50 years since "The Day the Music Died"
It was a little after 1am on Feb. 3, 1959 that the plane carrying Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper crashed shortly after take off.

Crazy stuff. I can't believe it's been that long. Anyone here old enough to remember the day?

I think Bucc was celebrating his 50th birthday just before this happened.

I wonder how rock and roll would be different if Buddy Holly hadn't died. He has been credited with creating the structure of just about every band that has followed (singer, lead guitar, bass, drums), and was also cited as a main influence by most artists in the 60s. Couple in the fact that he only recorded for about 18 months, that just goes to show there was still a lot left for him to offer.

I'm glad someone noticed. My status message on facebook has made reference to it all day, and no one has made a peep.
I went to a local tribute show on Saturday night. It was mostly guys in their 50s+ trying to feel young.
