College Football Recruiting (2010 Class) Thread - UCLA vs UW ITT

Yes -- It is that time.

OSU and ND both get two 5* potential kids on NSD for 2010.

LB/DE Chris Martin to ND
OT Andrew Norwell to OSU

Texas will probably have a full class in a week, whenever their first Junior Day is.

And I know once again the #1 player hasn't committed in 2009, but 2010 is already off to a quick start.

Arkansas got a 2011 commitment today WR Demetrius Dean of Fayetteville, AR.

Also we do have a 2010 commit, OL Cam Feldt. Not much info from me on either of them, obviously not star-rated yet.

He'll have a great time playing for whoever the coach is at Arkansas in 2011.

RB Lache Seatrunk, imo, has to be the #1 player in the Nation when the initial 2010 rankings come out. This kid is such a monster it is sick. Seems like a Texas/USC/LSU battle, but whoever gets him is getting such a stud.

Highly regarded running backs Dillon Baxter and D.J. Morgan both verbally committed months ago to USC.

Why you got a spare 10 mill for the buyout

Michigan has two commits for 2010, both WR:

WR Ricardo Miller will probably be a top 50 player when all is said and done. Already has offers from Bama, LSU, Florida, Miami, Stanford and Tennessee, but he is as solid as it comes.

WR Jeremy Jackson is also pretty solid, as his dad Fred is our current RB coach. He has early offers from LSU, Florida and Notre Dame.

This is shaping up as UM's best class ever because a lot of top 250 watch kids are listing UM highly, especially from FLorida.

Rutgers has had a 2010 verbal for a few months now, the top OL in NJ, Betim Bujari. He's on the Rivals 250 watchlist as well as the ESPN 150 watchlist.

This is considered a loaded year in NJ after a relative down year in 2009. We didn't do nearly as well in the state as we have in past years, thanks to some decommits after the bad start, so we'll need to pick that back up.

If UCLA can land Malcolm Jones, I will be a happy guy. The West is loaded with top RB's this year

The UW got a verbal commitment from FB Zach Fogerson, brother of current Husky S Johri Fogerson, back in September.

He's likely going to be considered one of, if not the top FB prospects on the West Coast for 2010. Depending on his Senior season and how he grows, this staff may also consider playing him at LB.

QB prospect Jake Heaps from Skyline H.S. (WA) is a strong possibility to be the top QB prospect in the country for the 2010 class, and has said he'd like to make his commitment this summer before his final season in H.S. He's considering 10-11 schools right now, but the current smart money is on Washington and BYU, with North Carolina considered a dark horse. If Sarkisian can get a commitment from Heaps, that will go a long way towards kick-starting the UW's 2010 class and should set a very good precedent for what is expected to be a large and very good crop of prospects in the state of Washington next year.

Minnesota started off their 2010 class in January (though after adding their first commit for 2011) when MLB Konrad Zagzebski, who was regarded as the top junior in Wisconsin last season, committed the day he recieved an offer from the Gophers.

I've seen him play as well.

HE'S KING OF THE DOUBLE WING.

Last year, his new retard of a coach tried to make him a slot receiver in a spread set. He got rid of that concept really quick.

Heh, Nick Montana was in Knoxville last weekend looking around UT, according to govols.com

"Montana isn’t the only hope at quarterback.

Jake Heaps from Skyline High in Sammamish, Wash., is scheduled to visit Knoxville later this month. The 6-2, 180-pound Heaps has several scholarship offers from across the nation."

Bug, which of the RB's are UCLA going after?

Seems like SC is real high on Seastrunk from TX and the two kids who have already committed, with possibly McConico from Compton HS as a backup if Seastrunk stays in state...

Malcom Jones is pissed at the way his brother's redshirt was burned (can't blame him) so he's not coming to SC, He'd be a real nice pickup for you guys. He might be the best all-around back of the lot. Anyone else getting a lot of early play?

Don't forget Anthony Barr to ND also, the RB class on the west coast is sick (along with the OL class)

You can't go wrong with Barr or Jones, I think UCLA lands Jones and they have a good shot at Barr. It won't hurt that Rick will be able to watch every game of his

I hope that UCLA can land Pullard Hayes

That'd be tomorrow.

