FOOL-X 2015 Regular Season

I'll start this up in about 10-15 minutes as soon as the FOOL update finishes running on my computer.

From the looks of things, I have a ton of PMs, so it might take a little bit to get the actual season rolling. Plus conference calls start at 8:30 for me this morning, so please be patient!

2500 Hits for Pedersen
Friday, April 24th, 2015: The day belonged to Bernt Pedersen of the Ann Arbor Wolverines as he became the latest player to reach the 2500-hit plateau. He did it in Ann Arbor's 10-1 win over Las Vegas.

"It's a moment I'll never forget," said Pedersen after the game, "2500 hits is a lot. It puts you in a very select group. I never expected to be around long enough to reach a milestone like this."

He finished the day with 2 hits in 5 at-bats.

Pedersen is batting .301 lifetime with 2501 hits, 395 doubles, 94 triples, 399 home runs, 1391 RBIs to date. He has also scored 1528 runs.

Lasseter Top RL Pitcher in April
Friday, May 1st, 2015: Henry Lasseter hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Cleveland starter earned a 3-0 mark in 5 starts. He threw 30 innings, struck out 10 and compiled a solid 2.10 ERA.

April's #1 Hurler Announced: Fuentes
Friday, May 1st, 2015: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Jesús Fuentes still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 35-year-old starter for Stafford was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and 1 loss with 10 strikeouts in his 5 starts, putting up a fine 2.03 ERA in 31 innings of work.

Brownlee Named June's #1 Newcomer
Wednesday, July 1st, 2015: Jason Brownlee is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Republic League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In June the Spring hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .308 average with 32 hits, no home runs and 12 RBIs.

For the year Brownlee has hit .253 with no home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 35 runs.

Pfeffer Wins Newcomer of the Month
Wednesday, July 1st, 2015: Martin Pfeffer earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Washington center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Pfeffer hit .298 with 2 home runs, 14 RBIs and 8 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Pfeffer is presently hitting at a .294 pace with 2 home runs and 22 RBIs. He has played in 61 games and scored 18 times.

Perhaps I underestimated the value of moving Carlos Gutierrez to the rotation and bringing up a 23 year old starter with a 4/8/4 ratings line. Hopefully this means the 23 year old is developing some control.

Or it could be luck and when I check on this later at work I'll have finished with the 9th pick and just out of the playoffs.

Good luck. Off to work now.

Nice to see 2b Bob Frost make the All-Star. Guy I drafted and played for us for several years and lost him to FA for a few years. Saw him on the FA market this year and I snatched him up to retire as a Nap.

Who knows how SS Juan Vásquez (CLE) is hitting... .353/.418/.487, 6 HR, 55 RB

He's a FA I picked up (1.4 mil) for his defense. Vasquez is a .225 lifetime hitter - lol

Jason Brownlee Captures Rookie of Month
Saturday, August 1st, 2015: Youngster Jason Brownlee emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Spring deserved the honor, batting .322 with 1 home run and 9 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Brownlee enjoy the limelight.

Presently Brownlee is batting .268 with 1 home run and 38 RBIs. He has played in 104 games and scored 45 times.

Sensational Month for CL Rookie
Saturday, August 1st, 2015: Leandro Friuli was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old shortstop definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen July's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 25 games Friuli batted .296 for Balzac, slapping 24 hits in 81 at-bats with no home runs, drove in 6 runs and scored 6 times.

A look at his season totals shows Friuli with no home runs, .245 BA, .281 OBP, 27 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Homer #300 for Balzac's Marino
Saturday, August 22nd, 2015: A big sigh of relief erupted from Roberto Marino after he hit his 300th career homer. The Balzac catcher said, "I'm glad it's over...now I can go back to just playing baseball."

It was quite a day for Marino. He got his name in the league record books with 2 hits, 1 RBI, scored 2 runs and his team, the Balzac Ticklers beat the Plantana Pirates 4-3.

Marino knew it when he hit it. He raised his hands in the air, then ran the bases like a high school player, clapping and grinning.

He told reporters in the postgame interview, "I was acting goofy running the bases... but it was my 300th home run."

"It was great," his manager said. "He stood there and watched it...we all did. You just felt it was coming...you just had a sense he would hit it soon. He has been having a lot of good at-bats. It was great to get it out of the way."

Marino is hitting at a .250 rate over his 1690-game career. Lifetime he has 278 doubles, 13 triples and 300 home runs with 944 RBIs and 882 runs scored.

Lions Wells No-Hits Legends
Saturday, August 29th, 2015: No hitters are rare. But the fans at Legends Stadium received a special gift as Sherwood Wells of the Lions tossed a no-hitter against the New York Legends. He was masterful as he struck out 6 and walked 4 in a 4-1 Spring victory. In all Wells faced only 32 batters. Wells did not appear to have his best stuff in the early innings, but soon got into a groove and made quick work of the Legends. He was helped by several defensive gems along the way.

The New York manager said to the press after the no-hitter, "We had our chances in the first few innings, when he was hittable, but he shut us down totally in the last 4-5 innings."

"I had late movement that seemed to cause them a lot of trouble, especially from the fifth inning on," Wells said to reporters.

In 26 starts this year Wells has posted 12 wins while suffering 7 losses. He has pitched 149.2 innings, allowed 135 hits, struck out 113 and has a 3.85 ERA.
