Windows 8 Sucks
That is all...
Okay, last laptop died. Picked up a new one and this one has Windows 8. WTF?!?! If I wanted a f***ing tablet I would have bought a f***ing tablet. This operating system is a PoS.

Thanks, that may help cut down my vile hatred for this operating system some.

I actually like Windows 8 a lot better than Vista.

If I am using Start 8, I like Windows 8 better than Windows 7.
The start screen sucks, but if you completely bypass the start screen, a lot of the under the hood changes make the operating system run much better than 7. Last edited by Ryan S : 04-27-2013 at 05:08 AM. |

I prefer Win 8 to Win 7, although both are really good (and above OS X) in my opinion.

Agreed. One thing I like is how transferring files seems to be a good deal faster in 8. I also heard that the start menu will make a comeback in Service Pack 1. |

Let me say this, if they can return the feel of Window 7 to it I would like it better.

I agree with this. The under the hood stuff in Win8 is top notch, but the Metro (or Modern) UI ruins it for me. If Windows Blue (SP1 or whatever they call it) makes it so I can boot to the desktop and returns the Windows 7 type start menu, I would dramatically change my opinion on Windows 8. |

I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8 also. HUGE learning curve. It's just not intuitive after using prior versions for so long. At one point, I had to google "how to shut down with Windows 8".

I stumbled across a lot of Windows 8 help when I tried to put my mouse in the bottom left corner and accidentally right clicked instead of the reflexive left click.

End of year Windows Blue will hit the public sector. It will offer all the plusses of the Windows7 interface....if you want that. I will assume that the "UI metro as a force default" design team got shit canned over that decision.

Likely not, as they'll continue to lead people more and more to the Metro UI with features and touch laptops become more standard and Win9 has a Metro as force default again.
I mean MS tends to do these things - launch something "early" - roll it back slightly when people complain, but make people gradually accept it and make it standard (while releasing it again, and people go crazy happy about it - see Vista & Win7).

I agree, but it is what it is. Ultimately, I love the design decision to make the Computer UI look like the tablet UI look like the phone UI look like the XBOX UI...I just hate that I have to love the decision right now.
But that last piece...the XBOX UI...that will one day get the younger generations to lead the charge to this UI being "the norm" while us old sticks in the mud complain about something as ridiculous as an archaic "start button". |

Found a way to do it but it was a pain, so I did that same Google Search. Before that I was going back to the Home screen, Logging out, then you get an option to Shut Down. |

I think that long term, we're just heading towards touchscreens being standard on desktops as tablets and laptops become more and more prominent. That's already happening.

Maybe it is because I am an old fart, but I don't want to touch the screen of my laptop or desktop. I can't stand the touchscreen on my android phone, but I understand why it is better than trying to slap a keyboard and mouse on those things. For a daily use PC, my mouse and keyboard are fine. Seems like companies have been trying to turn computers into touch screens for 20+ years. I just don't get it. I compare it to 3-D TV.

I HATE the touchscreen. Even shopping for a new cell phone now and my first filter is NO touchscreen, give me the full physical qwerty keyboard please.
Old Man Syndrome I guess. It's happening earlier than I imagined. |

I think touch screens are easily a better interface on any and all mobile devices, from small to large. Don't ever see myself wanting one on my stationary workstation though.
