Veteran José Gonzáles put together quite a successful stretch in April for the Brooklyn Brownstones, earning himself the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

Gonzáles racked up a 5-1 record in 6 starts, posting a 2.72 ERA over 39.2 innings and striking out 35.


April's Best RL Hurler is Salas

Lorenzo Salas's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-1 in April, the 32-year-old Hammersmith hurler has been named Republic League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 42 in 43.1 innings, logged an ERA of 1.04 and allowed opponents to hit .216 against him.

Continental League Names Rookie of Month

A veritable toddler to the Continental League, Dionísio Vick just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for April.

Over the past month the 23-year-old catcher for Cleveland hit .274 with 29 hits, 7 home runs and 21 runs batted in. He also logged 7 walks and compiled a .336 on-base percentage.

Juan Contreras earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Republic League for last month's performance. The boyish Hammersmith right fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Great May Gets Sugiura CL Best Hitter Award

Isoruko Sugiura battered Continental League pitchers all May and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 28-year-old Sugiura told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 23 games, Sugiura hit .427 with 6 home runs, 17 RBIs and scored 17 runs.

This season Sugiura has delivered 63 hits in 175 at-bats for a .360 average with 12 home runs. He is getting on base at a .401 clip and his totals also include 39 RBIs and 32 runs scored. This year Sugiura has played in 48 games.

Fans, friends and family were cheering today when Andrés Sánchez received May's Republic League Batter of the Month Award.

Sánchez stung the ball all month, posting a .337 batting average with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

CL Selects Johnston May's #1 Pitcher

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Wynn Johnston still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in May. The 28-year-old starter for Noblesville was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 4 wins and no losses with 27 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 2.35 ERA in 38.1 innings of work.

Johnston has fashioned a 6-0 mark for the season, 2.33 ERA and thrown 73.1 innings in 11 starts. Opposing clubs are batting .226 against him.


Rivas RL's #1 Pitcher in May

It was a very good month for Manuel Rivas in May. The 37-year-old veteran starter for the Omaha Bees outpitched everybody -- young and old -- to claim the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award earlier today.

Rivas ran up a 5-0 record in his 5 starts during the month. In 37.2 innings he fanned 15 and recorded a 2.63 ERA.

This year Rivas has worked 82.2 innings with 30 strikeouts en route to a 7-3 record and 3.48 ERA.

Muñóz Gets May's Rookie Trophy

José Muñóz is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Cleveland hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .303 average with 33 hits, 8 home runs and 20 RBIs.

For the year Muñóz is batting .271 with 59 hits and 10 home runs. He has scored 28 times and driven in 30.

Stan Johnson has made a definite impact on the baseball world by snatching Continental League Batter of the Month honors for June.

In 27 games the Napa Valley batter hit .398 with 11 home runs, 25 RBIs and 28 runs scored.

In 83 games this season Johnson has compiled a .345 batting average with 115 hits and 19 home runs. He has also scored 62 times and knocked in 56 runs.


Buckley Wins Best Bat Award in June

The Republic League Batter of the Month has been chosen for June and the trophy was presented to Justin Buckley of the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines.

He stood out this month with a .394 batting average, 39 hits and 8 home runs, along with 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

This season Buckley has hit 17 home runs and posted a .302 batting average.

Lerma Earns CL Top Pitcher Trophy

When Emílio Lerma takes the hill, he's a good bet to nail down the victory for the Napa Valley Winemakers. At least that's the way it was in May.

He excelled with a 5-0 mark and 2.03 ERA in 7 starts. In 44.1 innings, he fanned 29 and walked 8.
That's why he was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Continental League.

Lerma has started 18 times this year, pitched 116.2 innings, fanned 88 batters and walked 19. His current record is 6 wins and 5 losses with a 2.39 ERA.


RL #1 Pitcher in June is Tokyo's Tremblay

Noah Tremblay dazzled opponents on his way to the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for June.

Posting a 4-2 record and a 2.47 ERA, the Tokyo Catfish starter held opposing hitters to a .193 batting average while striking out 28 in 47.1 innings and giving up 6 walks.

