I think a fly just committed suicide
True story...
As I'm sitting here posting in/reading the 9 year old baseball story I notice a fly buzzing around the room. I decide to go grab the fly swatter, which I set right next to the laptop. As I'm reading, I look over at the swatter and the fly is sitting on it. I actually pick up the fly swatter, with the fly staying on it, turn it over, while the fly is still hanging on and proceed to drop the hammer, killing the fly. It's as if he knew it would happen. |

Here we go again with the biased reporting so prevalent in America these days. The reporter, heybrad, just assumes this is a male fly when, in fact, the reporter has no first hand knowledge as to the gender of said fly. I for one am sick and tired of having to read supposedly first hand accounts of stories where the writer inserts his or her prejudices into the story. Sad, really.

The important thing here is the size of the fly. Was it small? I have noticed that the smaller the fly, the quicker it is. Since the fly just stood there, it leads me to believe that it must have been pretty big.

I found 2 flies just laying dead on the family room floor today. Kinda like they just died in mid flight and fell to earth. Or maybe they collided at high speed and took each other out. That would have been kinda neat to see.

Or maybe one of them went all Darth Vader on the fly population and the other one just lost the will to live.

That could be it too. Come to think of it, I did feel a disturbance in the force this afternoon, almost as if thousands of flies just ceased to exist all at once.

I think it went to the fly swatter to mourn for the legions of his brothers and sisters who have died in that evil place. It's just too bad for him that he didn't realize that the evil was still alive...

My undergraduate degree was in microbiology and I worked in a lab that raised genetically altered Drosophilia Melanogaster, a fruit fly. I've seen several flies over the years that I thought "committed suicide" although obviously without conscious thought. It's actually a very interesting phenomenon.

I knocked a fly unconscious the other day. He was on the round next to my foot. I went to step on him, then hesitated. When I moved my foot, he literally fell on his side and laid there for about 10 seconds before slowly coming around!

I had sort of a mentor when I was younger who was trying to teach me the ways of life, the right path to enlightenment, and how to defend myself against bullies, who would try for hours to catch flies with a pair of chopsticks. He could never do it, and I sat down and in a few minutes caught one. He made me pay for that disrespect by waxing the wooden walkway.

Not sure if it's true or not, and I'm too lazy to snopes it, but I've been told you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. Just sayin'...
