Mariners Finalize Roster Ahead of Opener

Seattle - After back to back 90 win seasons, and a run to the ALDS last season. The Seattle Mariners feel like now is the time to take their young roster to the next level. AL Rookie of the Year Julio Rodríguez looks to make the leap to MVP candidate, and carry this team with a solid starting rotation, clutch bullpen, and some sluggers up, and down the lineup to places they've never been before. Castillo Leaves Early, but Mariners Take Opener

Teoscar Hernández blasts a three-run home run in the fifth inning.

Seattle - The most anticipated Mariner's season in recent history got off to a scary start Thursday night in Seattle. The Mariners staff ace Luis Castillo was pulled from the game early in the third inning after it was clear he was laboring with his command. The Mariners say it's a neck strain for Castillo, and are unsure whether or not he'll have to hit the IL. It put a damper on what was a solid opening night victory for the M's. Newcomer Teoscar Hernández busted the game wide open in the fifth inning with a three run home run to center. Showing off the power the Mariners hope solidifies the middle of their lineup. Seattle's bullpen held on for a 7-4 win getting the 2023 season off on the right foot. The two teams are back in action tomorrow with the Mariners sending Robbie Ray (12-12, 3.71 ERA) to the mound to face Triston McKenzie (11-11, 2.96)

Déjá vu for Mariners with 7-4 Win

Seattle - For the second straight night the Mariners starter had to exit early, and once again the offense, and bullpen carried them to a 7-4 win for the second straight night over the Cleveland Guardians. Cal Raleigh had the big hit for Seattle blasting a two run home run in the fifth to break the game open. Paul Sewald locked it down in the ninth for his second save. The two teams continue the series tomorrow evening when Cal Quantrill (15-5, 3.38 ERA) takes the hill for Cleveland against Logan Gilbert (13-6, 3.20 ERA).

Gilbert Shuts Down Guardians as Mariners Move to 3-0

Logan Gilbert struck out the side in the ninth for the shutout.

Seattle - After digging deep into the pen in the first two games the Mariners needed Logan Gilbert to eat some innings. He responded by eating all nine of them for a complete game two-hit shut out, and the Mariners remained undefeated to start the year with a 5-0 win over the Cleveland Guardians. Eugenio Suárez led the offense with two RBI's while Julio Rodríguez connected for his first home run of the season. The Mariners will try and get the rare four game sweep tomorrow when they send Marco Gonzales (10-15, 4.13 ERA) to the mound to face Aaron Civale (5-6, 4.92 ERA).

Mariners Take First Loss in Finale 8-1

Seattle - Steven Kwan had a big day at the plate with a triple, home run, and four RBI's as the Mariners suffered their first defeat of the season falling 8-1 to the Cleveland Guardians. Aaron Civale shut down a Mariners offense that lit up Cleveland in the first three games of the season to get his first win, while Marco Gonzales suffered the loss despite the quality start. Seattle is back in action t-, omorrow welcoming the undefeated LA Angels to town. It will be George Kirby (8-5, 3.39 ERA) taking the mound against Reid Detmers (7-6, 3.77 ERA)

Mariner Rally Falls Short in 6-5 Defeat

Shohei Ohtani blasts one of the Angels four second inning home runs.

Seattle - The Angels hit four home runs in the second inning, including back-to-back-to-back shots from the 1, 2, 3 hitters Ward, Trout, and Ohtani. Then held on late as the Mariners rally fell short of a comeback in a 6-5 loss. Ty France had four RBI's in the losing effort including a two run shot that opened the scoring in the first inning. It was a rough outing for George Kirby who only lasted 3.1 innings in this one. The two teams are back in action tomorrow with José Suárez (8-8, 3.96 ERA) taking the mound against Luis Castillo (0-0, 3.86 ERA) making his second start of the year.

Angels Play HR Derby Again in 9-0 Romp

Seattle - The LA Angels hit four home runs for the second straight night, and the Seattle offense could muster just two hits as they fell easily to the Angels 9-0. The big blow came in the second inning where Luis Castillo was hammered, he could not record an out in the inning before Brand Drury touched him up for a grand slam that broke the game open early. Max Stassi followed that with a solo shot and Luis was in the showers early once again in his rough start to the season. José Suárez was magnificent for the Angels going seven innings allowing just one hit and striking out seven. The Mariners will try to avoid the sweep tomorrow, and it will be no easy task as they go up against Shohei Ohtani (0-0, 4.50 ERA). Seattle will counter with Robbie Ray (0-0, 0.00 ERA).

