FOOL 2033 Regular Season

Had to start the official thread.

I know it's strange-- I have taken some of the best players off of my team, which wasn't very good to begin with, and added parts that are at best fill ins. I am almost certainly going to end up with a top three pick in the draft.

But, dernit all to heck, I still micromanaged this lineup as much as any lineup, and I still expect to do well, and will be massively disappointed when I don't, lol.

Good luck, everyone.

Last season's champs Baltimore Charm have announced at times throughout the 2033 season, they will be wearing "Old-timer" uniforms for this season. The classic dark grey road jerseys will have a darker green undershirt and hat-brim.

2032 Gabriel Prado award and Benny Myers award winner Jaime Sanchez participated in the press conference to show off the alternate jersey:

2032 Continental League Hideaki Tanaka Award winner also displays the "classic" Baltimore road jersey:

The reigning 2032 FOOL Champion Baltimore Charm enter 2033 as the team to beat. Will they be the first repeat FOOL Champions since Napa Valley did it back to back in 2028 and 2029, or will they fall prey to a team along the way?

I pretty much have the same team back with a few small improvements at 1B and in the bullpen. Theoretically I'll be able to finish near the top of the league again. If not, I'm blaming Alan.

27 minutes until we kick off this season. I have a boat load of PM requests and trades and such to handle, so I would guess the season will kick off between 9:15 and 9:25pm ET tonight.

Have all of the transactions completed, but one team with a nasty salary cap violation that I am having problems trying to figure out how to get them under the cap without wrecking their season. Give me a few more minutes.

First hitting streak of the season is a carry over from last year:

Saturday, April 9th, 2033: Hooligans Chill Soto's Hot Streak
It was the best of both worlds for the Hammersmith Hooligans today at Rebels Ballpark as they defeated the Chico Rebels 5-1 and also ended Julián Soto's 21-game hitting streak. The 32-year-old Chico shortstop failed to get a hit in 5 at-bats.

"Nothing personal against Julián, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Hooligans skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."

When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Soto frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game."

This season Soto is hitting at a .317 pace with no home runs, 5 RBIs and has scored 6 times.

Sunday, April 10th, 2033: Hit Parade: Weston Gets Cycle
Getting 4 hits in a game is no easy feat, but hitting for the cycle is much more rare. Bernard Weston of the Boston Settlers was in rare form today, hitting for the cycle against Tokyo. But it wasn't a happy day -- His team still lost 12-4 to the Cyclones at Ballpark of Boston.

In baseball, a player hits for the cycle when he hits a single, a double, a triple and a home run in the same game, though not necessarily in that order. Collecting the hits in that exact order is known as a "natural cycle," which very rarely occurs.

It still was not a bad day for Weston -- he got 4 hits in 4 at-bats with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Despite the loss, his big day at the plate will still get him a mention in the record book.

He told reporters after the game, "It just happened. Must have been fate or something... you can't plan this. I was more concerned with winning the game. I hate to lose. 2-for-4 and a win is good enough for me."

B. Weston tripled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off J. Martínez in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th and singled in the 7th.

So far this season Weston is batting .286 with 1 home run, 3 RBIs and 7 runs scored. He has 12 hits in 42 at-bats, 2 walks and a .318 OBP. Weston has played in 10 games.

Friday, April 22nd, 2033: Juan Sierra Blanks Ann Arbor
"It was just one of those games, when everything went right. I threw a lot of strikes," Juan Sierra said. "And the pitches they did get to hit, they didn't do anything with them."

The New York Heroes pitcher really got it done in his 3-0 shutout victory over the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines, shutting them down on 4 hits. Sierra issued 1 walk and had 14 strikeouts.

This season in 5 starts Juan Sierra has a record of 3-1 with 40 strikeouts in 40.2 innings and a 1.77 ERA.

Good! I didn't think I was over but I checked the web reports and my payroll was at 65.6. Couldn't remember who I cut to get under, or if I cut anyone at all.

Monday, April 25th, 2033: Cooper on Fire: Burns Tokyo with 3 HR
Three home runs in a game doesn't happen often. When it does it is usually something special to celebrate. But George Cooper of Napa Valley couldn't really celebrate it. In spite of his career day, the Winemakers lost to the Cyclones 16-14. However, he can celebrate that he joined a select group of players who have hit three home runs in a single game. He powered three into the stands today against the Tokyo Cyclones.

In all he was 4-4 against Tokyo with 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored.

Cooper told reporters after the game, "It's rare that you actually try to hit a home run. Most of the time you fail, if you really try to hit one. But today I tried on the last one."

His manager added, "He is blessed with a natural home run swing. He gets the ball up in the air real quickly. It's just a shame we couldn't win the game, too. I'm sure it spoils the day a little for him. George is quite a competitor."

G. Cooper hit a two-run home run off Z. Geracimos in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit a GRAND SLAM off J. Brooks in the 4th, walked in the 7th, hit a solo-shot off J. Cota in the 9th, walked in the 11th and walked in the 13th.

This season Cooper is hitting .386 with 17 hits, 7 home runs, 18 RBIs, scored 12 runs and played in 19 games.

Monday, April 25th, 2033:Le Goes Cycling
Baltimore first baseman Fa-tang Le had a field day today at Charm Ballpark, battering Boston pitching for the cycle. He sparked the Charm to a 8-1 triumph over the Settlers by going 4-4 with 2 RBI and scoring 2 runs.

F. Le doubled in the 1st, was hit by a pitch in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and hit a two-run home run off C. Chong in the 8th.

In the current season, Le has put up a .307 batting average with 27 hits, 6 home runs, 20 RBI and scored 17 runs.

Sergio Lujan's hitting streak is snapped at 29 games. This is the longest hitting streak in a decade! The last player with a streak this long was Aaron McIntosh for New York who hit in 30 games straight back in 2023!

Thursday, April 28th, 2033: No Hits for Luján, String Runs out at 29
Baltimore second baseman Sergio Luján knew his hitting streak would end sooner or later. He just would have preferred later. Luján went 0-for-2 today in the Charm 3-0 victory over the Apex Assassins, snapping his 29-game hit streak.

This season Luján has 9 home runs and a .402 batting average.

He is getting up there in years. I have to imagine either this year or next he should start dropping in pitch velocity.

Sunday, May 1st, 2033: Lemieux #1 RL Pitcher in April
Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Renaud Lemieux still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 28-year-old starter for Hartford was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 44 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.69 ERA in 48 innings of work.

Sunday, May 1st, 2033: Charm Hurler Named April's #1 Starter
Jaime Sánchez took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award for April.

The 27-year-old Charm starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 5-2 won-lost record in 7 starts. He has fanned 41 batters in 45.2 innings and sports a 2.17 ERA.

When it came to hitting the baseball, Hou Chen had few Republic League peers in April. The left fielder for Colorado mauled opposing pitchers for a .382 batting average and was voted the league's best batter for the month.

He finished with some strong stats: 7 home runs, 30 RBIs, 21 runs scored, 6 walks and a .412 on-base percentage.

When Dave Juteau stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Tokyo first baseman posted a .381 batting average with 9 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 23 runs. Juteau also worked pitchers for 18 walks to post a .496 on-base percentage.

Sunday, May 1st, 2033: Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Frank Dawson was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old first baseman definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 28 games Dawson batted .373 for Chico, slapping 41 hits in 110 at-bats with 3 home runs, drove in 23 runs and scored 12 times.

Sunday, May 1st, 2033: CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
José Moreno earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Boston left fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Moreno hit .330 with 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Wednesday, June 1st, 2033: Chico First Baseman Best RL Rookie
Frank Dawson earned the Republic League Rookie of the Month award for his fine play in May.

The 26-year-old Chico first baseman batted .333, smacked 6 home runs and drove in 20 runs. He also tagged 36 hits, scored 23 runs and picked up 10 walks for a .395 on-base percentage.

Wednesday, June 1st, 2033: May's Premier CL Rookie Named
Colm Edwards is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Boston hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .290 average with 29 hits, no home runs and 5 RBIs.

Edwards is hitting .292 in 2033 with 20 RBIs and 1 home run.

Monday, June 6th, 2033: Sánchez Pitches Gem against Edmonton
In an almost effortless performance, Jaime Sánchez of the Charm shot down the Edge 2-0 on a 2-hit shutout.

His skipper said, "Jaime was just locating so well and using his pitches... not leaving anything over the plate."

Sánchez recorded 9 strikeouts and 2 walks in a strong outing.

In the postgame press conference, the Edmonton manager said, "When he needed to make pitches, he elevated his game like he can and we couldn't get a key hit off him."

In 2033 Sánchez has logged 9 wins and 3 losses and struck out 111 batters in 108.2 innings while compiling a 2.40 ERA.
