Hey everyone- going to start posting my legacy on CH2k8 with North Carolina State. Just to lay the ground work and fill you in, the way I set this legacy up was I reset my roster, then simulated four seasons so I would have a fresh batch of players on my team and in the NCAA. All of the current players on NC State were now recruited by me, which looking at my team is not something to brag about..

The next post will be meet the team, with my schedule included.

Midseason I am going to do an ACC team report, because I feel it will be more interesting for you as a reader if you know the story lines in the ACC, like who the superstar is, the rising freshman, the lights out shooters, etc. Should make the write-ups more interesting.

Meet The Team

NC State Wolfpack: 2011-12 Roster

PG: D.C. Mallory [78], 5'8 Sophomore: Mallory is a nice asset to have running the helm. With a lights out three and one of the fastest speeds on the team, Mallory presents a matchup threat for multiple purposes. Slower point guards will have a hard time keeping up with him, especially on the press, and he will constantly need to be face guarded to ensure he does not get any open looks from behind the arc. His height will definitely be a problem for any kind of isolation scoring, unfortunately.
SG: Brahn Hamilton [76], 6'6 Sophomore: Hamilton is definitely not the guy you dream about when thinking of a SG to put on your team when trying to contend for an ACC title. A decent three point shooter being his only source of offense, Hamilton should score off his defense a majority of the time, with quick stealing hands and the highest speed on the team.
SF: C.W. Laws [82], 6'7 Senior: The first player that I signed in this dynasty, Laws continues the trend of high three point shooting, and rounds out the perimeter players for us. Laws in an extremely athletic specimen who should be an electrifying finisher for the fast breaks presented by his guards. Laws is also the best defender on the team, and will be constantly handed the task of shutting down the ACC superstars. His senior year looks to be a good one.
PF: Jameel Lamkin [83], 6'8 Junior: A good close range scorer and decent rebounder, Lamkin's overall may be inflated thanks to good awareness on defense. A decent midrange shot will draw some attention, and defensively he will be able to stop most big men that play around his size. Lamkin could have a stellar year in the half court, when the perimeter players slow it down and work it inside.
C: Sam Norman [78], 7'1 Sophomore: Sam Norman is exactly what you would expect from a 7'1 white boy. He is clumsy, tall, and not the best finisher around the basket, when forced to more then just simply rise up and dunk. He is a solid post defender, but low athleticism and blocking ability will effect him, if not made up for by his height. Size alone should help Norman have some strong performances this season.

Bench:
SF: Jacob Dearmon [76], 6'6 Freshman: The most time of any freshman on the team will be allotted to Jacob, and for good reason. A decent jumper is much of what he can boast on offense, but Dearmon is another player capable of running the break and causing fast breaks with his fast hands. Stats will probably be low, but I expect the intangibles to be high.
SG: Robby Pena [76], 6'4 Sophomore: Another solid shooter is to be had from this undersized two guard, but he also presents a threat as one of the best perimeter defenders on the team. Dominant combo guards beware, because odds are you will be seeing Robby Pena at a high frequency.
C: Kevan Hendricks [74], 6'11 Senior: As a senior, it hurts to hear 8th man, but as a lower 3*, Hendricks barely had a chance. Although Hendricks severely lacks in a lot of essentials, one thing to be said about him is he is incredibly strong, and may see time at PF to showcase his strength against smaller forwards.
PF: Aly Hickman [73], 6'8 Freshman: Hickman shows true promise, and it reflects in his playing time. Still developing, he has a solid post game and couples that with a good vertical and decent size. He also is one of the best shot blockers oon the team, so that plays as a large advantage for the kid. In two years, Hickman is slated to start, and with A- potential, I think he will be ready.

Deep bench:
Cornell Madison [77]: Did not recruit, so he won't play
Raitis Reeves [73]: The worse of two Fr PF, will be a career back up
Bill Cortez [73]: Soph SF presents an isolation threat, but not enough for playing time

The Wolfpack Take It To The Blue Hens
Coach ch2k8 wins season opener in blowout fashion

Wow. That would be the one word used for the offensive explosion showcased by North Carolina State in their first game of the 2011-12 season. The Wolfpack won in hugely convincing fashion, with a 95-67 annihilation. The team shot an unprecedented 42-57*, one of the most impressive offensive games in the history of the school. "Hopefully, we set the tone for the season," their head coach said, "We definitely have the pieces in place to have a strong season, and I hope this game proved it to everyone who doubted."

C.W. Laws started off his senior year in quite a dominant way, dropping 24 points, a career high. He shot 10-13 from the field, and hit all four of his three point attempts. "I was just feeling it today, and I got a lot of great looks at the basket thanks to great ball movement from everyone," he told press after the game.

