CL Honors Sekine, #1 Batter in April
Saturday, May 1st, 2094: On the heels of a very productive April, Tokaji Sekine received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested right fielder hit .340 for the Plantana Pirates and racked up 8 home runs, 22 RBIs and 13 runs scored.


April's Best RL Hitter is Palmer Walters
Saturday, May 1st, 2094: When it came to hitting the baseball, Palmer Walters had few Republic League peers in April. The first baseman for New York mauled opposing pitchers for a .352 batting average and was voted the league's best batter for the month.

He finished with some strong stats: 10 home runs, 24 RBIs, 21 runs scored, 10 walks and a .432 on-base percentage.

Washington Reliever April's Best Pitcher
Saturday, May 1st, 2094: Oscar McGuire has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in April and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Freedom bullpen ace collected 11 saves and 23 strikeouts in 14.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .106 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 2-0 record.


Reliever Zavala Chosen April's Best in RL
Saturday, May 1st, 2094: So when does a fireman win an award?
When he's named Javier Zavala, that's when.
The Portland reliever won the Pitcher of the Month Award honors today for April, thanks to the solid numbers he put up coming out of the bullpen.

He made 13 relief appearances and compiled 2 saves with a 3-0 mark, 15 innings, 11 strikeouts and a 2.40 ERA.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2094: Mauro López is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In April the Washington hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .328 average with 20 hits, 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.


Wally Griffin Named RL Rookie of Month
Saturday, May 1st, 2094: Wally Griffin of the Maricopa Rattlers went on a month-long hitting streak against Republic League pitching and hauled in the Rookie of the Month award for April.

He batted .406 and collected 26 hits, 3 home runs, 9 RBIs and scored 15 runs.

Bungay Wins CL's Best Bat Trophy
Tuesday, June 1st, 2094: When guys like Havana's Vincent Bungay win Batter of the Month awards, it just makes you feel good. In a productive May, the longtime Continental League veteran toyed with opposing pitchers all month long, collecting 39 hits in 114 at-bats.

The veteran second baseman hit for a .342 batting average and collected 4 home runs, 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Bungay is hitting .303 this season with 7 home runs, 33 RBIs and 32 runs scored. He has 60 hits in 198 at-bats.


Graves Crowned Batter of the Month in May
Tuesday, June 1st, 2094: In May, Bob Graves swung a sweet bat and put together a solid month to win the Republic League Batter of the Month.

The Las Vegas center fielder batted .398 with 10 home runs, 31 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

In his season totals Graves has 15 home runs and a .393 batting average.

Continental League Selects #1 Starter in May
Tuesday, June 1st, 2094: Marcos Rentería of the St Cloud Raindrops outdistanced his peers on the mound this month. He fashioned a fine 6-0 won-lost mark and 0.69 ERA in 6 starts to get the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors.

Rentería had a very impressive May, finishing with 37 strikeouts in 39.1 innings and holding opposing hitters to a .200 average.

To date Rentería is 7-2 in 11 starts with a 1.72 ERA and has 76 strikeouts in 68 innings.


May's Pitcher of the Month Goes to Hernández
Tuesday, June 1st, 2094: In May, Roberto Hernández tore through the Republic League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Las Vegas starter posted a 6-0 mark and an ERA of 1.65 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 43.2 innings he collected 30 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .222 average.

This year Hernández has worked 71.2 innings with 55 strikeouts en route to a 8-0 record and a 1.88 ERA.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month
Tuesday, June 1st, 2094: César Navarro earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Manchester third baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Navarro hit .345 with 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and 10 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

This season Navarro is hitting .294 with 32 hits, 5 home runs, 18 RBIs, scored 15 runs and played in 42 games.


May's Premier RL Rookie Named
Tuesday, June 1st, 2094: In the month of May Lynn Jarvis hit the ball hard, often and with authority and was honored as the Republic League Rookie of the Month.

He did it in standout fashion as the New York's catcher hit .275 with 3 home runs and 21 RBIs while scoring 15 runs.

Looking at his season stats, Jarvis has compiled a .294 batting average and a .341 on-base percentage, while hitting 7 home runs and driving in 40 runs.

CL Presents Batter of Month Trophy to Wanhalla
Thursday, July 1st, 2094: Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 32-year-old Wayne Wanhalla put together a solid offensive month for Havana and was crowned June's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .369 with 6 home runs, 19 RBIs and 32 runs scored.



Currently Wanhalla is batting .330 with 104 hits and 10 home runs. He has knocked in 35 runs and scored 60 times.


