Godspeed Dick Enberg
Wife is reporting that Dick Enberg passed away today from a heart attack. Absolutely positively one of the greatest of all time.
One of a handful of announcers that I remember vividly from my childhood, and I'm no young man, either. As distinctive a voice as there ever was in broadcasting, you could just tell without hearing any stories that he was likely the nicest man who ever lived. Oh, my. Wonderful announcer. Obvious ones for me like Scully and Hearn or Al Michaels always come up for me first when I think of announcers, which underscores to me how perfectly understated and ever present Enberg was. He wasn't a guy you put all these accolades on like those others. He was just always consistently perfect and unassuming. I'll miss hearing his voice on the TV.

This is a sad one, a voice that I remember from my earliest days following sports. One of the legends, RIP.

Bummed me out too. In part because I started thinking about how differently my kids will hear the game than I did. Some of my earliest memories are pretending to be Howard Cosell, the Carays, Vin Scully, and in Georgia Munson and Ciraldo. I don't think that happens today. RIP to Enberg and an era.

Could listen to him read the phonebook. One of those announcers who made every game he did special just by his voice alone. But hey, we still have Joe Buck.
