IT help. Operation sports won't connect on home network
It's really odd. I connect fine in my iPhone. If I try from my laptop or iPad the connection times out no reset the router and modem
No dice. Tried on IE and Firefox plus safari on the iPad and nothing. Think it is a network issue but was working fine last night. Suggestions ? All other web pages work fine. |

You should delete any pictures on your hard drive that have women in them.

I had the same issue with another website a few weeks ago, I couldn't connect from my home network unless it was through a proxy site. Had to call the cable company and it took them two weeks to fix it.

Yeah that seems to make FOFC run better, that's why we delete them from threads right? |

That's what my guess is. I'm not a member of the elite club that would know for sure though, so it's just speculation at this point.

When I had my issue with another site my cable company said it was a DNS issue. Lathum, have you tried to get here through a proxy site like Anonymouse?

Can you mobile hotspot your phone to make sure it's not a PC issue?

Start > run > cmd In the DOS box type: nslookup www.operationsports.com
If DNS is working you should get a reply with the IP 173.192.56.164 Last edited by Router Help : 02-07-2013 at 09:15 PM. |

Looks like a DNS issue with your ISP (road runner?) Those two IPs definitely do not belong to operation sports.
This should fix it on your PC: Open notepad (on windows 7 or 8 you'll have to right click on it and select open as administrator) Browse to C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc Change the file type it is looking for from *.txt to ALL files Open the hosts file Add this line at the bottom: 173.192.56.164 www.operationsports.com Save and close file It should work on your PC now. Very strange, every Time Warner/RR DNS server I query gives me the correct IP for operationsports.com
Still looks like a DNS issue though. Last edited by Router Help : 02-07-2013 at 10:03 PM. |

you could also flush your DNS...
Start > Run > type CMD to open the command line window They type: ipconfig /flushdns This should clear out any cached DNS information and force you to grab new information. Now if your ISP is caching bad information you'll just get the same addresses when you try. You could also change your DNS provider - there are several free ones out there, just do a google search on it... Last edited by Breeze : 02-08-2013 at 06:25 AM. |

Big ups the Ben who replyed to my PM very quickly. Apparently another member had a similar issue. He needs my IP address to give to OS and that hopefully will clear it up.

I had this issue about five or six weeks ago. Did a tracert and it kept timing out at the same spot. The only way I got to FOFC was through a proxy. Chatted with a Comcast tech ("Hi. My name is Peggy. This is Comcraptic."), gave him/her a copy of the tracert output. It seemed clear to me that a router was down or misconfigured. The "tech" had me send an email to somewhere else at Comcast to see if the IP was blocked. They responded that it was not. I didn't bother contacting them again. In about three weeks the problem cleared up. I don't think that I had a DNS issue because it seemed to resolve to the correct IP address so my problem may have not been the same.

Lathum, finketr posted some IP addresses you could use to set for your DNS servers.
By default, you will automatically be assigned DNS servers. But if you manually enter values you'll use those instead of getting the automatic ones. The manual DNS settings should hopefully resolve to the right IP address, which would allow you to get operationsports.com correctly. If you need some help configuring this, send me a PM and I'll see if we can find time this weekend when we are both online to try and get this going. |

8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 are google's public dns servers.

not being obtuse but that still means nothing to me. As of this AM still can't get on, which isn't surprising since it was late Friday when I passed my IP address on to Ben. Gonna check when I get home and see if anythings changed. |

Just from prior experience in providing 3rd level support at TWC, there is little the company will do if the issue is outside of our network. Especially if it can't be replicated. Quote:
Check out this link Public DNS — Google Developers From there is a link on how to change your configuration to the Google DNS servers which may fix your issue if the problem you are having is DNS related. I would assume it isn't DNS related since when someone had you change your host file the issue didn't resolve. Have you confirmed the issue is happening in a different browser? Is there is a possibility that I can get you to paste, screen cap and post the trace route you did? |

In terms of the technical stuff, I did a tracert from Lathum's computer and from mine to compare results. The last hop prior to the operationsports.com server was different for us, and that is where Lathum's connection failed. DNS wasn't in play; I did try changing DNS servers, but in both cases Lathum's connection died on the hope before the OS.com server. And since the tracert showed it failing I never explored alternate browsers. I passed on those results to Ben, who had 1-2 other folks from OS look into issue. The response times across the board from Ben/OS were exceptionally quick. Glad to hear that Lathum is back in business. |

Re-reading this is kind of funny. Well, funny if you were someone who deals with networking and had previously just skimmed the thread. "network layer" isn't OSI model network layer, but what appears to be the hosting company for Operation Sports. On my tracert, hops #9-13 all have an address ending with .networklayer.com. |
