    MyLeague: Return of the Sonics

The NBA has decided to bring back the Super Sonics to Seattle, as an expansion team. Finally, basketball has come back to Seattle, starting with the expansion draft. The Sonics get the first pick in the 1st round of the 2015 draft. They would then shock everyone by taking Devin Booker with the first pick to start their team building process. Then, they had the expansion draft. In this draft, every NBA team was allowed to protect 10 players on their roster, and the rest were able to be drafted by the Sonics.

The players the Sonics were able to acquire through the expansion draft were: Doug McDermott, Russ Smith, Cleanthony Early, James Ennis, Kent Bazemore, Earl Clark, Boban Marjanociv, and Steve Novak. The Sonics would also acquire Point Guard Darren Collision via trade. They weren't done though. With a roster full of young talent, the Sonics wanted to bring in a veteran. Someone who could help these young players through the tough rebuilding process. A familiar face...

Ray Allen decided to come out of retirement to play one more year for the team that started it all for him, the Sonics.

So, going into opening day where the Sonics will play at home, hosting the LA Clippers, this will be their starting 5

    PG: Darren Collison
    SG: Ray Allen
    SF: Devin Booker
    PF: Steve Novak
    C: Boban Marjanociv

We will see if the Sonics come out tough in their first game in front of these Seattle fans who will be highly anticipating the return of their beloved Sonics, in what will be an uphill battle of a year for sure.

Clippers Soar Past Sonics in Seattle's Home Opener, 102-76

In front of a packed Seattle crowd, the LA Clippers were able to pick up the easy win against the Sonics. It was a game in which Chris Paul dominated the game, scoring 28 points to go with 13 assists.

The Sonics showed the beginning of what will be a lot of growing pains. It seemed difficult for them to play as a unit for the entirety of the game, and the team was clearly lacking a lot of chemistry. Ray Allen left the game early in the first quarter with a minor ankle injury, which seemed to slow the Sonics offense down a good bit.

Devin Booker had a good first showing in the NBA, scoring 20 points on 8-12 shooting, but the rest of the offense seemed to struggle. Head Coach Wyatt Jones and his staff are going to have a difficult time getting this team ready to compete against anybody judging by this game. It very well looks like it will be a long season in a long rebuilding process

Sonics Off to Slow Start, But Show Some Promise

We're two and a half weeks into the NBA season, and the Sonics have yet to get a win, currently sitting at 0-9. While this is concerning, the bright side of it is that unlike what the home opener showed us, this team is starting to compete. In the 2nd game of the season, the Sonics fell just short to the Lakers in OT, as Kobe rekindled some old magic in the Overtime period, scoring 10 points himself in the OT. This 9 game streak also featured losing 105-114 to the Grizzlies, 99-120 to the Suns, 109-136 to the Rockets, 94-110 to the Spurs, 87-115 to the Pistons, and, once again, getting smashed by the Clippers 125-96.

Now, these scores may not seem encouraging, however, the team is clearly growing together, and it really showed in the Sonics last game, playing against the Warriors in hostile environment in Oracle arena. The Sonics were able to keep this game close into the final few minutes in the 4th, where, inevitably, the Warriors finally went on their run, outscoring the Sonics 20-6 in the closing moments to finish the game.

This game gives Sonics fans some hope in this team for this team of misfits to stand toe-to-toe with the defending NBA Champions, on the road.

The Sonics next test will be playing at home against the Brooklyn Nets. We will see if the Sonics can capture that elusive first victory.

Sonics Capture First Win, 99-94 vs. Nets

It was a hard fought game, and a tough 10 game stretch to start the season off for the Sonics, but the time has finally come. The Sonics were able to pull out the victory vs. Brooklyn in a tight, back and forth game, winning 99-94.

Boban Marjanovic led the way in scoring and rebounding for the Sonics, putting up 18 and 12, and adding 5 blocks as well. However, it was Ray Allen who made the difference in this game late. With just under 30 seconds left in the game, it was tied up, 94-94. The shot clock was winding down, and Devin Booker passed it up to Ray Allen at the top of the three point line, being guarded by Brooklyn's Joe Johnson. Allen got the ball, threw a mean pump fake, getting Johnson off his feet. Allen then leaned into Johnson, put up the shot, and earned the foul and three free throws. He would make all three.

