Toronto Gets a New Identity for 1975

Toronto to have new name, look for 1975

The Toronto Atlantics' management have announced that the team will be picking up a new identity for the upcoming 1975 season. The Atlantics, who chose their name while stationed on Long Beach Island, have been under new management for two years and have been making great efforts to improve their chronically poor performance.

"1974 wasn't as good as it could have been, but it was still one of our best years ever," noted the Atlantics' general manager. "We are thankful to the people of Toronto for hosting us, and we plan to stay in the city. In this time of rebirth, we feel that a new identity, especially one which is more relevant to our host city, is a key point of our restructuring."

It is not as though the team is leaving much of a legacy behind. In their 13 years of existence, they have never finished better than 4th in their division, and have never seen the post season. Over this time, they have been known as the Pioneers, the Captains, and the Atlantics.

Add to this, now, the Osprey.

"As a native bird all along the shores of the lake our great city is on, we felt the osprey was a fitting symbol of speed, strength, power, and freedom."

The team will be changing its colors to a stark black, gray, and white scheme that matches the bird for which it is renaming itself.

How long will this name stick?

When asked, the Osprey's GM stated, "The management are into the name like I'm into the team: for the long haul."

We can only hope this is the case.

HA HA, nice..... I like you naming them whatever you want. Surprised you stayed in Toronto though. You think about moving them?

Thought about it, but decided the league needed a token Canadian team.

The money's worth more up here, anyway.
