Vote to change rules on Trade Window

Since the start of FOOL, we've always "assumed" the trade window to begin at the end of the regular season (Except for FOOL Classic teams) and end on Thursday night's export.

Should this change to start on Monday night (the start of free agency) and end on Thursday night? We will vote on it.

Based on the vote, the rule will change at the start of next week's season. For this season, status quo will be in place.

I guess I want to understand this before I vote...

I think that trades agreed to and posted before 10 pm on Sunday should be processed with the the Classic, and be part of the the file that gets released Sunday night. This allows teams to clear up cap space in order to make contract extension offers along with their export on Monday night.

I also think that this 10pm deadline should be somewhat of the end of season trade deadline. We shouldn't be processing any trades after 10 pm on Sunday to give teams a better position to judge their roster or free up cap space.

Another idea I just thought of is this: Assuming the FOOL Classic is run prior to 10 pm every week, a trade window can be set up Sunday night. This could bring the owners together to work on trades. Like a "winter meeting" type of thing. All trades that are agreed to (posted by both owners) prior to midnight will be processed, and a new file can then be sent out at that time. This would then give everybody the opportunity to make deals that they want in order to resign their players. Along with trades agreed to prior to midnight, all other trades agreed to over the weekend could then be processed at this time as well.

What do other people think about this?

DC, I don't understand what the difference between the first two options is?

I like your idea, actually. That's really out of the box.

The first two options are...sometimes, the season ends on Saturday night, because I run the season then. Or Friday night. So since the season never ends on the same night, because it's dependent on my schedule and when I decide to get it out of the way, that's the only real difference between the first two options.

So there is no difference between processing trades prior to the Classic or after, as long as they get processed by the scheduled sim Sunday night.

I think the best and most fair schedule for everybody is this:

Sim season whenever you would like, normally Friday/Saturday.

Release a file after you sim.

If you are going to run the Classic early, only allow exports from the participants.

Another sim is then run Sunday night at 10 pm, allowing teams to make initial contract extension offers.

Then we could have that "winter meeting" type period where trades are processed only.

Remember the excitement a few weeks back where at least 5 or 6 trades were made that night. I think stuff like that is good for the league and creates interest.

I don't really have any issue with this.. but if the league does go with something like this, probably should do it earlier than 10pm though. For us east coasters, I usually have a tough enough time staying up late enough for the sim, much less an after-trade period, since there is work the next morning I have to get up for.

I think you actually earlier suggested moving the FOOL Classic time up earlier to 8pm ET or such, which I think would be a fair compromise if you were going to implement a winter meetings period.

Yeah, if we could figure out a time that a number of us agree to (pretty much anytime Sunday evening eastern time is good for me), it would be cool to have the FOOL Classic run at that time, and then we can talk trades. People don't have to stick around the whole time, especially if they aren't interested in trading, but it would be cool to know that there is a time a number of people will be available.

I'm fine with this, as well as moving the FOOL Classic time to something earlier than 10pm, since that's really the only purpose of the Sunday sim. Maybe 8pm eastern?

I don't know how many people are going to be around next weekend (Labor Day I think), but I should be around, and I'll try and start a thread and get some talk going.

Another note, what is the plan for the sim in two weeks with Labor Day? We should probably see what's best for everybody soon not to piss some people off.

We could

1. Sim to the start of FA on Sunday night and skip the Monday night file.
2. Sim the season Friday, the FOOL Classic Saturday and do the Sunday sim on Monday.
3. Something else.

I'll be around for labor day, so I'm easy with whatever is best for everyone else.. no change or change as long as we know ahead of time.

I voted for option 2, assuming that this means trades will get processed by Sunday night, allowing to trade players before making contract extension offers.
