One other piece of news.. Johnny after being GM of the new York Heroes for several years has decided to pack up the team and move them North to become the Toronto Marlboros.

This is the first time Toronto has had a team since the former FOOL Champion Toronto Osprey left in 2002!

This also leaves New York without a FOOL team for only the second time in history. The first was a stretch between 2000 and 2002 where New York had no team.

Leroy Winter Gets Hit Number 2000
Sunday, April 6th, 2064: The St. Petersburg contest with Boston featured a real shining moment: Leroy Winter, the Pelicans first baseman, collected career base hit #2000. That his team lost the game, 10-7, took away only a little bit of the luster. Fittingly, the 31-year-old Winter, who went 2-for-3, received a warm ovation from the Legends Field crowd.

His lifetime stats show that Winter has hit .338 and connected for 403 home runs.

Marés Socks 400th HR
Monday, May 5th, 2064: 400 home runs is a lot of home runs to hit. It's a number that very few players reach. Today Luis Marés became a member of that exclusive club. He belted it at Ballpark of Boston against the Assassins. But sometimes milestone homers don't win the game. The powerful Boston left fielder got all of the headlines, but Apex came away with the victory. They beat the Settlers 6-4.

During the postgame interview he told the press, "It's a big relief to get it over. I tried not to think about it, but it's kind of hard when you have a huge sign on the scoreboard staring at you every time you step up to the plate. The home run was nice, but I would have preferred to win the game."

His batting totals for the game showed 1 hit in 4 at-bats, 1 home run and 3 runs batted in.

The hardworking and dedicated Marés also said, "I'll celebrate a little with my family tonight but not too much. This is not the last home run I will hit. I think I have a lot baseball left in me and have other goals. I'll get back to work tomorrow."

All-time Marés has played in 1648 games, batted .275 with 400 home runs and 1637 base hits.

Sandoval Rips HR Number 400
Sunday, May 25th, 2064: Winged Lingerines left fielder Víctor Sandoval reached a career milestone yesterday, blasting home run number 400.

He took the achievement in stride. "It's always good to get another home run and even better to get another win," Sandoval told reporters in the postgame interview.

He went 2-4 during the Ann Arbor 3-2 triumph over the Hartford Harpooners and scored 1 run with 1 RBI.

Sandoval is batting .281 lifetime with 1851 hits, 344 doubles, 55 triples, 400 home runs, 1410 RBIs to date. He has also scored 1240 runs.

May's Premier Pitcher Announced By RL
Sunday, June 1st, 2064: When Orlando Arévalo takes the mound, a Colorado victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 4-0 mark and a 2.68 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 37 innings, fanned 19 and held opposing batters to a .234 average.

That's why the Rancheros starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

For the year Arévalo has compiled a 5-4 record with a 4.06 ERA.

Settlers Hurler Named May's Top Starter
Sunday, June 1st, 2064: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Esteban Ortega still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 26-year-old starter for Boston was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 25 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 1.11 ERA in 40.2 innings of work.

In 10 starts this season Ortega has fashioned a 9-0 record and a 1.64 ERA.

Republic League Selects May's Best Batter
Sunday, June 1st, 2064: Today Ed Harris was voted Republic League Batter of the Month for June. During the month the 27-year-old Chico catcher compiled a .453 batting average.

Most importantly for the Rebels though, he also posted 11 home runs, 32 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

This season Harris has hit at a .442 clip with 56 RBIs, 18 home runs and 54 runs scored. He has played in 49 games.

Wood May's Best Bat Choice
Sunday, June 1st, 2064: Chet Wood battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Wood told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I may not take the field and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 27 games, Wood hit .354 with 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 21 runs.

Thus far this season in 50 games Wood is batting .322 with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 59 hits in 183 at-bats.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, June 1st, 2064: Toronto's Héctor Guardado collected 31 hits to snare the Republic League Rookie of the Month for May.

