MyLeague: Return of the Sonics

The NBA has decided to bring back the Super Sonics to Seattle, as an expansion team. Finally, basketball has come back to Seattle, starting with the expansion draft. The Sonics get the first pick in the 1st round of the 2015 draft. They would then shock everyone by taking Devin Booker with the first pick to start their team building process. Then, they had the expansion draft. In this draft, every NBA team was allowed to protect 10 players on their roster, and the rest were able to be drafted by the Sonics.

The players the Sonics were able to acquire through the expansion draft were: Doug McDermott, Russ Smith, Cleanthony Early, James Ennis, Kent Bazemore, Earl Clark, Boban Marjanociv, and Steve Novak. The Sonics would also acquire Point Guard Darren Collision via trade. They weren't done though. With a roster full of young talent, the Sonics wanted to bring in a veteran. Someone who could help these young players through the tough rebuilding process. A familiar face...

Ray Allen decided to come out of retirement to play one more year for the team that started it all for him, the Sonics.

So, going into opening day where the Sonics will play at home, hosting the LA Clippers, this will be their starting 5

PG: Darren Collison
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Devin Booker
PF: Steve Novak
C: Boban Marjanociv

We will see if the Sonics come out tough in their first game in front of these Seattle fans who will be highly anticipating the return of their beloved Sonics, in what will be an uphill battle of a year for sure.

Clippers Soar Past Sonics in Seattle's Home Opener, 102-76

In front of a packed Seattle crowd, the LA Clippers were able to pick up the easy win against the Sonics. It was a game in which Chris Paul dominated the game, scoring 28 points to go with 13 assists.

The Sonics showed the beginning of what will be a lot of growing pains. It seemed difficult for them to play as a unit for the entirety of the game, and the team was clearly lacking a lot of chemistry. Ray Allen left the game early in the first quarter with a minor ankle injury, which seemed to slow the Sonics offense down a good bit.

Devin Booker had a good first showing in the NBA, scoring 20 points on 8-12 shooting, but the rest of the offense seemed to struggle. Head Coach Wyatt Jones and his staff are going to have a difficult time getting this team ready to compete against anybody judging by this game. It very well looks like it will be a long season in a long rebuilding process

Re: MyLeague: Return of the Sonics

Sonics Off to Slow Start, But Show Some Promise

We're two and a half weeks into the NBA season, and the Sonics have yet to get a win, currently sitting at 0-9. While this is concerning, the bright side of it is that unlike what the home opener showed us, this team is starting to compete. In the 2nd game of the season, the Sonics fell just short to the Lakers in OT, as Kobe rekindled some old magic in the Overtime period, scoring 10 points himself in the OT. This 9 game streak also featured losing 105-114 to the Grizzlies, 99-120 to the Suns, 109-136 to the Rockets, 94-110 to the Spurs, 87-115 to the Pistons, and, once again, getting smashed by the Clippers 125-96.

Now, these scores may not seem encouraging, however, the team is clearly growing together, and it really showed in the Sonics last game, playing against the Warriors in hostile environment in Oracle arena. The Sonics were able to keep this game close into the final few minutes in the 4th, where, inevitably, the Warriors finally went on their run, outscoring the Sonics 20-6 in the closing moments to finish the game.

This game gives Sonics fans some hope in this team for this team of misfits to stand toe-to-toe with the defending NBA Champions, on the road.

The Sonics next test will be playing at home against the Brooklyn Nets. We will see if the Sonics can capture that elusive first victory.

Sonics Capture First Win, 99-94 vs. Nets

It was a hard fought game, and a tough 10 game stretch to start the season off for the Sonics, but the time has finally come. The Sonics were able to pull out the victory vs. Brooklyn in a tight, back and forth game, winning 99-94.

Boban Marjanovic led the way in scoring and rebounding for the Sonics, putting up 18 and 12, and adding 5 blocks as well. However, it was Ray Allen who made the difference in this game late. With just under 30 seconds left in the game, it was tied up, 94-94. The shot clock was winding down, and Devin Booker passed it up to Ray Allen at the top of the three point line, being guarded by Brooklyn's Joe Johnson. Allen got the ball, threw a mean pump fake, getting Johnson off his feet. Allen then leaned into Johnson, put up the shot, and earned the foul and three free throws. He would make all three.

On the Nets next possession, Joe Johnson looked to find room for a 3 point attempt, but was met by stellar defense by Ray Allen, who forced Johnson to chuck up a prayer for three, which didn't fall. Ray Allen would be intentionally fouled the next possession, putting him on the line, met by thunderous MVP! chants from this proud Seattle crowd. Allen would knock down both, and close the game.

"This is up there in my favorite moments in my career" Allen said in the post game press conference. "We give it our all for these fans, and this city. And when we're able to win a game like that at home, hearing those fans... it's special."

Allen, at 40 years young, will look to salvage this season as much as possible for the Sonics, knowing that it is likely his last.

Weekly Report; Sonics Get 2nd Win against Magic, Now Sit At 2-12

This week in Sonic's basketball featured 1 win and 3 losses, including the worst loss of the season to this point, falling 69-122 to the Hawks. Other scores included losing 93-117 to the Raptrs, 87-112 to the Heat, and finally winning against the Magic 122-103 on Saturday.

Steve Novak led the way in the win over the Magic, scoring 23 points on 5-11 shooting (5-10 3 point), and going 8-8 from the FT line.

The Sonics defense definitely came to play though, and that's what helped lead them to the win, holding the Magic to just 37% from the field. We will see if the Sonics can build on this win and perhaps put up a few more marks in the W column, currently sitting at 2-12 in the early season.

Sonics Now 5-17, Lose Ray Allen to Injury

The Sonics were able to tack on 3 more tallies in the Win column over the past couple weeks, beating the Timberwolves, Celtics, and Mavericks in the span. However, unfortunate news occurred as Ray Allen will be sidelined due to a torn muscle in his left calf. His recovery timetable is projected at 2-4 weeks.

The injury will put Doug McDermott into the starting lineup, and will undoubtedly put more pressure on Devin Booker to pick up the slack in scoring. Prior to the injury, Allen lead the team in points averaging 14.3 per game. Allen will definitely be missed in the Sonics starting lineup.
