Extracting zip files question

I've been doing some major downloading/unzipping today as I'm putting FM on my PC and I like teh mods. I noticed that there is a huge difference between letting windows handle zips and letting WinRAR handle zips. Unzipping two skin folders took approximately 10 minutes without WinRAR and maybe a minute with WinRAR. Skins generally have around 2,000 files and take up around 10 MB of space, so they basically consist of a bunch of tiny little files. Does that have anything to do with it?

I feel stupid for always allowing Windows to be associated with zips.

Windows sucks as a uncompressing program. It's better to utilize 3rd party software. As to why, well it's faster.

Why? He's already using WinRAR and not complaining about that. He's complaining about Windows.

WinRar is capable. I use both, just because my company is licensed for WinZip, but I still have to work with .rar files from time to time.

I have no idea why Windows sucks so bad in this area. You would think by now, they would have made some sort of update or something that would improve that, but they never bothered to over the years.

I agree with dangarion about using a 3rd party whenever you can. That's why I pretty much drifted away from Internet Explorer, Outlook and the rest of Microsoft Office for Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice.

I have also ran into a problem, where if you email someone a zipped file windows will refuse to unzip it.
I had to walk the through installing WinZip, and it worked fine.
Apparently, anything emailed is too dangerous for Microsoft to let you have.
