Harrington RL Outstanding Batter of the Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2033: Only one person can take home the Republic League Batter of the Month trophy for April and that person is Phil Harrington. During the month the Spring first baseman collected 40 hits in 90 at-bats.

Harrington put up a .444 average, hit 7 home runs, drove in 24 and scored 23 runs.

Super Month Nets Perreault #1 Batter Prize in CL
Sunday, May 1st, 2033: There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Elliott Perreault helped his contract negotiations by nabbing April's Continental League Batter of the Month honors.

The St Cloud center fielder put together a .424 batting average with 3 home runs, 17 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Perreault continues at this brisk pace.

Armando García Named RL Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2033: When you think of rookies, you think of men in their early to mid 20's. Despite the fact that Armando García is 30, he made a big splash by putting up solid numbers to win Republic League Rookie of the Month honors.

He told BNN reporters at the press conference, "I'm thrilled beyond words. All I can say is... better late than never."

In April, the Portland center fielder hit .359 while rapping out 23 hits, no home runs, 15 RBIs and 11 runs scored.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

Sunday, May 1st, 2033: Youngster Iain Reus emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Plantana deserved the honor, batting .289 with 9 home runs and 28 RBI. Is the month of April a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Reus enjoy the limelight.

Bob Joly Gets Hit Number 2500
Tuesday, May 17th, 2033: What a day for Bob Joly. The 35-year-old Waikiki catcher reached the 2500-hit mark today and the Beach Boys whipped the Portland Axemen 18-5.

Joly told reporters, "It's good to finally get it. The closer you get to 2500, the harder it is to get there. Now the pressure is off and I can go back to just playing ball."

He went 3 for 5 in the game to reach the milestone.

Lifetime Joly is batting .309 with 456 doubles, 20 triples, 461 home runs and 1509 RBIs in 1995 games.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Wednesday, June 1st, 2033: Iain Reus is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Plantana hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .258 average with 25 hits, 2 home runs and 17 RBIs.

So far this season Reus has hit .273 with 11 home runs, 45 RBIs and and scored 30 times.

3500 Hits for Chapman
Friday, June 10th, 2033: The Las Vegas 8-2 loss to Ann Arbor wasn't all bad. Something good came out it, at least for Alan Chapman. As a consolation prize he got the 3500th hit of his career. The veteran Wildcats shortstop went 3-for-4 in the game and added his name to the coveted 3500-hit club. He was given a five-minute ovation by the crowd, which included his wife and family and quite a few former Wildcats teammates.

"I could have scripted it better," Chapman commented to the press after the game, "a win would have made it a lot more enjoyable. But what the hey... hit #3500 ain't so bad."

Chapman has 3501 career hits with a .325 batting average and 168 home runs.

Chapman is only the 7th player with 3500 hits in league history.

In a related note, Maricopa's Eddie cunningham is only 18 hits away from the all time hits record of 3718!

Vargas's 32-Game Hit Streak Ends
Monday, June 13th, 2033: All good things must come to an end -- and so it was today for Juan Vargas as he saw his 32-game hitting streak end. He went hitless in 5 at-bats at the hands of the Rattlers. It wasn't all bad for the 30-year-old third baseman and the New York Legends, as they defeated Maricopa 4-2 at Rattlers Ballpark.

When asked about his hitting streak, a smiling Vargas laughed and said, "I guess my luck ran out today."

Vargas on the season is batting .305 with no home runs. His totals include 30 RBIs and 31 runs scored. He has played in 66 games.

Rookie Rapper Reaps RL Honors
Friday, July 1st, 2033: Ralph Donoghue was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 25-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen June's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Donoghue batted .284 for Ann Arbor, slapping 27 hits in 95 at-bats with 6 home runs, drove in 21 runs and scored 16 times.

Friday, July 1st, 2033: Iain Reus earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Plantana catcher might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

For the year Reus is batting .273 with 77 hits and 21 home runs. He has scored 46 times and driven in 72.

Ross Takes CL #1 Pitcher Trophy
Monday, August 1st, 2033: Donald Ross nailed down July's Continental League Pitcher of the Month award today, adding pressure on St Cloud to get a deal done before the 37-year-old becomes a free agent.

Ross seems unfazed by the talk. "We get a deal done or we don't," he told reporters, "I'm not worrying about next year. Worrying about next year isn't what wins awards, you know?"

He fashioned a 4-2 record, reeled off 45 strikeouts, worked 37.2 innings and held batters to a .222 average for the month as he posted a 1.91 ERA.

In 27 starts this season Ross has registered a 9-11 record and a 3.57 ERA.

Carmelo Reaches 2500
Friday, August 12th, 2033: He made it!
Carlito Carmelo got hit #2500! The Hops right fielder got his milestone hit at The Brewery against Havana. But it wasn't enough to bring home the victory. St Louis was beaten by the Banana Sluggers 7-2.

Carmelo's reaction to his accomplishment was nonchalant. He doffed his batting helmet to acknowledge the fans, who were chanting his name.

His manager said, "Carlito doesn't pay any attention to individual statistics, the only thing he cares about is winning. He will be more concerned that we lost the game."

Carmelo finished the game with 1 hit in 3 at-bats.

Carmelo has a career .337 batting average and .409 on-base percentage. He has recorded 2500 hits with 438 doubles, 36 triples, 283 homers, 1304 RBIs and scored 1227 runs since coming into the league.