Mariners Rally to Take Finale 10-7

Seattle - The Mariners needed a late rally, but they were able to overtake the Angels 10-7 on Wednesday afternoon to salvage the finale of their three game series. Things looked bleak after a three run homer by Anthony Rendon made it 5-0 in the fifth, but Tommy La Stella answered with a solo shot in the bottom half that seemed to give the Mariners life. Still they trailed 7-3 in the seventh inning before Teoscar Hernández came up with a huge two out grand slam off Shohei Ohtani to even things up at seven a piece. Cal Raleigh and Cooper Hummel came up with clutch RBI singles in the eighth and Paul Sewald was able to come in and get his third save of the season. The Mariners will have an off day tomorrow as they travel for their first road trip of the season. Starting Friday in Cleveland. It will be Cal Quantrill (0-1, 16.88 ERA) on the hill for the Guardians taking on Logan Gilbert (1-0, 0.00 ERA).

M's Squander Win in Extras to Guardians

Josh Bell drives in the game winning run in extras.

Cleveland - Things looked all good for Seattle after a three run top of the 11th had them looking like they had a win wrapped up, but Paul a two-run triple by Amed Rosario tied things up in the bottom half, then Josh Bell walked it off with a two out RBI single, and the Mariners suffered a stunning 8-7 loss to the Guardians. J.P. Crawford had a big day on offense with three hits including his first home run of the season, but it wasn't enough. The Mariners have lost three of four, and will look to bounce back tomorrow when they send Marco Gonzales (0-1, 4.50 ERA) to the mound to take on Aaron Civale (1-0, 1.13 ERA).

Crawford Comes Up Clutch in Mariners 5-3 Win

J.P. Crawford hits a three run home run in the ninth inning.

Cleveland - With two outs in the top half of the ninth inning facing the best closer in the AL in 2022 things looked bleak for the Mariners, but J.P. Crawford was as smooth as could be, as he launched a three run home run to give the Mariners an improbable lead, and Andrés Muñoz locked down the save as Seattle got a big 5-3 win to put them back above .500 on the season. Cleveland took the lead after a two RBI single by Amed Rosario in the sixth. Seattle couldn't get anything going against the Cleveland bullpen until the ninth when they touched up Clase. The rubber match of the three game series is tomorrow. Cleveland will send Zach Plesac (1-0, 3.86 ERA) to the mound to take on George Kirby (0-1, 16.20 ERA).

Mariners Take Series as Kirby Shuts Down Guardians

Cleveland - After a shaky first start of the season Mariners pitcher George Kirby flipped the script on Cleveland, going the distance allowing five hits as the M's got a 5-0 shut out win over the Guardians on Sunday. Julio Rodríguez homered for the second straight day, and Ty France went deep as well to pace the Mariners offense. Seattle will head to Chicago tonight where they begin a three game series at Wrigley Field against the Cubs starting tomorrow. It will be Luis Castillo (0-1, 16.20 ERA) taking on Hayden Wesneski (0-0, 2.25 ERA).

Suárez Clubs Two Homers in Mariners Win

Chicago - Eugenio Suárez blasted two home runs, and Luis Castillo put together a quality start for his first win of the season as the Mariners won their third straight 9-3 over the Cubs. Castillo struck out eight in his seven innings of work shaking off his rough first couple outings of the season. J.P. Crawford continued his recent run of clutch hitting as well picking up two more RBI's to bring his total to ten on the young season. The two teams are back in action tomorrow with a great pitching matchup as Robbie Ray (0-0, 6.75 ERA) takes on Marcus Stroman (1-1, 2.57 ERA).

Mariners Win Fourth Straight Behind Wong, Rodríguez

Chicago - Kolten Wong hit two homeruns, and Julio Rodríguez checked in with four RBI's as the Mariners out slugged the Cubs 11-7 to take the second game of their three game series at Wrigley Field. The two teams went back and forth throughout this one trading blows, but in the eighth inning Wong, and Rodríguez delivered the final blows, each clubbing a two run home run that put the nail in the coffin for the Cubs. The Mariners will try for the series sweep, and their fifth straight win tomorrow with Logan Gilbert (1-0, 1.29 ERA) getting the ball for the Mariners against Jameson Tallion (1-1, 4.50 ERA).

Mariners Fall in Finale 10-1

Dansby Swanson hits a two run homer in the first inning.

Chicago - The Mariners failed to get the three game sweep in Wrigley on Wednesday. Logan Gilbert had a rough outing giving up five runs, and the Mariner offense was held in check in a 10-1 loss to the Cubs. Diego Castillo got shelled in the eighth inning giving up any hope for a comeback as he got touched up for five runs including a three run shot by former Mariner Patrick Wisdom. Seattle will get an off day tomorrow to travel home before beginning a three game series against the Colorado Rockies on Friday. The scheduled starters in that one are Marco Gonzales (0-1, 4.63 ERA) facing Austin Gomber (1-1, 3.75 ERA).
