RIP: Paul Harvey
Breaking news that he just passed away. One of the most recognizable voices on the radio.

I try to make it a point to leave work by 4:30 so I can listen to Rest of the Story. They had his nasally son on last week but the week before, I heard Paul for the last time. |

No disrespect to the fallen, but his son is all I've heard for the last 3-4 years. I was certain he had passed long ago. RIP. |

Man
Everyone knew this was coming but that doesn't really reduce the realization that one of the most successful & enduring icons of an entire industry has been stilled. Oddly, it was exactly one year ago today that he took his official leave of absence from ABC Radio. The official statements btw Paul Harvey was one of the most gifted and beloved broadcasters in our nation’s history. As he delivered the news each day with his own unique style and commentary, his voice became a trusted friend in American households. His career in radio spanned more than seven decades, during which time countless millions of listeners were both informed and entertained by his “News & Comment” and “Rest of the Story” features. Even after the passing of his loving wife Angel in May 2008, Paul would not slip quietly into retirement as he continued to take the microphone and reach out to his audience. We will miss our dear friend tremendously and are grateful for the many years we were so fortunate to have known him. Our thoughts and prayers are now with his son Paul Jr. and the rest of the Harvey family. Jim Robinson President, ABC Radio Networks My father and mother created from thin air what one day became radio and television news. So in the past year, an industry has lost its godparents and today millions have lost a friend. Paul Harvey Jr. FWIW, while Paul, Jr.'s remarks may be read as those of a proud son, there's a ton of truth in them. "Angel" nee Lynne Harvey was indeed a legend in her own right. Not only did she work on virtually every facet of her husband's programs, she did so brilliantly. First producer ever inducted into the radio Hall of Fame, first woman to ever fully produce a nightly TV news show (for CBS), the pioneer of the now familiar TV talk show format. To lose them both in a nine month span is really a huge chunk of the history of radio & TV in a short time.

Yeah, saw this today. Knew it had to happen sometime of course, but I have heard him for so long now--he was already an icon when I started listening to radio--it became one of those, "he's always gonna be there doing this" sorta things.