He batted .341 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

The 20-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

For the season Guardado is currently batting .333 with 9 home runs and 28 RBIs. In 50 games he has reached base at a .420 rate and scored 32 runs to date.

CL Spotlight Shines on Rookie Star
Sunday, June 1st, 2064: Salvador Rolón earned the Continental League Rookie of the Month honors for his fine stretch of play in May.

The 26-year-old Apex catcher batted .278, smacked 3 home runs and drove in 17 runs. He also tagged 25 hits, scored 12 runs and picked up 15 walks on his way to a .381 on-base percentage.

This season Rolón is hitting .265 with 50 hits, 8 home runs, 38 RBIs, scored 30 runs and played in 50 games.

Harpooners Hsia Smacks 6 Hits
Wednesday, June 25th, 2064: Hartford first baseman Qui-li Hsia could do no wrong in today's 15-10 win over the Hooligans as he collected 6 hits.

"In every one of his at-bats things were in his favor... he got hitter's counts," the skipper of the Hooligans said to the press corps after the game.

Hsia agreed. "The key is getting ahead. Once you get ahead, it makes it a lot easier because you get a better pitch to hit. You know the pitcher has to come in with it. And you're ready."

Q. Hsia singled in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, hit a two-run double in the 6th and singled in the 8th.

For the season Hsia has hit .387 with 10 home runs and 61 RBIs. He has played in 74 games and scored 72 times.

Días Nets RL #1 Pitcher Award
Tuesday, July 1st, 2064: José Días has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in June and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Rebels bullpen ace collected 9 saves and 14 strikeouts in 16.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .241 average and posting a 1.10 ERA and a 1-0 record.

Días has taken the mound for 33 relief appearances this season, nailing down 15 saves while notching a 5-1 record with a 1.57 ERA. The Chico reliever has limited opposing batters to a .181 batting average.

CL #1 Pitcher in June is Napa Valley's Vázquez
Tuesday, July 1st, 2064: Upon hearing the news that he had won the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for June's work, Napa Valley reliever Miguel Vázquez merely smiled.

"That's just the kind of guy he is, and that's what makes him so good out there," his manager told reporters. "The guy has ice water in his veins. Nothing short of a League Championship could get this guy excited and I'm not so sure that'd do it either."

Vázquez made 11 relief appearances burning through 14.2 innings as he racked up 7 saves, 12 strikeouts and held batters to a .111 average as he notched a 1-0 record and a 0.00 ERA.

This season Vázquez has recorded a 1-1 won-lost mark, pitched in 33 relief appearances and rung up 19 saves. He has a 1.77 ERA and has allowed 31 hits over his 40.2 innings of work, struck out 37 batters and walked 20.

The talented right fielder started 20 games, hit .276 with a .398 OBP. For the month, he totaled 21 hits, 10 home runs, 28 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Tuesday, July 1st, 2064: Youngster Tokichiro Yoshida emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from St. Petersburg deserved the honor, batting .337 with 2 home runs and 5 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Yoshida enjoy the limelight.

Vélez Earns RL Top Pitcher Trophy
Friday, August 1st, 2064: When Toronto reliever Jorge Vélez was called in from the bullpen in July, it was "lights out" for the other team. He usually put a quick stop to any potential rallies. For his solid mound work he was chosen the Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

The Toronto Marlboros reliever had 3 saves for the month with a 3-0 record and 3.38 ERA. He made 9 relief appearances, hurled 13.1 innings, yielded 12 hits, fanned 13 and walked 5.

Vélez has 37 relief appearances this year with 14 saves. Vélez has also compiled a 6-3 won-lost mark with a 2.24 ERA. In 52.1 innings he has fanned 44.

Continental League Announces #1 Starter
Friday, August 1st, 2064: Juan Jofre of St. Petersburg excelled on the mound in July with a 5-0 record and was named the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

Jofre restricted opposing batters to 22 base hits and a .191 batting average. He rang up 24 strikeouts in 32.2 innings of work, surrendered 9 walks, and fashioned a 1.10 ERA.