Next up for NC State is Marist, in the first round of the Deodorant Classic, as the Pack looks to continue their early season success in a tournament that includes two Top 10 teams. "Definitely a tough tournament," commented point guard and team captain DC Mallory, "But hopefully we're up for the task."

Round 1 (Deodorant Classic) NC State vs. Marist

Disappointment Ensues Early Tournament Exit
Turnovers and poor offense cost Wolfpack a shot at round 2

Marist through a wrench into things for NC State. Plans to matchup with other power conference schools seemed to be on the agenda for the Pack, maybe too much though. "We just overlooked the Marist game, and before you knew it we were down by 20 before the half," stated ch2k8, offering his explanation for a poor effort in the first half by his team. When the first buzzer sounded, signaling the end of the half, his team found themselves down 23-41, and shooting horrifically with tons of turnovers. The team finished with 14 turnovers, compared to an abysmal 7 assists. CW Laws contributed 7 of the turnovers himself.

When the second half started, a surgence of hope was found thanks to a strong start by captain DC Mallory (14 points, all in the 2nd half) but the team could not rally around his performance enough to put Marist away. "It definitely was an ugly game, and we are incredibly disappointed to no longer be competing for a championship in the tournament. However, it still goes on. We have a solid game on schedule still and hope to turn it around with that," the captain commented.

NC State's next matchup will be against Michigan (1-1) who took a loss in a tough tournament opener against Arkansas. Winner matches up against UAB in their final game of the tournament.

Round 2 (Deodorant Classic) NC State vs. Michigan

Two Headed Attack Lead Wolfpack to Victory
Senior CW Laws and Junior Jameel Lamkin dominate Michigan's young team

When two players combine for 49 points, it rarely ends well for the team that allows that production. Just ask Michigan (1-2). After seeing NC State (2-1) get beat down by Marist (2-0), Michigan would not have expected much of a challenge, but the young team got much more then they bargained for between the double-double of Jameel Lamkin (27 points, 11 rebounds) and the scoring of CW Laws (22 points). "We scored a lot, and we scored efficiently, and that's how you win games. Efficiency," said a smiley senior CJ Laws after the game. Lamkin and Laws combined to shoot 21-32 on the night, a product of the ability of Laws to get himself and others (5 assists) open.

Defensively, the Wolfpack shut down one of the best power forwards in the nation. Michigan's Douglas Ireland (4 points, 6 rebounds) was a preseason All American, and was averaging 15 points and 8 rebounds before his matchup with Jameel Larkin. "Its not everyday where you have the game of your life on offense and on defense, so I am just thrilled they both came on a winning day," Lamkin said afterwards. Lamkin as well as center Sam Norman were said to have designs in the 2nd round of the NBA draft, but draft experts are now listing both as undrafted, a relief to ch2k8 and NC State fans everywhere.

A game vs. UAB will finish the Deodorant Classic out for NC State, then they pack their bags to play Purdue before the recruit signing period. Word has it they are in a heated battle for Terrence Buchanan, the #4 recruit in the nation and #1 point guard. Rivals.com claims "Buchanan leans towards Georgia Tech, but NC State and Florida have legitimate chances to make the signing as well."

What Could Have Been
Blowout of UAB has fans wondering what happened against Marist

Champion of the Loser's Bracket really doesn't have the same ring too it. After the NC State Wolfpack (3-1) took it to the UAB Blazers (1-2), that was the realization they were forced to confront. Not only will not advancing in the tournament hurt fan approval and morale for the Pack, the second round and finals of the tournament would have strengthened their tournament resumé, when the time comes. "Well, winning against Marist would have seen us facing some better competition, but I think we learned a lot about our team thanks to that game. Got to get some of the kinks out," explained Coach ch2k8

Regardless, the Wolfpack made mince meat of UAB Sunday, defeating them 82-66, with NC State having their reserves se extended minutes do to the severity of the blow out, which was once at 26 points. Four players reached double digits, with an 18 point, 8 rebound effort from Sam Norman, and 17 additional points courtesy of CW Laws. Laws was one of only 2 starters to see 20 minutes of action in the blowout, along with captain DC Mallory. "It was a great team effort, we really buried them early then put the nail in the coffin with a strong start to the second half. We definitely learned from this tournament," the lone starting senior CW told reporters.

Arkansas (5-0) who defeated Marist in the second round, upset #10 Texas (3-1) for the Championship game of the Deodorant Classic on Sunday in convincing fashion, winning 88-65. Their two big man starters combined for forty points, and point guard Landon Jennings added an 19 points.

NC State's next matchup will be at Purdue, where they will face off the undefeated Boilmakers (4-0). A week later they will travel to Tulsa (3-0), another road game against an undefeated (as of now) opponent. "Champions win on the road," DC Mallory commented.
