Highlanders exported and ready to roll. Good luck to all.
Wife making me go out to dinner and whatever with her sister and brother in law tonight, so I'll miss the festivities. Ugh. I think I might drink to the edge of passing out then talk them into going to see the new deniro/pacino movie. Make them suffer while I blissfully sleep. 75 in 75!!! |

I have no idea what my team will do this season:
- Will the ageless John MacDonald continue to anchor our staff while only throwing 2 pitches, or will the rest of the league finally figure this out? - Was John Hunt's poor spring an anberration (like John MacDonald had last year) or a harbinger of things to come? - Will our two average catchers reduce the fans' anger over having to let Stanford Jones go in the offseason due to cap issues? - Will our two young promising shortstops step up their game and shore up our defensive infield, or will they wilt in the limelight? - Will reliever Curt Rouse have another great season, or will fans be asking why management didn't take his money and give it to Stanford Jones instead? - Will Boston's allegedly strong farm system start producing ML stars again, or will the franchise have to return to free agency next season for help? Stay tuned...

I'm excited for the season. I think I have a pretty good plan for my pitching and hitting, the only question marks arose after the draft. I got 2 guys who could probably pitch in the #5 slot, but I had signed a guy to fill it already. Do I put a rookie in there to develop? Do I keep the vet there? We'll see. I've got my export in.
On another note, in case you missed in the other thread, I may not be around much this weekend due to Hurricane Ike. I'm in north Houston, and while I think we'll be okay here, I don't expect to have power all weekend. DC please take over the team if I make it to the playoffs and don't check in.

I think I have my roster figured out for the season.. I have a good number of young guys that I plan to give a chance this year in the big leagues such as SP Alonso Hernandez, MR Derek Carpenter, SS Kendrick Hayes and RF Mark Williams. We also have a good number of new faces that have been brought in from other teams via free agency of trades such as 2B Tom Reece, LF Felipe Gonzalez and Pepe Acevedo. Almost 1/3 of our roster will be different from last year which makes this perhaps the biggest one season change that Valdosta has seen to its roster since the mid 1960s.
The new faces means that plenty of other people are out of jobs though and are available for trades to anyone who needs a last minute big pitcher or big bat to plug in the lineup after a horrible spring showing by one of their players. If anyone is interested in any of the following, I can trade them before the season starts so you have time to plug them in for the season: SP George Crawford 12-8 3.56 ERA MR Lee Woodward 30 games, 2-1 3.03 ERA 1B Dave Young 1B Roberto "Tank" Gomez SS Ray Hubbard LF William Davis RF Todd Rogers None of those guys would take a ton to trade for, so I'm not asking for alot other than perhaps George Crawford whom has shown to be a pretty nice, inexpensive starting pitcher during his career so far.. and he is still young enough I could use him in future years. Also, I have some prospects in my organization that I don't see as a fit for my team due to lack of a positional spot for them or not quite my style of player. All of these are on my team's top prospect list currently within game and are available for trade, including my 1st round draft pick from this previous draft, Pedro Silva. If interested in any of these in a trade, let me know. SP Pedro Silva SP Kane Digby MR Theron Walker 1B Ron Howard CF Daniel Beck 2B Marvin Logan RF Darryl Lee RF Yasutake Kuwabara |

I'm "around" kind of....
I am not exactly sure how excited I am about this season. My bullpen is stacked, with 6 guys that are capable of dominating. I have two aces with Barajas and Ortiz, followed by three questionable starters. My offense is solid, but nothing exciting. I see myself finishing in the top half of the CL, but I don't know how high. |

Here's hoping that after last year's surprising finish, that Columbus can find their way to the top. I didn't make too many moves in the offseason, just shoring up the bullpen, and getting a platooning 1B. I tried to get another bat, but I couldn't seem to do so. One of my question marks will be SP Ron Fritz, who is a super-stud prospect. If he can have a good first season, then I won't be too worried about my team. Overall, I don't think that I have enough bats, so I have myself pegged finishing 3rd in the RL.

By the way, Lopez's nickname is 'Three Finger'. Apparently THAT's what makes him a great pitcher.

May 1st.
Baltimore signed Riley Hollis to a whopper deal, but didn't leave space for him on their 25-man roster. Alas, he has to be moved to Triple-A. I dunno if this was a signing to make sure no one else got him or not. Standings to follow. |

DANG IT
Thought I had it for a minute there. Wish we would have made it real close at the end, but I'll take it as a positive move towards a comeback. crap nevermind, I see now that we faded in the last month, oh well

I historically have been incredibly difficult to beat at home.. so if I haven't wrapped up the division by the 9th, it might be Toronto's to win.

48-23 is a .676 winning pct for me at home. That actually is a bit lower than some years, but still about norm for my teams.