Valdéz Brings Home RL Batter of Month Honor
Thursday, July 1st, 2094: In June, Ignacio Valdéz beat the baseball like a drum the entire month and netted the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

In 27 games the Spring designated hitter hit .462 with 5 home runs, 16 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

Valdéz is hitting .399 in 2094 with 51 RBIs and 12 home runs.

Oshawa Starter Named CL's #1 Pitcher
Thursday, July 1st, 2094: The Continental League announced the winner of the Pitcher of the Month Award for June.

It went to Roberto Guzmán of Oshawa for his outstanding 5-1 record and 2.04 ERA.

Guzmán also chalked up 6 starts, 39.2 innings and 33 strikeouts.



In 16 starts this season Guzmán has gathered 11 wins while suffering 1 loss. He has pitched 103.1 innings, allowed 81 hits, struck out 74 and has a 2.18 ERA.


Relief Ace Cops #1 Pitcher Award in June
Thursday, July 1st, 2094: In June, the elite pitcher in the Republic League was José Magana, thanks to some great numbers coming out of the bullpen.

The Las Vegas relief specialist posted a 2-0 mark and an ERA of 2.25 in 12 innings with 16 strikeouts and 7 saves in 7 save opportunities.

Magana has collected 20 saves for the year with 39 strikeouts and 10 walks in 32.1 innings while registering a 5.57 ERA and a 2-4 won-lost record.

Vega Named Newcomer of the Month
Thursday, July 1st, 2094: Lorenzo Vega put up eye-catching numbers in June to earn himself the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award.

The center fielder for the St Cloud Raindrops batted .351 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and 12 runs scored as he proved he does deserve to play in the Continental League.

Vega's current batting average stands at .256 and he has chalked up 9 home runs and 26 RBIs.


Great Month for RL Rookie
Thursday, July 1st, 2094: Luis Mateo's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Ann Arbor shortstop has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .302 with 9 doubles, 2 triples and 3 home runs. Mateo also scored 20 times and drove in 22 runs.

This year Mateo is hitting .274, produced 48 RBIs and 7 home runs, scored 48 times and gotten on base at a .306 rate.

St Cloud's Bradley Collects July Batting Honor
Sunday, August 1st, 2094: Ben Bradley battered Continental League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around FOOL-X long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 31-year-old Bradley told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Bradley hit .346 with 7 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 14 runs.

Looking at his stats this year, Bradley has compiled a .276 batting average, while hitting 23 home runs and driving in 63 runs. He has played in 102 games and scored 49 runs.


RL Announces Outstanding Batter Award
Sunday, August 1st, 2094: July was a very productive month for Dan Iverson, and today the Spring third baseman was rewarded with the Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

He clobbered enemy hurlers for a .333 average, 7 home runs, and 25 RBIs and scored 24 runs.

So far this season Iverson is batting .330 with 27 home runs.

CL Picks July's Top Pitcher
Sunday, August 1st, 2094: Francisco Nieves was the anchor in the Oshawa bullpen last month and snatched up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month honors for July. The 31-year-old is in the prime of his career and pitching like he intends to stay around baseball for quite some time to come.

He threw 12 innings over 12 relief appearances and collected a 1-0 record with 14 strikeouts and 9 saves while etching his 0.00 ERA.

This year his season stats show Nieves has 26 saves in 49 relief appearances with a 7-3 record and 1.10 ERA.


RL Relief Ace Gómez Named Best Hurler
Sunday, August 1st, 2094: The best at putting a stop to late-inning rallies in the Republic League in July was Rafael Gómez of the Spring Lions. For his stellar work out of the bullpen, he has been named Pitcher of the Month.

He chalked up a 1-0 record, 14 relief appearances and 11 saves with a 0.66 ERA. Gómez pitched 13.2 innings and rang up 15 strikeouts.

To date this year Gómez has saved 26 games while tossing 52 innings. He has a 2.42 ERA, fanned 55 batters and made 46 relief appearances.

Washington Rookie Reels in Reward in July
Sunday, August 1st, 2094: Mauro López was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 23-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen July's Continental League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 23 games López batted .280 for Washington, slapping 21 hits in 75 at-bats with 2 home runs, drove in 13 runs and scored 10 times.

So far this season, López has recorded a .281 batting average with 79 hits, 7 home runs, 39 RBIs, 37 runs scored and a .348 OBP.


Best Republic League Newcomer Named
Sunday, August 1st, 2094: Youngster John Sears emerged as the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Maricopa deserved the honor, batting .303 with 5 home runs and 13 RBI. Is the month of July a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Sears enjoy the limelight.

This season Sears has banged out 79 hits in 395 at-bats for a .200 average with 11 home runs. He is getting on base at a .245 pace and his totals also include 29 RBIs and 53 runs scored.

