Question About this SIMGALAXY basketball thing?
I got the link in a topic below, and checked it out. Looks cool, but how much time do you think one would need? Says there is no room for new teams, only buying old ones.
Anyone in a fun league that has a team controlled by the computer? Is this REALLY free?? Thanks! |

Not sure if I totally understand the time question. If you mean how much time per day then I only log in for 5-10 minutes during the season. About 30 minutes during the offseason.
The guy who runs the show, eliminates "dead" teams every week or two it seems. So more teams should be available fairly soon. It really is free. They have a subscription you can pay for though. I do not pay and do not intend too. By paying you can assign jersey numbers, nicknames, release an unlimited amount of players per season(2 for unsubscribed users) and you have a search feature when looking for players to trade for. I am sure there are other things but these are the ones I am aware of. In my league, a subscribed user is in the finals vs. a non-subscribed person. Roughly 5 subscribed people in my league of 29. |

It's a great game, I just signed up last night.
I emailed the main guy, and he said if I could get 25-35 people, we could have our own FOFC league. Anyone interested? |

Yeah, you supposibly can only have one team, but I bet if we were able to add 20-30 new people to his game...
That or get rid of our other teams. |

Here is what he told me via email eariler today:
We currently run one private league like you are talking about and a couple of other leagues that are also password protected. Basically, the way we have done it in the past has been to setup a league, password protect it, then you can pass out that password to whomever you would like to join your league. In these cases you also have some options that are configurable, like many of the options on the "League Info" page... the number of days free agents have to stay on the wire, league shared revenue, etc, etc, etc. Why don't you lineup 30-35 people then let me know and I can setup the league and give you the password. I've already got a team. It takes all of about 3 minutes to run things each day.
It's not at all developed, I don't think. Maybe it's just my point of view. I received a team about 2 games into the season, and my players are all horrid. I don't have enough $$ to train my players, and what I do have, I send in to merchandising, concessions, and advertising. My team is so poor, that the computer value for my players, total, adds up to less than 1/2 the salary cap (Mike Brown lives!). In reading the bulletin board, the subscriber guys have it all geeked out. They've got some spreadsheet that can measure the exact talent on every player, calculate how much $$ you need to improve him, all of that. At this point, I'm not even playing the game for it's basketball features. I'm just curious as to how much of the business side I can build up, to see how much $$ I can make with what could be, the worst team in the league. |

Ugh. Simgalaxy is horrible. I played 3 seasons worth until they began to make the league pro-subscription based. It's just too difficult to build and care about a franchise when you have no chance to remain competitive. And the actual match engine is ridiculous with the 50+ free throws in crucial games.
Scott, the developer, should have spent more time fixing the match engine and less time trying to limit non-subscribers. I'll stick to Jump Shot Basketball leagues. |

I started off with one of the worst teams in my league and only won 12 games my first season, 5-3 so far to start the new season.
No way am I going to give the league title a shot, but I'd like to make the playoffs. The match engines are not really realistic, but all is equal in the game so just deal with it. Stats are stats, they are all relative to each other. I have no plans to subscribe, but it does have some great ideas for a text based web game, based on the GM side of the game.

I just signed up for this and was wondering if anyone who signed up earlier has any experiences (positive or negative) to share?
Is it fairly easy to generate money? I only have $1.8 million right now, but my players salaries are around $40 million. Will it be a struggle to pay for the salaries next year? |

I have 270k. That is my most ever. I have upgraded my stadiums twice and it doesnt appear salaries are relevant to your profit or loss.
The higher your fame ranking the more fans come, so the more revenue. Advertising is very important. As is playing a quality opponent. |

fflix,
I'm a former player. Before it went subscription based, it was a solid game that wasted a couple of minutes a day. The game engine itself is very weak (teams will have 50+ free throws in a game and the gameplans are horrid). The league community was actually filled with good people and made it more fun in my opinion. When it went subscription, essentially they made it too advantageous to be a subscriber. I have friends who are subscribers, but I could never do it until they showed an effort to improve the engine. Sadly, rather than improve the engine I felt like they kept implementing rules and more rules to limit gameplay for non-subscribers until it just became not even remotely worth it. So I've since quit the game and am enjoying Hattrick and a Jumpshot Basketball league. |