Gilera August's Best Hurler in RL
Thursday, September 1st, 2033: The top pitcher this past month in the Republic League was Pablo Gilera of the Las Vegas Wildcats. He really bewildered league hitters, finishing August with an excellent 4-0 record and 1.93 ERA.

The Wildcats hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 28 hits in 37.1 innings. He struck out 36 and walked 9.

Gilera has fashioned a 7-10 mark for the season, 4.19 ERA and thrown 141.2 innings in 27 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .264 against him.

Mullets Díaz Chosen August's Best in CL
Thursday, September 1st, 2033: The Continental League Pitcher of the Month honor has been given to Manny Díaz of Oshawa for a superlative month.

"I actually never wanted to be a pitcher," Díaz told reporters when asked who he credits for his pitching ability. "I was an outfielder until high school and on the third day of tryouts my coach came up and said, 'Son you couldn't hit a lick even if we put it on a tee for ya.' Well, that ticked me off, so I decided if I couldn't hit I wanted to make sure no one else could either and so here I am."

It all turned out for the best as the Oshawa starter notched a 4-2 record with a 1.20 ERA last month. He made 6 starts and struck out 25 in 45 innings.

This season Díaz has compiled a 12-8 mark with a 4.26 ERA in 27 starts.

Moore August's Best Bat Choice
Thursday, September 1st, 2033: In August, Richie Moore let his bat do the talking for him. The Ann Arbor second baseman smacked the ball at a .309 average as he laid claim to the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 12 home runs, drove in 31 and scored 24 runs.

During the current season Moore is batting at a .330 clip with 36 home runs and 106 RBIs. He has played in 133 games and scored 104 times.

Red-Hot August Lands Atkinson Batting Prize in CL
Thursday, September 1st, 2033: When guys like Stafford's Jonas Atkinson win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive August, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 28 hits in 86 at-bats.

The veteran catcher hit for a .326 batting average and collected 11 home runs, 40 RBIs and 29 runs scored.

This season Atkinson is batting .305 with 27 home runs. He has scored 93 runs and driven in 96.

García Heads the Rookie Class
Thursday, September 1st, 2033: Armando García is a latecomer to this league. The 31-year-old Portland center fielder is putting up quality numbers, even though he's not your traditional rookie. On the heels of posting a .288 average, the Republic League named him August's Rookie of the Month.

He hit no home runs last month, knocking in 14 runs and scoring 12 runs. He banged out 21 hits and drew 7 walks to post a .350 OBP.

In his stats this season, García has posted a batting average of .287 with 100 hits in 349 at-bats, no home runs and 54 RBIs. He has also scored 51 runs, walked 34 times and compiled a .352 OBP.

Oshawa Hurler Nabs CL Rookie of the Month Crown
Thursday, September 1st, 2033: Yes, Carlos Martínez is just a rookie. But he is a special rookie. Today the 21-year-old Oshawa starter was awarded the Continental League Rookie of the Month trophy for his standout performance in August.

He dominated the rookie class, registering 5 wins and 1 loss in 6 starts with 36 strikeouts in 38.2 innings and a 3.26 ERA.

Not bad for a first-year man.

This year in 26 starts, Martínez has recorded 14 wins and absorbed 7 losses. He has pitched 169 innings, allowed 154 hits, struck out 117 and has a 3.20 ERA.

I'm pretty much out of time this morning. One of our engineers decided to swap out a router at a remote site in a "poor" way and now needs me to help save his butt. So I'm going to try to restore his connectivity through magic.

I'm going to finish up this last month in one run and post up the details, sorry there won't be any dramatic posts this morning!

Super Swinger -- Arce Slams 6 Hits
Wednesday, September 7th, 2033: "Ever since I picked up my first bat my coaches were always saying to keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing... just make contact and ya never know what'll happen," Rubén Arce told reporters after the game. "That's all I did today. I made contact and it turned out well."

It definitely turned out well for the New York left fielder today as he collected 6 hits in 6 at-bats against Portland. But not so good for his team, as the Axemen took the game at The Beaver Den, whipping the Legends 19-17.

Rubén Arce singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.

A look at his season totals shows Arce with 15 home runs, .321 BA, .400 OBP, 109 RBIs and 124 runs scored.

Busse Twirls No-Hitter Against Mullets
Tuesday, September 20th, 2033: Stafford's Len Busse came up big today at Molson Stadium with an exceptional 11-0 outing against the Oshawa Mullets. Not only did he whip them, but Busse held them hitless, too. He brought his "A stuff" to the ballpark, finishing with 3 strikeouts and 4 walks -- a day good enough to get his name in the league record book.

"My arm was a bit sore in warmups," confessed Busse. "Sometimes you go out there and you're not feeling all that hot. You get into the game... and all of a sudden in the seventh inning you look up and see the scoreboard and think to yourself, 'Oh, my goodness, I have a no-hitter!' You're so focused on what you're doing, it just happens."

Then he added, "Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter. We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. At least the batters are happy with that kind of win. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up 9 runs, though. But hey, a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. This kept the Mullets off balance and guessing the whole game."

Busse has posted a 6-13 record for the year with a 4.01 ERA. Teams are hitting .244 against him and he has rung up 112 strikeouts in 188.1 innings.

As is tradition in FOOL leagues, Cleveland will lose in the first round of the playoffs to Ann Arbor tomorrow, likely by a 4-2 margin even!

Ah I am whole again. I have been waiting to feel at home and back to normal and playing a season in FOOL and a regular season in FOOLX makes me complete again.