To this point in the season Tremblay has 9 wins and 7 losses and a 2.53 ERA.

José Muñóz Triumphs in CL Rookie Vote

Youngster José Muñóz emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Cleveland deserved the honor, batting .280 with 4 home runs and 11 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Muñóz enjoy the limelight.

So far this year, Muñóz is batting .274 with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs.

None of the pitchers could figure him out last month. Juan Contreras was pure poison to them, lashing out hits with in such abundance he was voted the latest Republic League Rookie of the Month.

In June he hit the ball at a .284 clip, popping off 27 hits and 2 home runs with 16 RBIs and scoring 21 runs.

Hammersmith opponents have to be thinking about pitching around this guy until he cools off a bit.

Contreras on the season is hitting .322 with 5 home runs. His stats include 43 RBIs and 49 runs scored.

FOOL News: The All-Star Game Rosters Have Been Announced

The Continental League All-Stars versus the Republic League All-Stars. It happens every year halfway through the season. It's a baseball spectacle for the fans and the players alike. It's the 2211 Front Office Offseason League All-Star Game. The fans get to see all their favorite stars perform in the same game, and the outstanding players get to play against each other. CL Announces Outstanding Batter Award

In July, Isoruko Sugiura let his bat do the talking for him. The Brooklyn left fielder smacked the ball at a .372 average as he laid claim to the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

He rapped 8 home runs, drove in 24 and scored 13 runs.

During the current season Sugiura is batting at a .334 clip with 22 home runs and 79 RBIs. He has played in 99 games and scored 51 times.


RL Best Hitter Award to Atlanta's Ramón Hernández

The Republic League Batter of the Month has been picked for July and the honor goes to the Atlanta Indians Ramón Hernández.

He compiled a .312 batting average with 34 hits and 8 home runs, along with 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored.

So far this season Hernández has gotten 137 hits in 435 at-bats for a .315 batting average with 22 home runs. His stats include 81 RBIs and 84 runs scored. He has played in 108 games.

Continental League Picks Best Starter in July

Josh Cowan of Apex had an outstanding July with a 4-0 mark and was chosen the Pitcher of the Month in the Continental League.

He topped off the month with a 1.00 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 36 innings, fanned 29 and held opposing teams to a .155 average.

Cowan has posted a 7-4 record for the year with a 2.57 ERA. Teams are hitting .215 against him and he has rung up 130 strikeouts in 143.1 innings.


July's Best Hurler in RL is González

António González hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Republic League Pitcher of the Month. But when you put up numbers like his, you're going to get some notice.

In July the Ann Arbor starter earned a 4-0 mark in 5 starts. He threw 33 innings, struck out 22 and compiled a solid 2.45 ERA.

This year González has worked 120.1 innings with 65 strikeouts en route to a 9-8 record and a 3.81 ERA.

Rookie Swinger Scores Big in July

The premier first-year player in the Continental League last month was Bob Carswell. Halifax's left fielder put up some big-time numbers in July to haul in the Rookie of the Month Award.

Carswell hit at a .346 clip while collecting 5 home runs, 19 RBIs and scoring 15 runs in 23 games.

So far in 2211 Carswell is batting .269 with 13 home runs, 53 RBIs and 52 runs scored. He has 97 hits in 360 at-bats and a .350 OBP.


Contreras Earns RL Rookie of Month

What a month for Juan Contreras! He finished it hitting .353 and took home the Republic League Rookie of the Month award.

His monthly totals included a .418 on-base percentage, 30 hits, 1 home run, 13 RBIs and 13 runs scored.

Relief Ace Cops #1 Pitcher Award in August

Enrique Marino is at the zenith of his career and today he was selected as the Continental League Pitcher of the Month for August.

He made 15 relief appearances for Noblesville last month, throwing 15.1 innings and collecting 13 saves, a 1-1 record, 9 strikeouts and a 1.17 ERA.

This year Noblesville reliever Marino has made 64 relief appearances and has 42 saves. His record is 7-2 with 42 strikeouts in 69.1 innings and a 2.08 ERA.

If he continues to outpace the rookie class like this, he could very well be the 2211 Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award winner.
