How much did you spend on your mattress?

I am just kind of curious what the folks of FOFC spent on mattress and what they have and how they like it. I actually work for Mattress Firm and I never would have thought I'd be interested in this info but I am.

Also does anyone around these parts have an adjustable base that allows you to sit up and watch TV or read? (there are health benefits too, but I don't want to sound too much like a salesman)

I have a memory foam mattress and love it. My quest is to now find the most comfortable pillow in the world.

I think I spent about 5-600 on tge Emory foam I got from amazon. It's still really comfy. I can't see it lasting as long as something expensive but I didn't have a bunch of cash sitting around and didn't want to finance.

when you find one please let me know. I've been on a search for a very soft pillow that actually stays soft for more than a day or two for a long time now.

I will definitely spread the word when I find it.

I know what you mean. You go to sleep on a pillow and wake up with a pancake under your head.

Also, yes I have one of those adjustable bases. It is fabulous.

Bought a Serta iComfort from Mattress Firm actually. Can't say we love it but we don't hate it. I think we wish we had gone ahead and just sprung for the Tempur-Pedic.

I figure people spend 1/3 to 1/4 of their life in their beds. Seems only logical that's somewhere to spend some higher coin.

This was my thought as well.

Got ours for $780ish 14 years ago. One of the best purchases I've made and memorable buying process too (but I'll leave that out).

I think mine was around $300 - it was a Mattress Firm 4th of July deal. I love it!

Man what a timely thread. I really, really want a new mattress.

I spent about $600 or 650 I think for a king about 5 years ago. Not the highest quality but just needed something to get us by for a few years. I think my frame to the king is all screwed up & probably need to just get a new bed altogether but have been debating what type of bed (and theres the problem of me being cheap).

We paid something in the $300-$500 range for a pillowtop mattress from The Dump a few years ago and it's been great. We're worried that when this one wears out, and it will in the next few years, we won't be able to find one that has lasted as long and been as comfortable.

I have a traditional spring mattress. Bought through a friend who works at a huge foam company that supplies somthing like 70% of the inner foam to all the mattress makers (Foamex is the company)

Any how I think we gave $300 for a Queen and $350 for the King. The tags on each say $1,100 and $1,400 respectively which is cheap for a mattress "sticker" price.

Several times Ive started down the nice mattress route but just cant see the return being worth it.

Id rather take a great weekend get away for $2,500 than buy a bed.

Here is an awesome, soft memory foam pillow. Not sure how the haggling goes from the internet, but the pillow is getting discontinued and we are selling them much cheaper in store.

Edited to add that I have several of these expensive pillows and this is the one I always come back to.
Second edit to add that these pillows cost us right around $46 (after a cost concession since it's being discontinued)

Below is something I posted on reddit a little while back..

I sell mattresses. Here are tips on getting the best deals and having a good experience.
  • Be willing to leave
  • Be willing to have a conversation (honesty makes things easier for everyone) and treat the associate with respect
  • Shopping at the end of the month (end of period) can net you a great deal as associates are attempting to hit budgets (probably not everywhere).
  • Buy from someone you feel comfortable with and a reputable place
  • Be willing to lay on the beds - don't make it awkward

I always am giving the nicest of people the best deal, and those are probably the people I could take advantage of. If you are willing to have an honest conversation with the person helping you, you will save time and money. I can't stress this last point enough - with mattresses you truly get what you pay for.

edit -- the respect works both ways. Buy from a sales PROFESSIONAL

$500 memory foam from ebay.

That's now in storage until I get a permanent residence.

Currently, $40 air mattress from Craigslist (+ $5 patch kit)

I bought the Heavenly Bed from the Westin Hotel online store. Been 10 years now and it is still just as good as when I got it.
