Wanted to share the good news with FOFC

I have been rather quiet and distant for most of the year due to a conflict with a certain poster, but I had to share the good news with a community I spent a large part of the past ten years with.

Mrs. Poli and I have been married six months today. We are now expecting our first child. Being 35, I wondered if this day would ever come. I'm happy beyond belief.

Those of you with me on Facebook, I'd ask that you not send congratulations as of yet. She has not yet told her parents or siblings. She'll tell them this afternoon during a previously arranged family get together.

May: Get Married
Go on my first vacation ever...to Disney World no less
Birthday as well.

October: Go to Neyland Stadium for my first ever game in Knoxville...my first ever UT football game. Sit in the front row!
Go to a World Series game in St. Louis

November: Find out we're having a baby!

Best year, ever. 2012, you have a lot of work to do.

Rodney, that's awesome. Congrats!

BTW, I know I have had a couple messages from you on FB the past few weeks, but I have just been nutty busy, barely been on FB. So sorry if I disappeared there. Glad to see things are going so well for you.

Congrats, I'm sorry. Kiss life as you know it goodbye.

Oh, one piece of advice. Next spring, go buy everything you need at yard sales. Cribs, strollers, diaper genies, bathtubs, car seats, clothes, etc. You'll pay 1/5th of the normal cost for stuff you'll need only for a short time. Kids outgrow this stuff faster than it gets used up. Heck, if you take care of it, you'll be able to re-sell it for the same amount that you bought it for.

This excellent news also bodes well for FOFC Dynasty fans. I mean, you're going to be awake at all sorts of strange hours soon, going to be a lot of opportunities to write little snippets at 4am

You know that I'm absolutely over the moon for you both, I honestly can't think of anyone I know that will make a better Dad than you will.

Of course, I expect it to be a precious little girl, just 'cause that will blow your mind even more

Poli, I'm sure I warned you that if you hung out around that pretty woman for too long, you were gonna knock her up. Congratulations to you both!

Now I just feel kinda shitty for being the poster that drove him away from FOFC.

Sounds like you have had a phenomonal year, both with "real life" and "fun stuff". Congrats and best of luck with your first child. I'm sure 2012 will have its share of great moments as well, but they will be all kinds of different than this past year.

Truer words have never...

Also, set patterns and stick to them. Theyre your best friend. Bath, bottle, brush, bed by 8. You'll have the best nights of your life when compared to your friends who did not set patterns and cant figure out why their kid is a nightmare, wont sleep, wakes up all the time, etc. Patterns for everything.

I'd argue that the patterns that work best are the ones that recognize the realities that you're dealing with; for example, "bed by 8" would have meant that my wife was able to spend about a half hour a day with our son for the first couple of years of his life. Unacceptable tradeoff for us.

But we can argue that one later once we all (me most definitely included) tell him how he's supposed to do things

The 8 is interchangeable with any time its the pattern leading up to the event that's critical.

Be prepared to get mounds of (often conflicting) advice from everyone and anyone, be prepared to ignore the vast majority of it all and figure out what works for yourself and the kid.

Congrats.
