April's Premier Batter Announced

When Ramón Hernández stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Baltimore left fielder posted a .413 batting average with 6 home runs, 24 RBIs and scored 21 runs. Hernández also worked pitchers for 9 walks to post a .446 on-base percentage.


Great April Gets López RL Best Hitter Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 28-year-old Pedro López put together a solid offensive month for Ann Arbor and was crowned April's top batter in the Republic League.

He batted .337 with 9 home runs, 25 RBIs and 21 runs scored.

Continental League Announces #1 Starter

Veteran Zéphirin Lebrun put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Apex Assassins, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Lebrun racked up a 4-0 record in 5 starts, posting a 0.51 ERA over 35.1 innings and striking out 28.


RL's Top Pitcher in April Is Murakami

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Tomohiko Murakami still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 33-year-old starter for Ann Arbor was named Republic League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and no losses with 32 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.96 ERA in 46 innings of work.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

Bruce Dickson's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Noblesville left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .455 with 11 doubles, 2 triples and 3 home runs. Dickson also scored 18 times and drove in 22 runs.

Andrés Sánchez was toddling around on his tricycle when some of the guys he's playing against were in their prime, but the 24-year-old center fielder definitely knows how to get to first, second or beyond. Today he was chosen April's Republic League Rookie of the Month for his remarkable month of hitting.

In 27 games Sánchez batted .284 for Atlanta, slapping 31 hits in 109 at-bats with 5 home runs, drove in 23 runs and scored 20 times.

In the last year of his deal with Brooklyn, Carlos Martínez has created some waves by winning May's Continental League Batter of the Month title today.

He put up a solid .379 batting average with 3 home runs, 15 RBIs and 21 runs scored. He also worked CL pitchers for 12 walks and a .438 on-base percentage.

If he keeps churning out numbers like these, the 28-year-old is sure to draw some attention, when contract time rolls around.

Red-Hot May Lands Stewart Batting Prize in RL

The premier hitter in the Republic League in May was Hammersmith third baseman Randall Stewart. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month.

CL's Top Starter is Stagg

Cory Stagg's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 5-0 in May, the 28-year-old Napa Valley hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 36 in 45.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.97 and allowed opponents to hit .137 against him.

In 14 starts this season Stagg has rung up a 8-0 record and a 2.07 ERA.


Rancheros Deleón May's #1 Pitcher

Miguel Deleón took a much-deserved turn in the spotlight earlier today as he accepted the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for May.

The 23-year-old Rancheros starter is a relative newcomer to the league, but nonetheless racked up an impressive 4-0 won-lost record in 5 starts. This month he fanned 20 batters in 39 innings and compiled a 3.00 ERA.

So far this year Deleón has made 10 starts, tossed 75.1 innings, struck out 43 batters and walked 17. His record is 5-0 with a 2.87 ERA and he has limited opposing teams to a .228 batting average.

May's Best Rookie Named by CL

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Stan Johnson just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 23-year-old right fielder for Napa Valley hit .324 with 35 hits, 1 home run and 7 runs batted in. He also logged 8 walks and compiled a .376 on-base percentage.

Johnson is hitting .254 this season with 3 home runs, 18 RBIs and 24 runs scored. He has 53 hits in 209 at-bats.

Nick Maddox earned May's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Hartford first baseman might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Brooklyn Brownstones 26-year-old shortstop John Somers hit his way to a .394 batting average and the Continental League Batter of the Month award in June.

He had 8 home runs, 23 RBIs and 22 runs scored for the month.

On the year Somers has hit .359 with 20 home runs, 61 RBIs and scored 54 runs.


RL Honors Vargas, Best Hitter in June

Manolo Vargas of the Toronto Marlboros stood out in June with a .360 batting average against Republic League pitchers to land him the Batter of the Month award.

The 28-year-old left fielder totaled 7 home runs, 14 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He also chipped in 11 walks for a .420 on-base percentage.

This year Vargas is batting .305 with 13 home runs and 43 RBIs.

