15) and aggressive (14). Technically average C Bobby Price - 31 years old Good skater, good mentals, technically good (7-12) RW Brandon Talbot - 29 years old Average all around Back ups C Rob Kuntz - 22 years old Currently injured and will compete for a starting job when he gets back in about 2 weeks. Good skater, mentally very good, technically average C/LW/RW John Lundbohm - 22 years old Good skater but lacking mentally. Average technically C/LW Joe Stephens - 22 years old Good skating, good mentals. Technically lacking a bit. |

Preseason Media Hype
Madison, Urbana and Grosse Point were said to be the 3 best teams in the AAL4. Ithaca placed 9 (out of 14). Team MVP: G Kyle Sertich, Key New Face: RW/C Dan Murray Positional Rankings G Kyle Sertich: #2 Goalie LW Shawn Adams: #4 Left Wing C Bobby Price: #8 Center RW/C Dan Murray: #3 Right Wing RW/C Josh Peterson: #4 Right Wing The Bobby Price ranking took me a bit by surprise. Looking over my centers again, I guess I value certain attributes more highly than the game does. |

Beginning November 2005
A lot of movement early. I signed a hard hitting defenseman named Louis Robitaille. I put him on my 2nd line at LD, moved Fair down to 3rd line and Whitehead is now on the bench as a backup. Bobby Price suffered a dislocated shoulder and will be out for 2 months. We had a nice start, winning our first two games of the season. Kyle Sertich was a wall as we won both by shutout (45 for 45 saves combined in those two games). But then we stumbled and lost 2, ending the opening month with an even record. Standings Code:
Results Code:
Stats Goals Josh Peterson - 4 Dan Murray - 3 Assists Craig Nelson - 4 Quinn Fair - 2 Points Josh Peterson - 5 Dan Murray - 4 Craig Nelson - 4 Average Rating Kyle Sertich - 8.75 Louis Robitaille - 9.00 Tom Moore - 7.75 Josh peterson - 7.75 Goalie Stats Kyle Sertich (2-2-0) - GAA: 1.50; SV%: 0.953, SO: 2; AvR: 8.75 |

Me too - I've always thought about giving EHM a try, as I know hockey much better than soccer. However, I've always heard about it being a bit buggy and nowhere near as solid as FM. Are you a big fan of the game, sabotai?

Ehm is quite a lot of fun if you're a hockey fan.

Yup, I'm a big fan of the game. It's no more or less buggy than FM is. The one thing I don't like about EHM is that it's basically on par with last verion's FM. Meaning that you fire up the latest FM, see all of these neat, cool things. But then fire up EHM, and it just feels 2 years old (since it is impossible to not compare it to FM). That might be where you get the "not as solid as FM". That said, I play EHM a lot and barely play FM at all right now. One of the reasons is that I can just have my head coach control the games in EHM. In FM, you have to coach every game yourself. So it makes playing through a season in EHM much faster. (You can still set lines and tactics and tell your coach to use them during the game. That's how I play). Not that I mind taking awhile to go through a season, but in FM, I just don't feel like I know what I'm doing, and it's not possible to ease yourself into it like it is in EHM. |

How quickly do the games sim? Is it like FM where you just kind of sit there for a few minutes wondering what's going on?

I have every single league set to "enhanced", so occasionly, when there are a TON of games to sim, it takes up to 20 seconds or so. Most of the time, it only takes a couple of seconds. I'd imagine if you only had just the US and Canada leagues on, it'd always take a couple of seconds. |

Start of January 2006
We've hit kind of a streak of mediocrity. I lose a player here and there to injury and it's become rare that I put my full team of best players on the ice. It's also becoming clear that a few players on my team just can't cut it. I'm looking for replacements constantly (and not finding many). On a big plus, my goalie, Kyle Sertich, was named Goalie Of The Month for December. Standings Code:
