Are we allowed to sign FA's during this sim?

I always just assumed we could only extend our own?

Yes, you can sign whoever you want. There are no restrictions on signing FAs once the post-season ends in this league.

Aside from the fact that season 1 of the offer actually applies to the current season, so you have to have room for that first season.

I'm having issues exporting and the Export Tracker link for FOOL-H seems to have been hacked.

Woops, I tried to post a reply from my blackberry and it ended up closing the thread. my bad, fixed it.

I'm working from Connecticut today (am in East Windsor), so can't get a look at anything on the site until I am home. I don't run Dc's FOOL-H site, but I think I still have the ability to login and check some of it out.

If it is hacked as Spot said, don't go to it until DC can fix it or I can take a look at it, as it likely has malware on it that could infect your computer.

Ok, I just checked. Its not that the site was hacked, it wasn't.

DC let his domain expire it appears, so when you try to go to his site, it ends up going to a parked page.

DC, let me know if you need a place to host this stuff for a bit, I'm happy to help.

That's good to hear. It didn't look like it was supposed to happen like that...

Yeah, I have a lot of domains and this one lapsed and I forgot this league's files were on there. I'll get everything moved to a different domain and post the links once I do. Sorry, gang. It might be a bit, because I'm having some computer trouble at the moment, but...I'll get it together and let you know.

So we shouldn't be able to download the league file in-game at this point, correct?

I haven't tried it lately but I am assuming DC will let us know when it is ready to download. We likely will not be able to download it in game and have to manually download it instead though.

Computer issues are pretty much preventing me from doing much of anything at the moment. Tonight's sim is off for sure, I'll consolidate the FA period (so rather than FA1 and FA2, we'll just have FA tomorrow and then get back on schedule...as we've done a few times before) so we can get this figured out, because at the moment, the machine only works in spurts and so, I haven't had the opportunity yet to migrate much of anything.

So, sorry. Just need a bit of patience while this one gets sorted out and then we'll get the car back on the road.

Thanks.

Ok, so far, so okay for now. No HTML yet, I didn't want to press my luck.

But, download this .zip file and copy over all of the .dat files in your FOOL-H folder. Then you'll be able to download the new files from the new server with no problem, as I changed over everything to a new directory.

I'll get the HTML up in the next day or so. Maybe tonight, maybe later. But...I'll work it out. If you exported, be sure to send your exports up again because I won't have them on the new domain (and I can get them, since it's all on the same block of web space, but...it'll be smoother if you just send your export up again, once you download that zip file and copy over your league files.)

There isn't a new file on the server, so you don't have to download it, this just makes it so when there is, you're able to.

This means redoing our exports, right, since the extracted league will overwrite what we had?

Still am unable to get the new file after downloading that new file. I get the error: could not open a connection to the ftp server

I would usually download the file from the site in this situation, so I'm lost. Any ideas.

You manually downloaded this file correct and extracted it to the proper directory?:

http://9thdown.com/baseball/FOOLH_new.zip

Your in game date should be 11/17/1922 if you got it right. I just tried and can download the file ok in game after manually downloading that file.

I was able to just about 15 minutes ago myself. The league file link on the website was updated, try to update via that and see if it works

I forgot to expand rosters for spring training, so I'm going to upload a new file for you all now to do that and delay the run of the season until tomorrow at say, 2pm eastern time. (Noon Mountain) so that should give most folks enough to make the ST changes they need to make.

If you end up needing more time, just tell me.

i think you need to get the file off the website first and then update in game. see if that works

Question....

This historical setup is something I totally suck at but it is fun to watch nonetheless. I have been thinking about this since the draft class was announced and haven't been able to come to a decision of yet. So I was wondering what you experts think on this following matter...

Do you think I should play Jimmy Foxx right away or give him a year in the minors? He is only 15 but at 15 he can truly help me right away. I'd rather see him have a better career though and don't mind one bit waiting a season to do so if its better. I know you guys play in the league also so if you don't feel right answering I understand.

I almost always give my guys at least one year in the minors. But I'm in the minority on that.

I think you should draft Al Simmons!!

Seriously...if the ratings are not at the max(and his are not) then I'd drop him in the minors for at least a full season. A lot of guys in historical leagues are at the max when they come into the league so you can play them right away. Foxx is the exception.

Babe Ruth leading the league in stolen bases in ANY category is pretty darn funny...

+1

+1

I almost always bring up early first rounders immediately, and consider later first rounders only based on whether they can displace a starter on ratings, not development concerns. However, Foxx has miles to go from current to potential, and the game engine is NOT kind to players under 20 in general. I would work to surround him with a couple more draftees in the coming years and hope to peak around his 20th birthday. And this is not hollow advice, because I am in a major reload phase myself.

I am starting to see a lot of familiar names from my days as a slow sim Cubs manager. At one point I had Cool Papa Bell, Al Simmons, Flint Rhem, Watty Clark and Hi Bell all on my roster.

I have Hack Wilson as well right now. I am a die hard cub fan so I watch the Cubs players that come into the league closely as well.
