Need computer Help !!!!!

getting a strange error message and can't load my used profile.

It crates a temp profile for me and I can create additional profiles, so I can get online, etc... I just can get my saved stuff, pics, documents, bookmarks, etc... so that is very annoying.

I tried doing a system restore and it tells me it can't restore to that point.

Here is the exact message.

Quote:
Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

DETAIL - An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed unrecoverably. The registry could not read in, or write out, or flush, one of the files that contain the system's image of the registry.

any advice or suggestions would be good.

I read on a tech forum someone suggested creating a new profile and copying the old one to it, would that work and if so how do I do it?

logon as the administrator or an account with admin rights and then right click on My Computer, click on advanced, and then click on "settings" under user profiles.

From there you can copy your profile, etc..

Another way is to double click on my computer and then navigate to your old profile and copy your desktop, favorites, and my documents to the same spot inside your new profile.

This is usually the path: C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR PROFILE

Also, you might want to run a hard drive test as profiles don't usually just corrupt themselves - just to be sure.
