FOOL 2025 Offseason

I'll be running this in about 30 minutes. Need to take out the trash and drop my daughter off at day care first.

Monday, November 11th, 2024: FOOL News: Free Agents File
Free agency is upon us.

Teams, players and pundits who follow Front Office Offseason League will be thrust headlong into a whirlpool of intrigue and uncertainty. The free agent signing period will continue throughout the off-season as some clubs will go a long way toward sealing up a championship -- or a spot in the cellar.

The magic, the unpredictability of hot stove baseball, is fascinating to the fan; particularly the fan whose team comes out on top!

This year's list of free agents is highlighted by these players:

1. Ernesto Vásquez, 29 year-old first baseman
2. Charlie Kadow, 33 year-old right fielder
3. Lorne Ridell, 29 year-old right fielder
4. Daniel Gil, 38 year-old left fielder
5. Ryan Hall, 37 year-old starting pitcher
6. Marty Harrington, 36 year-old shortstop
7. Erik Bowden, 37 year-old left fielder
8. Yoritomo Yamasaki, 36 year-old starting pitcher
9. Tomás Gallegos, 34 year-old starting pitcher
10. Maurice Beaudin, 28 year-old catcher

Too bad I didn't get Mejia, but I bring back Sosa, and have a little room to play with financially for this market. Hopefully I can get some power.

Happy with the draft. Got three hitters who all look like starters (and all good ones, too), and my fourth pick was a MR who looks like he will be pretty good, too. Even the fifth pick is a MR who does not look like a throwaway, although he's not likely to ever be more than a fringe reliever if he were to ever make the big squad.

Wait. Won't Mejia be a FA again with only a 1 year contract?

Lol, I'm pretty sure he will. If Kelly is the guy I'm thinking of I think I had him in the top three on my board so I'm excited to get him at 8 or whenever I picked.

Losing Daniel Gil to FA because he still wants $12mil+ at age 39 while I have lots of other guys to pay is almost enough to have me drop FOOL and concentrate on FOOL-X where I could get a draft pick for him walking.

Almost.

A player signed before the end of the playoffs is only through the current year. A player signed once the offseason begins (post-playoffs) is for the next season.

The new file is up! HTML and player development will finish in probably about an hour or so.

**NOTE** Tomorrow's Saturday morning sim is expected to run at the normal 7am ET time. I am out of town however, and depending on hotel internet it might be delayed until Sunday afternoon. Deadline is still the normal 7am ET time tomorrow morning with the expectation that it will run as normal.**

Very sorry to see Daniel Gil move on. We just could not quite afford him. We'll feel better about this if he pulls a Yufi Jen and hits the wall this year, but we really wanted him to retire a Settler.

We have huge holes in the outfield (in addition to our ongoing pitching struggles) so I'm expecting a really bad year.

Obviously, I can't offer a finish for Mr. Gil in a Settler uniform, but believe me when I say I am bringing him in with the utmost respect toward his career. I am hoping he can help Hammersmith win a championship this year, adding much needed power to our lineup.

The third year is a mutual option, so if he falls off badly, I would probably cut him and take the money hit for a year. But it might then be an option for me to just ship him back to you for some cheap exchange.

I don't know, we can play it by ear.

I am actually hoping he'll maintain and allow me to get two power number years from him before he falls off.

I am hoping that he continues for the next 2-3 years with great power numbers in his early 40s due to the drug injections he is taking... err I mean the rigorous workout regime that he undertakes.

All joking aside, I would love to see a new home run champ live and in person. Tanaka was something special to watch, but Bobby Barrett and Felipe Aguilera just felt artificial. Gil taking the new crown would be outstanding!

He is only 44 home runs away from #1 all time, and I honestly don't really see signs that he is about to drop off the face of the earth.

I mean he has had small aging set in, but he hasn't had the complete fall off the face of the earth type of drop off that you normally see by now. I think it is reasonable to expect at least 20-30 HR from him with hope of even close to 40. I don't see the 44 HR that he is away from the all time lead that out of reach..

I for one would love to see him get it..

The difference is Romero started in the majors at the age of 19. Gil didn't start until 25 years old. Romero is only 33 years old right now, so he realistically could be playing for another 3-5 seasons. Or he could just fall apart this season.

I just know that the two of them have been trading batting news (Romero for all-around hitting, Gil for power numbers) for what seems like forever now...

The new file is up. I'm in a hotel room so can't run HTML today. I'll have to run that tomorrow afternoon when I get home.

Someone please verify that the file went up correctly. This internet connection is horrible so I need to know if I need to repost the file.

The 2025 Regular Season will run Monday night 9pm ET! I hope everyone has a good weekend!

Hmm, weird, Montreal. It worked for me no problem, like bz. Hopefully it will work for you soon.
