Bummer. I really enjoyed listening to him during my time at Pitt in the late 80's.....

Smizik: This Cook found successful recipe for life - Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Article about Beano from 2006 in the PPG

Great line

He's a life-long bachelor who, for decades, happily has told many he was not financially encumbered because he did not possess the three things most men did: "A car, a wife and an ex-wife."

Always liked Beano.

Kind of surprised that he was "only" 81. He seemed to be old forever.

Hopefully someone creates a youtube video of some of his TV highlights -- i always enjoyed seeing him get pissed off on ESPN and Sportsbeat.

Kinda feel bad for hoping he died a few months ago. Not that bad tho. Good riddance.

If somebody made DVDs of Sportsbeat, I'd pay way too much money for those.

I listen to the ESPN College Football podcast with Ivan Maisel, and I always looked forward to Beano Cook being on the show. When they said he was out for a while, I knew it was serious enough that he probably would never be on the podcast again. I didn't think, however, he was that sick. It saddens me to see this news.

RIP. Remember him growing up on ESPN. He's now in a place where Ron Powlus is winning multiple Heismans.
