Aguilar Breezes to Shutout Victory
Wednesday, April 6th, 2050: St Cloud hurler Mario Aguilar was at his best as he whitewashed the Chicago Southpaws 10-0 today.

"He just kept the ball down, did a good job, made his pitches," said the Chicago manager. "We didn't do a good job making adjustments, so we helped him out a little bit."

Aguilar fired a 2-hitter and totaled 2 strikeouts and 4 walks in the shutout performance.

2500 Hits for Caro
Tuesday, April 26th, 2050: Havana's Arturo Caro entered the record books today as he collected hit number 2500 at The Brewery.

"I am proud of this. Not too many player reach this level. You have to be around quite a few years and you have to get a lot of hits," Caro said after the game.

On his milestone day he went 1 for 5 as the Banana Sluggers won 10-3 over the St Louis Hops.

In his career Caro has compiled a .305 batting average and collected 2500 hits, 472 home runs and 1469 RBIs.

Reliever Figueroa Top RL Pitcher in April
Sunday, May 1st, 2050: Ramón Figueroa has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Lions bullpen ace collected 3 saves and 16 strikeouts in 11 innings, holding the opposition to a .175 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 3-0 record.

Gutiérrez Named Top CL Hurler
Sunday, May 1st, 2050: José Gutiérrez hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Continental League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In April the Chicago starter earned a 4-2 mark in 7 starts. He threw 36.2 innings, struck out 30 and compiled a solid 2.95 ERA.

Torrid April Gets López RL #1 Batter Trophy
Sunday, May 1st, 2050: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 27-year-old Francisco López put together a solid offensive month for Las Vegas and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .367 with no home runs, 15 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

CL Batter of the Month Honors to Cox
Sunday, May 1st, 2050: Though his face is weathered and his hands are calloused, William Cox can still get it done in FOOL-X. In fact, the 31-year-old left fielder for Washington was named the Continental League Batter of the Month today after putting up an impressive performance at the plate.

In April he batted .309 with 8 home runs, 13 RBIs and 27 runs scored.

Republic League Names Rookie of Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2050: Ira Wilcox's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Las Vegas shortstop has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .320 with 7 doubles, 2 triples and no home runs. Wilcox also scored 16 times and drove in 8 runs.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Sunday, May 1st, 2050: António Velásquez is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Plantana hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .325 average with 27 hits, 1 home run and 18 RBIs.

I don't like the looks of this....I decided to go with the 4 man rotaion this year...I better get some padding early as I always seem to fade in Aug/Sept with a 4 man staff.

Quifel Tames Naps
Friday, May 27th, 2050: In an impressive outing, Romão Quifel whitewashed the Cleveland Naps 10-0.

"I'm getting a lot more downward movement instead of side to side. That side-to-side stuff can get hit a long way," said Quifel, who is throwing with more of an overhand motion.

"It's not rocket science. It was just a little adjustment, but that's all it took."

The New York hurler held Cleveland scoreless, allowed 5 hits, chalked up 14 strikeouts and yielded no walks.

To this point in the season, Quifel shows a 5-3 record, 12 starts, 55.2 innings, 50 strikeouts and a 5.50 ERA.

Not happy with 15-10? Try to relax, you're only a half game out of first!

May's Starter of the Month Goes to Wilson
Wednesday, June 1st, 2050: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, John Wilson still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 33-year-old starter for New York was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 3 wins and no losses with 43 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 0.64 ERA in 42 innings of work.

This season Wilson has compiled a 6-1 mark with a 1.29 ERA in 13 starts.

CL Announces May's Best Starter
Wednesday, June 1st, 2050: Veteran Gabriel Rivera put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Stafford Terriers, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Rivera racked up a 6-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.67 ERA over 43 innings and striking out 35.

This season Rivera has registered 8 wins and no losses in 11 starts with a 2.48 ERA.

Reséndez Wins Newcomer of the Month
Wednesday, June 1st, 2050: May was a month to remember for Waikiki right fielder Pedro Reséndez and it was capped off today with the announcement that he was named the winner of the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

Reséndez compiled a .264 batting average and .349 on-base percentage last month. In 28 games he piled up 29 hits, 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This season Reséndez is swinging the bat at a .247 rate with 53 hits in 215 at-bats. To date he has hit 10 home runs, scored 28 runs and driven in 30.

Right Fielder Honored by CL

Wednesday, June 1st, 2050: Youngster Walker Byers emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Chicago deserved the honor, batting .363 with no home runs and 14 runs batted in. Is the month of May a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Byers enjoy the limelight.

This season Byers has no home runs and a .328 batting average.

Richardson Makes 300 Mark
Sunday, June 12th, 2050: Clayton Richardson circled the bases and raised his arm in triumph. He had finally hit his 300th home run. It was a homer for a lot of people: himself; his teammates past and present; his former managers and coaches; and especially his family, who sat near the plate cheering his every at-bat during the past few games.

Richardson spoke with BNN and said, "I knew number 300 would come sooner or later. I had to keep reminding myself, 'Relax, relax, just let it happen, let it happen.' And it finally did."

His milestone homer came in the Ann Arbor Wolverines 21-3 win over the Cleveland Naps. Richardson went 3 for 5 in the game, scored 2 runs, and batted in 7.

During his career Richardson has hit for a .241 average and totaled 1296 hits, 301 home runs and 887 RBIs.

Number 500 for Donlon
Friday, June 17th, 2050: It was a great day for Dale Donlon, but not a good one for his Las Vegas Wildcats. The 37-year-old right fielder reached a personal milestone with his 500th career homer, but it wasn't enough to beat the Portland Axemen, who came away with a 9-7 victory. Donlon finished the day with 2 hits, 1 RBI and 1 run scored.

"Well, I've conceded the fact that you can't will yourself to hit a home run," he said. "I tried hard for the last few days. It was getting to be embarrassing with the crowd standing up every time I came to the plate."

His career stats show that Donlon has batted .317 and connected for 500 home runs.

Lynn Slams Milestone Homer
Monday, August 22nd, 2050: He has done it!
Jim Lynn has reached the 400 home run mark. He did it today, but the Cleveland Naps still dropped the game to the Las Vegas Wildcats by the score of 11-6.

"Number 400 was hard to come by. I think the pressure was getting to me a little bit. I got a call a few days ago from a couple of guys that have been through this and they just said, 'Keep going, have some fun. Just be you.' I think that helped me a little bit, having those guys make a call to me and try to settle some of the nerves down."

On his historic day Lynn was 1-4 with 1 run batted in and 1 run scored.

In 1504 career games Lynn has batted .261 with 1496 hits with 240 doubles, 30 triples and 400 home runs. He has also collected 1148 RBIs and scored 901 runs.
