Can't Upload

Uh oh...

This 9.2.2 to 9.2.11 deal really could be an issue. I can't upload my file, and I have to get it up now, because I will be out of touch all day tomorrow until after deadline.

I never touched the patch, knowing we weren't going to upgrade until after the season, but apparently whatever fix Alan applied to get the upgrades working for those teams that did has caused a connection issue.

I will try to export to my computer and email my file to Alan, but that seems the best I can do.

In case no on says so, I want to personally thank those owners in our league who neglected to pay attention to when to upgrade (i.e. not now), thereby putting me (and maybe others) in this situation.

I think you ought to blame Markus for creating a patch that wasn't backwards compatible. I mean, that's the real absurdity in all of this.

Some folks are in other leagues and had to upgrade for those leagues. The world doesn't revolve around FOOL's torrid pace, sadly.

I know what the issue is. I have to send up an emergency "fixed" file for it.

Chief, I got your file in email. I haven't tested it yet, but you should be ok.

For everyone else, new file should be up in a few minutes.

I put a new file up this morning. It should allow teams to export. If someone can download and test it, that would be much appreciated.

I downloaded last night's file and I tried to download this morning or export and couldn't FTP or do anything, actually. I dunno how many others are in the same predicament, but you might need to put a zip file out for them to copy over their current files. But i'll let them speak for themselves.

Good point. The Zip file listed in the first post in this thread: League File/HTML - Front Office Football Central

That should be the up to date zip file if anyone wants to update manually or needs to because of the game.

Well, the "Check for updated League Files" is working fine for me. Will let you know about uploads.

And I'd like to thank Markus for reminding me why 6.5 was the last and only OOTP version I ever bought, and why I waited so long before breaking down and buying this one and getting into a leauge, and why this will probably be the LAST OOTP I ever buy...

Seriously, what is it with text sim developers and their desire not to pay attention to key aspects of delivering software? From FOF's absurd multiplayer / city setup to OOTP's desire to never fix longstanding and key bugs, I am so close to just abandoning this market entirely and focus on other games.

To be fair, the reason there are backwards compatibility issues with this update is they had to change how FTPs behaved for security reasons. They took a step to fix that, but I told them that the fix doesn't really solve their problem since I was able to give them a different manner to hack it the same way.. but anyhows.. I understand why this specific patch is not backwards compatible.

It worked fine for me once I downloaded the zip this morning and unzipped everything. So long as a person didn't update with last night's file, they ought to be fine with loading things as normal.

Ok thanks guys for the confirmation. Sorry for all of the hassles, dealing with it last night really sucked the fun out of the playoffs for me and I am sure that was probably noticeable in the write-ups.

I'm sure we will run into more problems with the new patch once we upgrade (since I've seen various reports of people with issues), but at this point it seems like we can't stay back. I don't think I can handle dealing with that every sim night.

For people in multiple leagues who have not upgraded yet but will be forced to for this league, I recommend just pulling the .exe-only zip file from the OOTP site, and keep both the old and new executables in your folder. You can choose which to run depending on which league you are in. Not the best thing in the world, but that is what happens with non-backwards compatible patches.

I had the connection issue too, and am loading the league file now. Will the league be running on the latest patch now?

Tonight's exports will be imported with the old patch. I'll then upgrade to the new version tonight and the file I post tonight will be the new patch. So those owners who haven't upgraded yet will need to do so after tonight's sim.

So I've got two machines, my desktop with the old, and laptop with the new. I loaded the league file on the laptop, but from what I undestand, I shouldn't do anything with the patched game, but only upload from my pre-patched game? This patch really has screwed up more leagues than just this one. I have another league with the same connection issues.

Yeah, if you can upload with the old version, that would make it easiest on me.

Tonight won't be as bad for me because I'll do the upgrade mid-sim and be able to get files from people who upload using the new version as well, but I am sure I'll find 5 new things that break tonight with the new patch.

BOTTOM LINE? If this is one's only league, we don't have to and should not patch yet?

I think I am confusing everyone.

Everyone just get your uploads in. I'll figure out how to get them all to work correctly.

After tonight's sim everyone will need to upgrade to 9.2.11 before they download the file I post after the sim.

Not sure what issues you would have with 9.2.0

better off upgrading it to 9.2.2 or just using your 9.2.11 one

I'll get the destop to 9.2.2 and upload. Not alot to offer as far as extensions go. My ML players realize we suck, and don't want to stay with us anyway!

9.2.11 is all that's there. It's auto-patched to that, so I can upload that one only now.. is that OK? If so, I can have it in a few minutes..

I'll possibly skip uploading tonight. I have no freakin' clue what my file will be like after I grab from the site. If I have the latest patch and grab the file that you posted, is it gonna work?

Okay I'm confused. I see no official announcement of 9.2.3, but when I download the .exe only from Downloads thats what I got, 9.2.3, the supposed final version. I think thats what Alan is on and the rest of us need to be on. I know my game now reports me being on 9.2.3

I hate patches at times like these.

Oh I'm ready, there should be an export up there from me. Whether it works or not, I have no clue. Let me know and I'll move over to my desktop and try there, its still on the last version.

I don't even know what 9.2.3 is!

I know of a 9.2.7 that was never announced, and a 9.2.10 beta though!

Well, thats what my game claims to be, and it makes sense from a programming dev standpoint for an official release number. Who knows though.

Missing exports: Hartford, Napa Valley, Rio Grande, Wyoming

Successful exports in 9.2.2: Ann Arbor, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Brooklyn, Colorado, New York

Unsuccessful exports in 9.2.2 (due to being different version): Columbus, San Diego, St. Louis, Toronto

I will work on getting those last four exports in next.

My favorite part of this is that the main pages, download pages, etc, all still show 9.2.2. Gotta love this company...

Thanks for the link Alan, maybe now I can patch.

i don't understand why this got so confusing. everyone should've updated the patch and it should be fine.

this doesn't make any sense. I'm not having problems in any of my other leagues.

Most of the problems came from me having to do special things to get exports to take for both sets of owners (Those that upgraded early and those still on the old patch). The process I used to do that was causing the ftp account information to get all horked up each time.

So the original file I put up last night had an ftp account info that was invalid and I had to do the new file. Which is why I asked Ramz which file he was using.

Anyone who manually downloads the current file from the HTML/File link and manually installs it should be fine I believe as I've tested that several places now.

That should fix things for you this time around. You shouldn't have to do this on future days, the upgrade just caused issues this time around.

Actually more correctly put.. it was my efforts to make sure I got everyone's exports in and didn't just deny exports for being the wrong version that caused the hassles. But I still think that was the right choice on my part
