Yeah, that looks pretty awful. Not Starship Troopers bad but definitely been-there-done-that bad. Disappointing that's the approach they took.

If this ends up being anywhere near Starship Troopers level good I'll be very surprised.
Interpret that however you like. |

Starship Troopers is awesome. An awesome, awesome movie. It knew exactly what it was.
This will not be anywhere near as good and has no clue what it is.

What's with the acrobatics? This just looks bad.

Just saw the preview during the superbowl for this movie.. That preview didn't look too bad to me. Not award winning, but something I'd likely go see thanks to my watching GI Joe as a kid.
Of course past history has shown that I am far more forgiving to movies then most people on this board, so I might not be the best "critic" to judge a movie or preview |

+1 Especially since I was excited about the Transformers movie but had very little faith that they could pull off anything good and, well, I loved it. I'm definitely willing to give this a good chance. |

nah - i agree. i think people may be setting expectations too high for this movie. let's remember the original cartoon was pretty cheese-heavy, so it looks fine to me |

I sense I'll go watch it like I went and saw Transformers and be disappointed.

Liked Transformers for what it was. Probably will like the 2nd Transformers and the Joe movie for what they are.

I'm looking forward to the Star Trek thing. GI Joe looked cool, too.

I'm pumped about GI Joe -- it might be lame, but I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it.
Ditto Transformers 2. |

Oddly enough, I liked what I saw in the trailer. I'm a GI Joe fan from the 80s, so while I'm a little ticked about this all black uniform bit, everything else looked pretty out there GI Joe. I'd like to see some Destro in his metal head though. He better not go through the whole dang thing reminding me of Dr. Who.

I loved Transformers. We're talking about movies made after cartoons that were made specifically to sell children's toys back in the 80's. It's not like there's any deep meaning here that they're going to somehow "ruin" and make shallow with a CGI-heavy action flick. These old Saturday morning cartoons are PERFECT for this sort of treatment. All we need is a Voltron movie, and then I can complete my time machine and go back and tell my 8 year old self how awesome the future will be. |

If you have any expectations for a GI Joe movie and you come away from the movie disappointed, then it's you. Not the movie.

I thought the preview looked bad. Nobody's expecting Shakespeare out of the Joes. But the CGI/Matrix action sequences seem like they just took "Modern Action MOvie" and dressed it in GI Joe outfits. The Joes I know didn't do anything more acrobatic than hit the dirt. I mean they couldn't even aim their guns, who needs to do Matrix moves? It seems to me they should have gone the "each guy has a cool ability" and "explosions" route.

I expect the movie to be terrible and a disappointment. Having said that, I can't wait to see it. The fact that everyone is dressed like snakeeyes kills me. The lame CGI leap by snakeeyes at the end of the trailer is awful. The souped up robots (shouldn't they look like ). I am intrigued by the casting of Cobra Commander. I am appalled by the inclusion of Marlon Wayans. The Baroness and Scarlett look smokin'.
I'll be there opening weekend, and I don't go to many movies.

GI Joe, for me, will be somewhere around where I rated Transformers. Which was only slightly higher than Meet the Deedles.

I want to see G.I. Joe, the preview looked decent to me at the worst. Like Arles said above though, I am pretty forgiving with movies as well it seems. My daughter asked me what it was and I told her it was my favorite cartoon and toy until I was about her age.
As for Star Trek, I couldn't help but think it should be called "Star Trek: The Young and More Attractive Years."

I might die if there was a Voltron movie. Or if they ever made a goddamn Thundercats movie! But yeah I agree with what you said. These were shallow cartoons in the 80's, so I don't know why people are expecting the movies to be less than shallow. Still think they'll do fine. Haha very true. Which is why probably the major reason why I'm torn on it. Sure I'll go see it opening day and all, but really...I don't know. I might feel "dirty" doing it. |