Gonzáles Best CL Starter

An outstanding 4-0 record in June earned José Gonzáles the Pitcher of the Month Award in the Continental League. When his name was penciled in to start on the Brooklyn lineup card, it meant trouble for opposing teams.

In 39 innings of work, Gonzáles limited opposing batters to 39 base hits and a .267 batting average. He notched 25 strikeouts, issued 5 walks and had a 2.08 ERA.

In 17 starts this year Gonzáles has fashioned a 11-2 record and a 1.87 ERA.


RL Selects Kipkoech June's Best Pitcher

Mubale Kipkoech took home the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors in June. After all these years playing ball, the 35-year-old veteran still enjoys the game as though he'd just broken camp for the first time a month ago. He's a bit older now with a few more aches and pains, but the old man has reason to celebrate, having gone 5-0 for Atlanta last month and claiming the Pitcher of the Month award.

He tacked up a 2.15 ERA in his 5 starts, tossing 37.2 innings and striking out 25.

So far this season, Kipkoech has logged a 9-4 record with a 3.25 ERA. He has started 17 games, hurled 110.2 innings and registered 66 strikeouts and 35 walks.

Vázquez Voted CL's #1 Rookie

Youngster Pepe Vázquez emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Apex deserved the honor, batting .327 with no home runs and 16 runs batted in. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Vázquez enjoy the limelight.

Looking at his season stats, Vázquez has compiled a .264 batting average and a .326 on-base percentage, while hitting no home runs and driving in 28 runs.

Peralta July's Best Bat Choice

The hard-hitting left fielder from Apex, Francisco Peralta, wielded a big bat in July and was hailed as the Continental League Batter of the Month.

He hit a healthy .343 with 5 home runs, 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This season Peralta is batting .304 with 19 home runs. He has scored 78 runs and driven in 73.


Vélez Takes Best Bat Award in July

Hartford shortstop Alfonso Vélez certainly turned heads in July with some impressive numbers. He batted .396 for the month and was voted the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He banged 3 home runs, collected 12 RBIs, scored 18 times and put up a .509 on-base percentage.

Thus far this year Vélez is hitting .310 with 4 home runs, 42 RBIs and 59 runs scored.

Baltimore's Johnston Top Pitcher in July

No doubt about it!
Baltimore starter Wynn Johnston earned his Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.
He made that very clear as he mowed his way through league hitters in July.
During the month Johnston chalked up a 5-0 record with a 1.01 ERA.

The Gothams star made 5 starts and surrendered 22 hits in 35.2 innings. He struck out 25 and walked 9.

In 22 starts this season Johnston has chalked up a 11-3 record and a 2.21 ERA.


Pineda Collects RL Pitching Award

Víctor Pineda's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in July, the 32-year-old Atlanta hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 9 in 42 innings, logged an ERA of 0.86 and allowed opponents to hit .208 against him.

Over the season Pineda has thrown 138.1 innings and dished out 58 strikeouts with a 8-8 mark and a 4.49 ERA.

Hot-hitting Luis Tobías of the Cleveland Cyclones garnered the Rookie of the Month honors for July in the Continental League.

August was a magical month for Zéphirin Lebrun of Apex. He held the Continental League hitters spellbound, conjuring up a 5-1 mark and a 0.62 ERA.

Lebrun also chalked up 6 starts, 43.2 innings and 50 strikeouts.

For this outstanding performance he was rewarded with the Pitcher of the Month trophy.

This season-to-date, Lebrun has fashioned a 14-4 mark and 2.37 ERA in 155.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .210 against him and he has logged 141 strikeouts.

Omaha Bees starter Manuel Rivas has collected the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances.

"This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said Rivas. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down."

In August the 34-year-old compiled a 4-1 record in 5 starts with a 0.84 ERA. He threw 42.2 innings, fanning 16 while walking 2.

This season Rivas has fanned 75 in 202 innings and collected a 10-11 record with a 3.39 ERA.