CL's Top Hitter Named
Wednesday, September 1st, 2094: Emerson Hubbard has been the model of consistency over the past month and has been a tough out, claiming the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy for August.

The Oshawa left fielder hit .281 with 11 home runs, 30 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He was also walked 12 times and posted a .346 on-base percentage.

Hubbard currently has a .261 batting average with 131 hits, 32 homers, 99 RBIs, 74 runs scored and a .326 OBP.


Silva Named RL Batter of the Month
Wednesday, September 1st, 2094: It's official. BNN writers have voted Rafael Silva of the Spring Lions the Republic League Batter of the Month award for August.

During the month he recorded a .378 average with 5 home runs, 20 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

For the year Silva is batting .314 with 13 home runs, 89 RBIs and 81 runs scored.

Hops Yamamoto August's Top Hurler
Wednesday, September 1st, 2094: 31-year-olds don't often go 4-0 in and haul away the the best pitcher award, but Toin Yamamoto did all that. Now, he's the toast of the Continental League. Today he was crowned the Pitcher of the Month for August.

In 6 starts he posted a 0.84 ERA and struck out 36 batters in 42.2 innings.

In 27 starts this season Yamamoto has recorded a 12-8 record and a 3.05 ERA.


August's #1 Hurler Announced: Delgado
Wednesday, September 1st, 2094: Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Bartolo Delgado still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in August. The 29-year-old starter for New York was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 3 wins and no losses with 51 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 1.81 ERA in 44.2 innings of work.

Checking out his stats for the season, Delgado has notched 16 wins and 5 losses in 33 starts, 2.93 ERA and struck out 208 batters in 205.2 innings.

First-Year Fame: St Louis Hurler Honored
Wednesday, September 1st, 2094: For an old man, in baseball terms, 31-year-old Toin Yamamoto has been mighty fortunate to get to the big leagues and have the opportunity to show what he can do. In August the battle-weary newcomer finally made a splash as he won the Continental League Rookie of the Month Award today.

He posted a 4-0 record with 36 strikeouts and an ERA of 0.84 in 42.2 innings.

Baseball writers for whom he was an afterthought earlier are now scrambling to put out stories about St Louis's Ye Olde Rookie.

In 27 starts this year Yamamoto has crafted a 12-8 record and a 3.05 ERA.


Lawton Picked RL's Top Newcomer
Wednesday, September 1st, 2094: Glen Lawton is a latecomer to this league. The 32-year-old Ann Arbor right fielder is putting up quality numbers, even though he's not your traditional rookie. On the heels of posting a .336 average, the Republic League named him August's Rookie of the Month.

He hit 5 home runs last month, knocking in 21 runs and scoring 13 runs. He banged out 37 hits and drew 3 walks to post a .360 OBP.

Batting .300 to date, Lawton has 13 home runs and 63 RBIs.

Bungay Grabs CL Best Batter Award for September
Friday, October 1st, 2094: Vincent Bungay received the Continental League Batter of the Month trophy earlier today for his efforts at the plate this last month.

"He might be getting older," Havana's manager told reporters, "But he's been around long enough to know what it takes to put a stretch such as this together... and he doesn't keep that to himself. He's always talking to the younger guys in the clubhouse helping 'em any way they'll let him. Vincent's value to our team goes farther than the numbers he puts up on the field."

To win the honor Bungay put up a .347 batting average, 5 home runs, 23 RBIs and scored 21 times in September.

This year Bungay is hitting .297 with 19 home runs and 89 RBIs in 159 games played. He also boasts an OBP of .434 with 141 walks and 104 runs scored.


RL's Premier Batter Picked
Friday, October 1st, 2094: September's Republic League Batter of the Month trophy was claimed by left fielder Daniel Williams of the Waikiki Beach Boys.

Raindrops Hurler Named September's Top Starter
Friday, October 1st, 2094: September's top hurler was Anthony Rigsby of St Cloud. He shackled Continental League hitters the entire month and claimed the Pitcher of the Month award with a sparkling 4-1 mark.

The 26-year-old Rigsby added 31 strikeouts in 39.2 innings and 5 walks to his season record and compiled a 1.82 ERA. Other clubs hit .201 against him.

This season Rigsby has worked 192 innings with 150 strikeouts en route to a 15-10 record and a 3.14 ERA.


Conboy Grabs RL Top Pitcher Trophy
Friday, October 1st, 2094: Phil Conboy's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in September, the 26-year-old Ann Arbor hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 38 in 34.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.31 and allowed opponents to hit .161 against him.

This season Conboy has compiled a 14-9 mark with a 3.31 ERA.
