Total Extreme Wrestling: WCW 1993

The date is October 1st 1993, and the wrestling industry is in a decline, most specifically the World Wrestling Federation as they deal with Vince McMahon's upcoming steroid trial, and several sexual harrasment scandals from the past few years.

World Championship Wrestling owner Ted Turner, noticing the trends of the WWF has decided now is the time for WCW to compete with the WCW and has hired a new booker, Mike Ritschel, to take WCW to he #1 wrestling promotion in the world. To accomplish his plan, Mr. Turner has agreed to let Ritschel have full financial and creative control.

So I think Michael Hayes would be the one guy who's involved in all three current dynasties on the forum. Someone just signed him as a commentator in the WCW/WWF one, and I'm pretty sure he's still on the WCW roster in 1993.

Pretty solid roster there. Vader and Sid, fantastic. Looks like you have all the tools to make a great dynasty.

I never saw double A as a face. Looks like you have the makings of a 4 horseman turn if you want - Flair, Sid, AA plus Austin, Rude, Hawk or maybe Ole.

1992-93 was a pretty awseome time for WCW - right before Hogan came in and overshadowed everything else. (I loved early-NWO hogan, but his WCW early face run was just awful).

I don't remember Kane in WCW. Was the gimmick pretty similar to the WWF Kane?

Our biggest competitor is the World Wrestling Federation. They are of an International Size. They are owned by Vince McMahon and the head booker is Pat Patterson. They air Raw live for 2 hours on Monday, and WWF Superstars for 1 hour Sunday, both on the USA Network and TSN in Canada. Raw also airs on Fridays in the UK on Sky Sports.

The WWF's main event picture is populated by Bret Hart, Diesel, Lex Luger, Mr Perfect, Razor Ramon, Yokozuna, The Undertaker and the Steiner Brothers.

None of the other American federations are a threat now, because they are all Regional or below, but here is a quick rundown.

Global Wrestling Federation - Regional fed, based in the Mid South Region. A pseudo successor to World Class. Their ME scene consists of Butch Reed, Jake Roberts, Chris Adams and Koko B. Ware.

Extreme Championshio Wrestling - Regional fed, based in the tri-state area. Formerly known as Eastern Championship Wrestling, the addition of Paul Heyman as their head booker has led to a new philosophy. Their top workers are The Headhunters, Terry Funk, Sabu, Shane Douglas, Mr. Sandman and Mark Lamonica (the future Bubba Ray Dudley)

East Coast Wrestling Association - Regional Fed based in the Mid Atlantic region. The top guys on their roster are the high flying Hardy Brothers, Matt & Jeff.

Smoky Mountain Wrestling - Regional fed based in the South East. Jim Cornette is the owner of this promotion, which has a working agreement with the WWF. Their top stars are the Steiner Brothers, the Rock N Roll Express and Terry Funk.

United States Wrestling Association - Another regional fed based in the South East. Jerry Jarrett is the owner. Jeff Jarrett, Koko B. Ware, Stevie Doll and Terry Funk are the top guys.

World Wrestling Council - Regional fed based in Puerto Rico. Butch Miller, Doink and Terry Funk are their main eventers.

Universal Wrestling Federation - A small fed based in the South West. Herb Abrams' promotion does have a solid roster, with guys like Steve Williams and the Barbarian.

Ohio Valley Wrestling - The WWF's developmental fed

WCW Power Plant - The WCW's developmental fed.

Border City Wrestling - Regional fed based in Ontario, Canada. Their stars are a young Chris Jericho, Vampiro and Uliuli Fifita aka Haku. They also have some future stars like Adam Copeland, Jay Reso, Rhino Richards and Lance Storm.

Asistencia Asesoria y Administracion - Cult sized fed based in Mexico. Owned by Antonio Pena and booked by Konnan. Their top wrestlers include Konnan, La Parka, El Hijo del Santo, Jake Roberts and Eddy Guerrero.

Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre - Cult sized fed also based in Mexico. They are the oldest wrestling promotion in the world. Their top stars include Norman Smiley, Dr. Wagner Jr, Vampiro and Canek amongst others.

Universal Wrestling Association - A regional sized Mexican promotion, their top stars are Canek, Vampiro and Ultimo Dragon.

All-Star Wrestling - Regional sized British promotion. They have no full-time wrestlers on their roster currently.

NWA UK Hammerlock - Another regional sized British promotion. They feature Fit Finlay and Dave Taylor.

Catch Wrestling Association - The only promotion in Europe, they are regional sized. Their top star is currently Ludwig Borga.

All Japan Pro-Wrestling - Cult sized federation based in Japan. Their top stars are Steve Williams, Mitsuharu Misawa, Kenta Kobashi, Toshiaki Kawada, Akira Taue and Takao Omori.

New Japan Pro-Wrestling - National sized Japanese federation. WCW currently has a working agreement with New Japan. Their main event scene includes The Great Muta, Masahiro Chono, Jushin Liger, Yuji Nagata and Hiroshi Hase.

Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling - Regional sized Japanese federation. They are a hardcore based fed that features Sabu, Terry Funk, Mr Pogo and Ricky Fuji.