On the Nets next possession, Joe Johnson looked to find room for a 3 point attempt, but was met by stellar defense by Ray Allen, who forced Johnson to chuck up a prayer for three, which didn't fall. Ray Allen would be intentionally fouled the next possession, putting him on the line, met by thunderous MVP! chants from this proud Seattle crowd. Allen would knock down both, and close the game.

"This is up there in my favorite moments in my career" Allen said in the post game press conference. "We give it our all for these fans, and this city. And when we're able to win a game like that at home, hearing those fans... it's special."

Allen, at 40 years young, will look to salvage this season as much as possible for the Sonics, knowing that it is likely his last.

Weekly Report; Sonics Get 2nd Win against Magic, Now Sit At 2-12

This week in Sonic's basketball featured 1 win and 3 losses, including the worst loss of the season to this point, falling 69-122 to the Hawks. Other scores included losing 93-117 to the Raptrs, 87-112 to the Heat, and finally winning against the Magic 122-103 on Saturday.

Steve Novak led the way in the win over the Magic, scoring 23 points on 5-11 shooting (5-10 3 point), and going 8-8 from the FT line.

The Sonics defense definitely came to play though, and that's what helped lead them to the win, holding the Magic to just 37% from the field. We will see if the Sonics can build on this win and perhaps put up a few more marks in the W column, currently sitting at 2-12 in the early season.

Sonics Now 5-17, Lose Ray Allen to Injury

The Sonics were able to tack on 3 more tallies in the Win column over the past couple weeks, beating the Timberwolves, Celtics, and Mavericks in the span. However, unfortunate news occurred as Ray Allen will be sidelined due to a torn muscle in his left calf. His recovery timetable is projected at 2-4 weeks.

The injury will put Doug McDermott into the starting lineup, and will undoubtedly put more pressure on Devin Booker to pick up the slack in scoring. Prior to the injury, Allen lead the team in points averaging 14.3 per game. Allen will definitely be missed in the Sonics starting lineup.

Sonics on a Roll Heading into All Star Break

When we last reported, the Sonics were 5-17, most people thinking the best thing to do would be to tank for a higher draft pick. Now, heading into the All-Star break, the Sonics are 21-32, currently 12th in the Western Conference, sitting 7.5 games back of the 8th seed Trail Blazers, who the Sonics were able to pick up a win against last week. The biggest win during this time period occurred in early January, as the Sonics won an emotional game at home playing the Thunder. At one point, the Sonics were down by 10 in the 4th quarter. But then this happened...

After that massive dunk by Cleanthony Early, right in the face of Kevin Durant, the momentum swung to Seattle. The crowd went crazy, and helped the Sonics to a 104-100 victory.

The Sonics now face the challenge of making the playoffs. It will take a fantastic surge here in the late going, but the Sonics are only 7.5 games back. We will see if Seattle is able to will their way into the playoffs

Sonics End Season on 10 Game Losing Streak, finish with 2nd worst record in the league

After the All-Star break, there was optimism in Seattle that the team could contend for a playoff spot. That optimism was quickly squashed. The Sonics ended the season going 24-58, the only worse record in the league being the Nuggets at 20-62.

You could obviously look at the negatives of this, how badly the Sonics looked after the all star break, and, really, the whole year, or you could look at the positives. Rather than eaking into the playoffs and inevitably losing, the Sonics instead tanked to the bottom of the league, and now have a good chance of ending up with the first overall pick (20% odds in the lottery).

                        Thunder Win NBA Championship

The Oklahoma City Thunder were able to win their first NBA championship, to the displeasure of all our Sonics fans, beating the Celtics in 7 games. Kevin Durant, the man originally drafted by the Sonics, won the Finals MVP as well as the regular season MVP.

This now officially starts a big offseason for the Sonics, starting with the draft lottery this Saturday, we'll find out where the Sonics will be picking. The Sonics are reportedly very interested in Jaylen Strong, who is projected as the number one pick on most boards. Ben Simmons is also a possibility for the Sonics, but we'll have to see where they end up picking before we can speculate.

BREAKING: Wyatt Jones Fired As Head Coach of Sonics

The Super Sonics have parted ways with head coach Wyatt Jones, following the Sonics 24-58 2015 campaign. This was Jones' first opportunity as a head coach, after spending multiple years as an assistant. Most experts considered Wyatt Jones job to be safe given that this was the first year of a rebuild, which made today's news quite shocking.

