The FOFC Mole Season 2: OFFICIAL GAME THREAD
Welcome to Season 2 of the FOFC Mole.
This thread is the official gameplay thread. In our first season, we had lots of observers watching as the game progressed. This is fantastic and encouraged, of course. However, we ask that you don't do anything to interfere with the actual gameplay (help solve puzzles, point out clues, that sort of thing). The overall game requires strict segregation of observers and players. Nothing wrong with posting in the thread as an observer as long as you aren't interfering with the game itself. With that out of the way: A quick introduction for those new to The Mole as a game: This is an individual game. You are playing for yourself. However, many of the things you will be asked to do will require some teamwork to accomplish. You may even be explicitly split into teams for some tasks. This is expected, but never lose sight of the fact that you are playing as an individual in this game. Your goal is to be the last real player standing. Eight players start the game, but only seven of you are real players. One player has been secretly selected to be the mole. The mole's identity is the key to the whole game. In order to survive to the end, you need to do the best job of observing and identifying the mole. Finger the wrong person and you could very likely be "executed." After every 2 to 3 missions (usually two), there is an execution. An execution is simply the elimination of one player from the game. The player to be eliminated is determined by a questionairre about the identity of the mole. Answer two many questions wrong about who the mole is and what they have been up to and you run the risk of being the player that is eliminated. The questionairre, or, as it is commonly referred to, "the quiz," is usually 10 questions, but could be any number. The player that gets the least number correct on the quiz is executed and leaves the game immediately and permanently. Needless to say, the quizzes and executions provide a good deal of the drama for the game. The game itself consists of a number of "missions," which are simply tasks you have to complete as a team or individuals to earn money for the "group pot." The last player standing at the end of the game wins the total amount won up to the point. So, it is to everyone's (except the mole's!) benefit to succeed in the missions. However, the mole is there to secretly sabotage the missions. The mole's job is to lead you astray and prevent you from earning that money for the group pot. The mole must do that and stay undercover. The best mole will sabotage as many missions as possible while having no one figure out it is them doing it. So, in summary, your job as a player in the mole is to complete each task successfully to earn money for the group, identify who the saboteur amongst you is, answer questions about them on the quiz correctly to survive each execution, and be the last player remaining to collect the group pot. For historical purposes, our Season 1 winner and mole were: Thomkal, who won $325,650 as the last player standing in season 1 path12, who was the mole in our first season and remained largely undetected the whole season. Before we begin, I'd like for each player in the game to check-in by posting in this thread. Below is the roster of players: samifan24 BrianD claphamsa path12 hoopsguy MIJB#19 Poli Butter of 69 As soon as all 8 have checked in, the game will begin. If someone does not check-in in a reasonable amount of time, I will try to replace them on the roster with a new player. If that person was selected as the mole, the new player would inherit that responsibility. Let's do this thing! |

This should be fun. I believe BrianD, path12 and I are the only holdovers from the first season.

As a former participant, I'll be watching. I'll play again when it's time for "FOFC Mole All-Stars" -- in the meantime, my (not serious) advice is that the first person to completely forget about the game and stop playing is the mole.

Of course that could mean: "I don't believe I am the mole -- I know I am." We need a soothsayer.

I'll be happy to just follow along this time, not spending every waking moment how to make it look like I'm the Mole when I'm not.

The FOFC Mole Season 2:
WARNING! As those that saw mission 1 from last season can attest, PLEASE READ INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY. Breaking a rule can end a mission immediately in some cases! Mission #1: Drawn and Quartered Our first mission this season is a return of a mission from season one. It is a simple, appealing, and quick mission designed to get things moving and get everyone involved. Mission objective: --correctly identify an object drawn by the other team to win money for the group pot. Mission instructions: 1. Divide yourselves into two teams of four players each. Do this by stating in the thread "team one" or "team two." Once four people have joined one team, all other players will be automatically assigned to the other team. 2. Each team will be privately assigned an object to draw. The catch is you will only be drawing 1/4 of the object. Imagine a drawing of your object and then split it down the middle horizontally and vertically. Your individual drawing assignment will be to draw the NW, NE, SW, or SE "quadrant" of that object and send it to me. The pieces will then be assembled by me and presented to the other team. 3. Once the other team has received your assembled drawing, they will have to agree on what they think the object is. Three of the four members of the other team must agree on what the object is to register a guess. If the guess is correct, $10,000 will be added to the pot. If the guess is incorrect, no money will be added. This makes a total of $20,000 possible for our first mission. 4. How to draw your quarter: Go to this website art.com artPad and draw it. It is very straight forward and easy to use. When you have done so satisfactorily, follow these instructions: a. Select "SAVE AND SEND" from them menu on the left b. Find where it says "If you'd rather not send this painting to your friends but would like a link anyway, click here" and click. c. Copy and paste the link into a private message to me. Rules and Guidelines: 1. The spirit of this mission is to draw 1/4 of your object. To avoid violating the spirit of the mission, do not include text of any kind on your drawing or any overt hints. Stick to just drawing 1/4 of your object designed to fit with the rest of your team's drawings and you will be fine. 2. There is no set time limit for this mission, but if it starts dragging, deadlines will be set later to keep things moving. We will get things underway by having each member declare team one or team two now: GET TO IT! |

For clarity's sake, I know some are unfamiliar with the game format, there is only one mole in the game.

And for additional clarity, unlike WW games, you actually want people to think you are the mole.

All assignments have been sent. Please do not collaborate with your team or the other team in any way. Your piece must be drawn without input from anyone else.

Yeah it's pretty cool. Last season a couple of people told me they were glad I directed them to it, too.

I believe I have all of the pieces now. I will assemble them and post them in this thread as soon as possible. Once they are posted, you may begin discussing what you would like to guess for the other team's drawing. Please remember, discussing your own team's drawing is not allowed.

Incidentally, some weird resizing thing happened with the SE corner of team 2's image. It doesn't hurt anything so I just left it alone, but it was my doing, not the player's (you have to look pretty closely to even notice it, but I didn't want anyone to think that a player was trying to pull a fast one on anyone.
