Paradox announces Hearts of Iron 3:

Paradox Interactive Forums - Announcement

*boggle*

TEN THOUSAND PROVINCES? Sick. I can just imagine how insanely detailed the game is going to be.

New York, USA (August 20, 2008) – Amidst a backdrop of fevered online speculation, Paradox Interactive has today finally revealed the true identity of "Project Mayhem" at the Games Convention in Leipzig. The next Grand Strategy title to be released from the Paradox Interactive development team is the third instalment in the critically acclaimed Hearts of Iron series.

The Hearts of Iron series has become renowned for beingthe biggest, most detailed and complete strategic game series on World War 2 ever made. Hearts of Iron 3 will follow that tradition closely while focusing on satisfying veteran players through a multitude of brand new features and systems, including a huge map with more than 10,000 provinces.

It's clear this is a game that fans of our titles have been eagerly anticipating", commented Johan Andersson, Head of Development at Paradox Interactive. "Before revealing the project, our upcoming announcement online forum received more than 14,000 page views in less than 24 hours with a third installment of Hearts of Iron seemingly being at the top of everyone's wish list."

Hearts of Iron 3 is scheduled for release in Q3, 2009

Meh. Outside of EU IV this is the least anticipated one for me. I would have been much happier with Vicky 2 or CK2.

I'm the opposite. This interests me a lot more than either Vicky 2 or CK2.

I just hope that it's an actual new version and not just HoI2 with a tacked on 3d engine.

I played the hell out of HoI2 and loved it, but I'm not sure I'd have the motivation to get into another one if they don't do some work on streamlining some things.

I'll follow this, but I'd have preferred any other title.

dola,

If the Paradox AAR forums are any indication though, the EU and HoI series are the big cash cows, so I can see why they went with HoI 3.

The more I play the Paradox games, the more I like the gameplay of Vicky the most. The problem is the timeframe is too short for my tastes (~100 years). Once I get going, it's over.

Anyway, I do like HOI2 a lot, so I'll happily buy HOI3 and probably get a ton of gaming out of it.

I look forward to people asking why there are no swastikas in the game.

I'd have to agree with you here. I'd love to see another Vicky game, and CK2 would be welcome as well. I though HOI2 was very good, no need to update it so soon.