The Sonics are reportedly eyeing recerntly fired Mavericks Head Coach Rick Carlisle or former Suns coach Jeff Hornacek. We're expecting a quick decision from the Sonics front office as the lottery will be tomorrow and the Sonics would like to have things set at Head Coach to help plan their off season.

                            Wild Day for Sonics Fans

Several new folds in the Sonics rebuild plan came to life today. Firstly, the Sonics officially hired Nate McMillan to be the new Head Coach. McMillan is a familiar face for our fans in Seattle. First, his 12 year NBA playing career was all with the Sonics, and also was the Head Coach of the Sonics from 2000-2005. People gave him the nick name "Mr. Sonic" for his 12 years of service with the team. "As soon as I heard the Sonics were coming back, I knew I wanted to be a part of it in some way." McMillan said, "I'm truly blessed and grateful for this opportunity"

Along with that news, the Sonics made another big front office hire, hiring recently retired player Ray Allen to be the team's assistant GM.

And, as far as the draft lottery, the Sonics went in with a 20% chance of getting the first overall pick. Instead, they ended up with the 4th pick. This was unexpected to say the least, but the order will be 1. Nuggets 2. Knicks
                            3. 76ers 4. Sonics. The two names most people wanted to see the Sonics get were SF Jaylen Brown and PF Ben Simmons. Now, it seems likely that the Sonics will end up with neither. We'll see come draft day.

In other news, the Sonics have also declined all of the team's team options on player contracts, except for C Boban Marjonavic. This meaning, the only two players under contract right now are Devin Booker and Boban Marjonavic. It will most definitely be a busy free agency, one way or the other.

                              NBA Draft LIVE on ESPN

The draft pre show has ended, and now the Denver Nuggets are officially on the clock. Bill Simmons and Jalen Rose are on the call to react to the picks.

Bill: I think we know for sure that the Nuggets either take Brown or Simmons here. Really, I don't think you can go wrong with either but if I had to pick, I'd expect them to pick Brown.

Jalen: Either way the Nuggets are either getting a premiere perimeter defender, or a premiere interior defender. We'll see which direction they go

the pick is in, as Adam Silver walks to the podium

Silver: With the first pick in the 2016 NBA draft, the Denver Nuggets select... Ben Simmons, from Louisiana State University!

Bill: A great pick for the Nuggets. I think Simmons is kinda like a taller version Draymond Green, ya know? Very active on the glass, has the ability to be a point-forward for Denver, and always finds ways to score, great pick

Jalen: Reports are swirling that the the Seattle Sonics have actively been trying to trade up in the draft in hopes of getting Jaylen Brown. We'll go over to Chris Broussard who has more on the story, Chris, what have you heard?

Chris: According to my sources the Sonics have reached out to both the Knicks and Nuggets to try to work out a deal to swap first round picks. By what I'm told the Sonics offered their 4th overall pick as well as their first round pick to next year's draft, we'll see if the Knicks decide to pull the trigger.

Bill: Well, we'll see if Adam Silver is up here to announce a trade or a pick.

Silver: With the 2nd pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the New York Knicks select... Jamal Murray from the University of Kentucky!

Bill: Wow! I can't believe they don't go Jaylen Brown there..

Jalen: Well you still do have Melo there for the time being, and this does hopefully solve the Knicks issues at Point Guard

Bill: I still say you go best player available there, and to me, there's no doubt that's Jaylen Brown

Jalen: We'll go back to Chris Broussard now, Chris, can you tell us why you think Jaylen Brown is falling like this?

Chris: NBA Scouts have doubted how Brown is going to transfer into the NBA from college. Brown, while he shows a lot of potential, has shown reason to be concerned with his decision making.

Bill: If teams are really passing on Jaylen because of his decision making it should be their decision making in question. Jaylen probably has the highest ceiling of anyone in this draft if you ask me.

Silver: With the 3rd pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select... Malil Newman from Mississippi State University!

Bill: Wow! Only the 6ers, man...

Jalen: At least they didn't take another center.

Bill: That is true. And I actually like Newman, I think it's a bit of a reach but there's a lot of upside there. if that's really who the 6ers wanted though I feel like they could have still just traded down and got him anyway.

Jalen: You'd have to think this is about as far as Brown drops, right?

Bill: If it's not I'll be somewhat disappointed

Silver: With the 4th pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, the Seattle SuperSonics select... Jaylen Brown from the University of California!

Bill: Athleticism, defense, potential, Seattle picked u a steal here, good for them.