They are hosting 18 recruits. Last year they got 7 commits after the first junior day, and all ended up signing this past Wednesday.

I'm not going to rule anyone out at this point, but I think beyond UW and BYU the next highest contenders are North Carolina and UCLA. We should know more in a few months - Heaps is scheduled to travel around the country to do a number of unofficial visits with the teams still on his list (he wants to commit before this Fall).

ND also has a 5* OT in Christian Lombard from Illinois, and a lesser-rated local WR in Daniel Smith from South Bend. Other than an elite QB, the biggest needs are DE and S, although honestly every defensive position is low on numbers from the current underclassmen.

Michigan adds it's 3rd WR of 2010 with Ohio Rivals 250 to watch Jerald Robinson. He's 6'2, 175, giving UM three WR's over 6'2" now in 2010.

J Robinson was actually offered as an athlete by UM. He is also a very good safety, so there is a decent chance he comes in at that position. Really depends on how the rest of this class fills out. Either way, he is a very solid pickup.

WR John Harris

There were 18 players hosted this past weekend. The next Junior Day is scheduled for Feb. 28th.

Regardless, Henderson, Barr, Chance Carter and Jake Heaps are the 4 biggest ND targets right now from what I hear.

I know Notre Dame is going strong after him, but locally the word has been that USC has been the team to beat for Henderson.

I did like reading one article about Henderson by the Notre Dame rivals site where the writer brought up the players from Cretin-Derham Hall, Henderson's school, that have gone to Notre Dame and the possibility of Seantrel following them. Henderson's response was that he didn't really know most of them, but was friends with Matt Carufel who left after his sophomore year and will be starting for Minnesota next year.

I don't think ND has a shot at Heaps. UW/BYU as people have said. Plus, ND already has Crist, who I think will be better then Claussen.

I'm glad you all got Hopkins early. Word is that Texas won't take more than 1, possibly 2 OL and that opens the chance for USC to get a few Texas OL that they need/want.

Surely he must have known Michael Floyd at least?

As for the rest, do I really need to go back and pull out all the quotes about how Te'o had eliminated ND from his choices and was down to USC and/or BYU? It's still February.

Not from what I've heard - he grew up a big-time Husky fan. The feeling from UW insiders that have talked with him and his family is that he's the UW's to lose - if Sarkisian can convince Jake that he's the right guy to develop him as a pro QB and has the chops to turn the UW program around, he'll be a Husky. If not, BYU is the primary 2nd choice, with North Carolina a dark horse. He also respects the coaching abilities of Norm Chow, so UCLA has a shot.

Maybe 'know' wasn't the best wording, but here's what he said,

"I was friends with Matt Carufel, but the other guys I didn't have close relationships with. I knew Ryan Harris here and there," Henderson said. "Matt, his experience wasn't that good for him down there. He transferred, so he probably wouldn't recommend me to go down there because his experience wasn't so good."

By no means do I think this means he won't consider Notre Dame, I think they have a pretty good chance at him. He may not feel the pull of the pipeline his school has been to Notre Dame in the past.

Huffman is credible, but he's not as connected to the Heaps family as Chris Fetters and Scott Eklund are. Now, maybe they are unable to see the situation objectively since they are at heart Husky fans, but they feel he's Sarkisian's to lose.

It's also worth noting that the situation between the UW and Heaps has improved a great deal since Ty was fired - he was not winning them over.

Nick Montana (son of Joe) is making an official trip to Austin next Wednesday and Thursday. After seeing what happened to the last Longhorn QB with a QB dad who won a Super Bowl, I'm surprised he's even making a visit.

WVU gets a commitment from OT/DT Quinton Spain who's the #10 rated player in Virginia according to VirginiaPreps. Nice to see us land a kid with his size (6'6" 330lbs) and potential as Rod always complained that we couldn't land lineman like this.

LSU has/had the lead for him. Born and somewhat raised in Louisiana, was an LSU fan (wore LSU clothing during his junior year) and he is surrounded by more LSU people in Temple than one might think.

That being said, LSU lead for Vince Young during Vince Young's junior year, and by the begining of VY's senior year in HS he was the biggest Longhorn you could find. Who knows, but I like our chances with him as much as I can like the chances with any Texas kid that Texas will really wants.

He was at Tennessee a week or two back. One of his coaches is Casey Clausen.
