Cedar Rapids, IA Flood

Here is a link. The river crested 11.1 feet over the record set in 1929.

This video shows the complete destruction.
I have a brother who lives in CR. He is not in the flood, but only one of the towns wells is working. If people conserve, they have a 3 or 4 day supply of water.
I have another brother who lives in North Liberty which is about 10 miles south of CR. Both towns are on an island (Iowa City and Coralville are flooded also). If my brother in CR went to my brothers house in NL, he would have to go north to waterloo, west to I35, south to Des Moines then back East. A normal 15 minute trip takes 4 to 5 hours and 281 miles.

My wife keeps looking to Iowa City since her mom is a teacher there. Her house isn't in danger but a lot of stuff in Iowa City and Coralville are- parts of downtown Iowa City and University of Iowa. They're expecting it to crest Monday or Tuesday- problem is, there's a decent chance of rain today and tomorrow. It's bad- they've basically had a pair of 500 year floods within 15 years of each other (1993, 2008).

The Iowa City paper has some pretty dramatic images:

I grew up in Coralville and lived about 5 blocks from the Coralville strip (Hwy 6).
It tends to flood a lot. I remember one year it flooded and the green dinosaur at the one gas station was floating down the road.
But nothing like this.

The Cedar River crested at 32 feet is Cedar Rapids. This is 12 feet over the record flood stage. 737 million dollars in damage.

Iowa City/Coralville wasnt as bad. Peak was lower and sooner.
