NCAA Women's Volleyball on ESPN 2

College Women's Volleyball on ESPN2 right now. Penn State hasn't lost a set a all year and they're down to Nebraska right now. The tournament being played? In Omaha. Uh yeah, it's just a matter of time, that said, Penn State is up 2 sets to 0 in the semi-final match against the Huskers. Pretty exciting, nonetheless.

From the NY Times.

Quote:
The Penn State women’s team, the top-seeded defending champion, is 36-0 and has not lost a set all season, but it needs two more victories for the national title, starting with Thursday night’s semifinal against No. 4 Nebraska (31-2). The other semifinal in Omaha matches No. 2 Stanford (30-3), the 2007 national runner-up, against No. 3 Texas (29-3). The Lions have won 109 consecutive sets, breaking the 105-set streak set by Florida in 2003. Penn State has also won 62 consecutive matches, another N.C.A.A. record.

Huskers fans are cheering like it's a football game, though. Gotta give' em that. Penn State is a serious club though. They don't joke around and it's obviously why they're the best team in the country.

Nebraska won the set, first time Penn State has lost one all year. But you knew once ESPN got their hands on it and hyped it, that it was bound to happen. That said, playing a national semi-final in a "neutral" site that turns out to be the other team's home probably doesn't help. We'll see if they pull it out in the end.

Match tied two sets apiece. Nebraska is getting a huge boost being at home.

Apparently Nebraska last lost in the state of Nebraska in 2004.

Penn State hasn't lost this year. Seems fitting this one is in the 5th set.

Well Penn State won it in the 5th set. Pretty clutch gig, they could've wilted under pressure and chose not to.

Penn State ended up winning the National Title today; beating Stanford 3-0.

Those women were dominant this year and they weren't going to be denied. Undefeated and all.

I have a coworker friend who played for PSU's women's team a few years back, and she got me rooting for them. Glad to see them win.
