Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
Some big shoes to fill.. (for me atleast)
Nice to see Conan help out in the opening skit.

Is it just me, or does he tend to mumble / speak too fast? I get this impression that he's got this weird lisp whenever he talks.

I think it's the combination of being unable to not stare directly into the teleprompter while also not being able to get through a sentence without laughing at his own jokes.

I think Fallon is funny but I can't imagine this gig will work for him. He needs to stick to supporting actor/SNL-type skit shows.

I'm not sure how this whole experiment is going to turn out, but Fallon is light-years ahead of where Conan was when he took over the show.
That being said, who knows if Fallon has the same upside potential...can someone check his player card? |

I'm with Todd. Jimmy has years behind the camera, where people forgot Conan was just a writer before he took over.
Jimmy will grow into this and I don't watch late night at all. But...I think he'll be fine. I mean, it's late night, not rocket science.

I don't like Fallon but he'll be successful. I don't find him funny but he is a charming guy and will be good with his guests.

I caught part of his interview with DeNiro and had to turn it off. It wasn't bad... just banal.

I just think it's going to take some time for him to find his grove. It took Conan a while.

Watching it now. So far not bad, some nice improve by Fallon. You can tell he is VERY nervous, and rightfully so IMO.
The opening Conan skit was funny. I was really surprised to see The Roots are the house band, I had no idea. |

Caught this last night. I agree, he looked very nervous, his forehead was covered in sweat throughout the show. Obviously, he'll never top Conan, but I think once he finds his grove and develops his own style, he'll be just fine, seems to have the right kind of makeup for this gig.

I kind of like Fallon and think some of his SNL skits were pretty funny (Nick Burns was pretty strong), but I really think he and Horatio Sanz were kind of damaging to SNL because they both broke character and laughed at their own stuff so often. Other than his songs, I always felt like he was a pretty big tagalong on Weekend Update and couldn't carry his weight alongside Tina Fey. It was barely tolerable watching him laugh at his own jokes when he was ~25 and could pull off immature. Hopefully, he won't still be pulling that stuff when he is 35.

I am watching it on hulu.com right now. The opening monologue was that great, but then it got good at the end with Slow Jammin' the News. Not the most original thing I guess, but still funny and the Roots make it pretty good.

I thought the show was just awful. The opening wasn't funny, the video of housewives wasn't funny, the game wasn't funny, and the interviews were pretty boring. I know it's his first show, but that effort won't cut it.

As it turns out, I'm watching the re-run of last night's show now and Justin Timberlake pretty much showed up him in his own show. Timberlake of course has more TV background than Fallon, I guess..but he probably could host this in his sleep...that's pretty funny.

Justin Timberlake has been on TV dating back to the Mickey Mouse club. Jimmy Fallon did his first standup at a local club around the same time, so Justin has been in show business a lot longer. I'm not the only one that noticed: Quote:
Just watch his interview. He was basically saving Jimmy from being even more embarrassing than he otherwise would've been. I mean, you can tell they're friends...and Justin was just helping out, but...I mean, he basically started hosting for the time he was there. Lots of people have failed at this hosting a show thing...it's not like late night is exactly territory for the faint of heart. He'll have to work into it, but man... |

I watched the interview, just because someone was on TV sooner doesn't mean they have more experience. I am pretty sure years on SNL trump the Mickey Mouse club.
It's also alot easier to be relaxed when you are the guest as opposed to the one everyone is watching. Thats not to say JT wasn't great, because he was. But to say he has more TV experience then Fallon is just crazy. |

I'm watching the second show right now. I don't mind Fallon..I think he could get into a groove at some point (although I think the writers aren't doing him any favors).
The funniest part of tonights episode is the constant screw ups by everybody. Mayor Bloomberg completely stumbled over an actually decent line about Fallons De Niro interview, and the crew couldn't get the right pictures up during the green screen bit with Bloomberg. Conan would have called out his crew at that point (in good humor..at least on camera), but Fallon was ready to just abandon the bit to avoid any further awkwardness with the mayor. The Roots are okay so far...I think they're also feeling out the situation, and will improve with time. Luckily, he's got Tina Fey on now. She should be able to either do the heavy lifting, or make Fallon comfortable enough to be funny, much like Timberlake last night. I'll be tuning in periodically, just to see if it gets better, a la Conan.

For those who don't watch or have given up on SNL in the past 4-5 years, Timberlake has surprisingly proven to be one of the best guests in the show's history. Not a fan of his music, but I've got a much more favorable opinion of him after seeing some of his sketches on SNL.

Timberlake would be a welcome addition to the SNL case, in my opinion. He is definitely a talented and funny guy.

Heard Cameron Diaz was going to be on last night so I DVRed the episode. Had a bout of insomnia last night, even got out of bed and played my NCAA 09 EBFL game, and then around 2am I figured I would give the show a shot.
This show cures insomnia. Thanks Jimmy! |

I think Fallon has become excellent on the Late Night show. He really found his groove. I also think Ferguson is excellent as well. I wonder how alone I am in this.

I really didn't think I'd like Fallon on Late Night, but I have to admit he's basically become the Jim Rice to Letterman's Ted Williams and Conan's Carl Yastrzemski.

After Fallon got comfortable, the show got a lot better. He has a good rapport with Higgins or whatever his sidekick guys name is, and they have very unique segments, IMO. The games he plays with guests are an excellent idea, The Roots as a house band is easily the best house band on any late night show.. Theres a lot to like, honestly. He comes off as a pretty genuine dude and has settled in nicely. He isn't going to appeal to everyone, but he does his demographic well.

Is there any way to make the Fallon clip work on an iPhone/iPad. All this Hulu plus only for mobile sucks. And my wifi only iPad shouldn't even be considered a mobile device...it makes it inferior to a laptop.

I haven't followed the late night stuff for a while but I think Seth Myers has been underrated as SNL head writer, the Myers years have been vastly superior to the Tina Fey SNL years, IMO. I'm not totally sold on him as a performer, but he's great at playing off of other funny people, so hopefully he has a sidekick, or a lot of recurring characters.

I think it is interesting that they are moving the Tonight Show to NYC. I imagine there are enough guests to go around, but they will be in direct competition with Letterman now. I would assume that would be good news for Kimmel and Conan as the only two left in Hollywood.

Caught Jimmy Fallon tonight. It ended with a group singing Amazing Grace. It was ... powerful.
I do enjoy him and his skits he does with guests. |