Michinoku Pro - Another regional sized Japanese federation. They use alot of juniors, and their main event scene is led by their owner The Great Sasuke along with Jinzei Shinzaki, Johnny Smith and Sabu.

Wrestle Association "R" - Another regional sized federation. Their top stars are Bam Bam Bigelow, Yoshihiro Asai aka Ultimo Dragon and their owner Genichiro Tenryu.

Developmental

We currently have a developmental deal with the WCW Power Plant. We currently have 6 guys under developmental contract and they are:

Van Hammer
Devon Storm
Kenny Kaos
Robbie Rage
The Renegade
The Wall

We will be looking for more developmental guys in the near future.

We also have a working agreement with New Japan, and are hopeful that we can either bring certain guys in for talent trades or sign to per appearance deals.

I think I'm going to switch their names to their more well known versions, otherwise I'm gonna be super confused.

I've also put out quite a few negotiation requests, but we'll wait til guys sign before discussing them.

My Notes: We did somethings well. Ric Flair is the biggest star we have. Vader and Rude are solid top heels that we can do somethings with, and they should be able to help build up Cactus and Davey.

I'm really dissapointed that Regal and Benoit didn't click. I had high expectations for the 2 of them, and thought they could have a nice little feud for the TV Title. I'm also slightly dissapointed with the Hollywood Blondes match. The 4 guys in that match should have been able to have a match that was better than a D.

Krusher Kong will never see TV again.

Final Rating: C+

Final Notes: Paul Roma was used too much. I think this show might have hurt our popularity. I'm a little dissapointed by the result of my angle between Rude and Smith.

My Notes:

Benoit had a really good dark match, even on a bad night for him. I think Benoit-Eaton can be one of those matches that can always fill a spot on the card for us. A manager may help Benoit, and he may be an option for the 4th Horsemen. I would have liked to get Flair onto the card somewhere, but there wasn't a spot for him.

Keiji "The Great Muta" Mutoh rejected negotiations with me as he feels he can make more money elsewhere.

Bobby "The Brain" Heenan rejected negotiations with me as he didn't think it was a good career move at the time.

In other negotiations, we were able to sign Jay Reso aka Christian Cage to a developmental deal, Fit Finlay to a per appearance deal, Alex Wright to a developmental deal and John Layfield to a developmental deal. We also signed Devon Storm to a per appearance deal, which should allow us to let him develop at the Power Plant, while still working an occasional dark match for us.

Monday news

Our 2 weekend house shows brought in $43,830 and $14,860 respectively.

Bill Dundee was not happy with his push as an occasional wrestler, so we are gonna give him a chance as a manager and pair him with Lord Steven Regal.

WCW Saturday Night did a 12.68 rating on TBS, while the Main Event picked up a 12.22 rating on TBS and a 0.34 rating on ITV

We also were able to come to terms on a written deal with Dr. Death Steve Williams. We also signed Rob Van Dam to a developmental deal, and were able to bring another mystery singles guy in on a written deal.

We upgraded Cactus Jack (Mick Foley) and Terra Ryzing (Paul Levesque) to written deals, but we weren't able to get Paul Orndorff to take a written deal as he didn't want to give up his booking duties for the Power Plant.

All Japan made an offer to Chris Benoit. They are only cult sized, so we don't have to worry about losing him, but we have to be concerned as he begins to work more shows for other feds.

I'm looking for a new play by play guy so I sent out a couple negotiation requests.

Diamond Dallas Page wants a better push. I'm not sure he deserves it, but he has done a solid job so far and I'll give it a shot.
Awesome Kong wants a better push as well. I guess I can move him up to Opener to join his tag team partner as not a complete waste of space.

Ricky Steamboat is now fully recovered from his injury.

Sid Vicious and Dusty Rhodes were both late for the last show. Since this was their first incident, I'll only warn them, but it better not happen again.

We also came to terms on a written contract with Scott Hudson. He can't start with us until next Wednesday, so Tony Schiavone will have to hold down the fort at the PPV.

We also tried to raid the Steiner Brothers from the WWF, but they requested our negotiation requests as they are already stretched too thin.

Show Rating: B-

Show Notes: I think this show might have actually hurt our overall popularity

======================

My thoughts: Well this is Tony Schiavone's last show as our play-by-play announcer. I suspect that he will have a role as a backstage interviewer with us, but Scott Hudson will announce tomorrow's Main Event show, while Lance Russell will make his debut on next week's Saturday Night show.

Dissapointing show from both an angles and match quality point of view. I really thought Vader and Steamboat would put on a B+ match, at worst. I need to start giving Bobby Eaton some wins. He is a solid midcard guy who has had a bunch of good matches for us. He might be a good guy for a minor feud with Ron Simmons for the TV title. Either that or find him a full time tag partner and let him go for the tag belts.

===========================================

My Thoughts: Good show. Like I said after Saturday Night, Bobby Eaton is a valuable performer. Him and Benoit are 2 guys in the midcard right now who will give us a really good match night after night. I gave Booker T a shot at a more advanced slot, but the fans weren't ready for him in that spot. I need another midcard face tag team. Benoit and Zenk didn't have a great match tonight, but I may consider teaming them up on a more regular basis and working a little program with the Harlemt Heat.