On the season Jofre has a 12-7 record with a 3.01 ERA.

Torrid July Gets Harris RL #1 Batter Trophy
Friday, August 1st, 2064: In the month of July Ed Harris thumped the ball with authority, earning Republic League Batter of the Month honors in the process.

Chico's catcher hit .412 with 6 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

This year Harris is batting .410 with 32 home runs.

July's Best CL Hitter is Leroy Winter
Friday, August 1st, 2064: To survive in the bigs, you've got to be a scrapper like Leroy Winter. It never pays to take a day off from the batting cages or to shrug off the advice of the hitting coach. It all paid off today as St. Petersburg's first baseman pinned down the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy today.

He hit .435 in July collecting 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

This year Winter has hit 24 home runs and posted a .349 batting average.

Friday, August 1st, 2064: In July Mario Allaire swatted his way to the Rookie of the Month Award in the Republic League by putting up a .318 batting average.

The Hyannis Patriots right fielder also racked up 21 hits, 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 18 runs.

So far in 2064 Allaire is batting .307 with 29 home runs, 89 RBIs and 78 runs scored. He has 95 hits in 309 at-bats and a .410 OBP.

Yoshida in a Class by Himself

Friday, August 1st, 2064: Tokichiro Yoshida is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In July the St. Petersburg hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .324 average with 24 hits, 1 home run and 4 RBIs.

Yoshida is hitting .288 this season with 6 home runs, 34 RBIs and 68 runs scored. He has 115 hits in 399 at-bats.

Only 3 times in FOOL history has there been a .400 hitter for a season. Two of those occurrences both came in 1998, the last time there was a .400 hitter.

With 100 games played and only 62 left to go, Chico's Ed Harris is sitting a .410!

For his part, Swanson chipped in 3 runs batted in, scored 2 runs and collected 2 hits in 4 at-bats, but it was not enough to turn the tide.

"It was a special day for Reid," the team publicist said afterward, "He was disappointed at the result, but everyone was all smiles as he crossed home plate. We're proud of him."

Swanson has played in 1841 games with a .273 lifetime batting average. Among his 1773 hits are 381 doubles, 52 triples and 301 home runs. He also has scored 913 runs and driven in 1126 runs.

That is right.. 46-6... Looking at that box score, I don't even know what happened. Multiple, and I mean multiple Hammersmith pitchers just got absolutely rocked.

Hidalgo Gets #300
Sunday, August 31st, 2064: It was a great day for Felipe Hidalgo, but not a good one for his Halifax Winter Wolves. The 38-year-old center fielder reached a personal milestone with his 300th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Boston Settlers, who came away with a 10-5 victory. Hidalgo finished the day with 2 hits, 3 runs batted in and 1 run scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

Hidalgo has a career .311 batting average with a .415 OBP. He has hit 300 homers, driven in 1372 runs and scored 1302 runs since he came into the league.

Vargas Wins Newcomer of the Month
Monday, September 1st, 2064: With August's Republic League Rookie of the Month title slung over his shoulder, Paco Vargas has no reason to be modest about his statistical output. But he was, telling BNN reporters, "I just put the bat on the ball a lot and a lot of them fell in. It was just my month to shine."

The 28-year-old blistered the baseball last month as he posted a .325 batting average, 26 hits, 6 home runs, 14 RBIs and 15 runs scored.

In his stats this season, Vargas has posted a batting average of .305 with 110 hits in 361 at-bats, 29 home runs and 78 RBIs. He has also scored 65 runs, walked 48 times and compiled a .389 OBP.

Sensational Month for CL Rookie
Monday, September 1st, 2064: Tokichiro Yoshida earned August's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish St. Petersburg right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Yoshida hit .366 with 2 home runs, 24 RBIs and 23 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Yoshida is presently batting .305 with 8 home runs, 91 runs scored and 58 RBIs. His OBP is .357.
