Unhappy Big Tex is no more

A fire this morning at the State Fair of Texas destroyed the iconic Big Tex.

Wait? WTF. I'm going to the State Fair tomorrow and you're telling me I won't even get to see Big Tex?

Nope. I was there last Sunday and snapped a pic on the way out. He'd been there as the greeter for the State Fair for the past 60 years.

We decided to go the last weekend because it wasn't Opening Weekend or the football weekends. And now I won't ever have gotten to see Big Tex

"Gentlemen, we can rebuild him. We have the technology. We have the capability to make the world's first bionic State Fair icon. Big Tex will be that icon. Better than he was before. Better...more fire resistant...larger."

The family and I were planning to go this weekend, still will I'm sure but it won't be the same without Tex. And now that I think about it Tex really scared my son last year, he screamed and cried until we walked away. There aren’t any reports of a 3 year old with a lighter at the scene are there?

There was nothing better than hitting that Fletcher’s stand right there and enjoying a hot corny dog and a cold Shiner in Big Tex’s shadow. I’ll pour a little out for you this weekend big guy.

Edit: And I put the over/under at 15 minutes before some OU fan photoshops Bevo’s face on there.

A lightning strike torched and burnt to the ground our iconic statue, Touchdown Jesus about 2 years ago.

Very recently, a new statue was born, and it sucks balls in comparison. Not the same effect.

Big Tex burning up is like 9/11 for Texas. We need a memorial and Ground Zero.

There are lots of those.

So the symbol of the Texas State Fair is a giant, flaming cowboy?

I hear DeLoss Dodds has already offered $5M to rebuild a new 'Big Tex' that no one in the state of Texas will be able to see.

The area where Big Tex was had a banner and smelled somewhat charred. Tho that could have easily been all the fried food within a 50' radius.
