Who will win this year's Commissioner Award?

Nick McCain (Ann Arbor) received national headlines with his flirtation with .400 this season, but he ended up just short with a .391 average. Will he also end up just short in the running for this year's Commissioner Award which is handed out to the over all most valuable player?

McCain might receive some competition from Young-keun Yi (Plano) who hit only .319 this year, but had a well rounded games, contributing with Home Runs, Doubles, Runs Scored and Runs Batted In for the Engineers.

Jesus Romero (Chico) also has to be a strong contender for the award, with a 21-5 record and an amazing 0.83 WHIP, doing his part to help Chico win the Republic League this year.

Bryan Lamb (Apex) led the Continental League this season in many different categories, including 20 wins this season. Detractors however point to his 41 games started as an explanation for some of his stats this season.

Daniel Gil (Boston) was the pop inn the Settlers line up this season, smashing an amazing 53 home runs. The young Costa Rican won three batter of the month awards on his way to a 1.066 OPS this season.

Kirby Bates (Baltimore) matched Gil homer for homer this season, but topped him in runs batted in, with an incredible 156 this season. Bates helped fuel the Baltimore lineup that was first in the Continental League in Runs scored this season.

2011 final Power Rankings

The New York Heroes caught up to Chico in the final week of the season to end in a virtual tie atop the FOOL power rankings for the season. The two teams will get to square off in the postseason to determine which team makes it to the FOOL Classic. Chico won the regular season head to head matchup vs the Heroes, just barely edging them out 17-16.

Baltimore ended up a clear third place in the power rankings, but on top of the Continental League. The Charm had a league worst -5 difference from their Pythagorean Record this season.

2012 Free Agent Arms Race

For teams looking to gain some pitching help for the 2012 season, there currently remain a number of quality pitchers that might end up on the open market next season.

Morgan Weighill (Baltimore) currently looks to be the prized free agent target for the upcoming offseason if his contract is not extended before the year is done. Weighill was a key member of the Baltimore staff this season, with a 19-13 record and a 3.17 ERA. Teams may however be scared away by his age, as he turns 32 years old tommorrow. It also is rumored that he may be seeking close to a 5 year $50 million contract to sign!

Kane Weighell (Hartford) likely will make sure that teams do not only spend on pitching in the offseason. The secondbaseman at age 28 led the Harpooners in batting this season with a .292 average. He also is one of the best fielders in the league and a yearly candidate for the Gold Glove award.
