Just bored at work and I was looking at some boxing stuff. Stumbled upon a few stories about Nikolai Valuev (The Best of the East). He's a 31 year old Russian boxer who's size and record were the first things to jump out at me. He's 7'2 (or 6'11 depending on the site) and weighs 300 lbs. His record, 41-0 against mostly no-names (Clifford Etienne was his last fight).
Anyhow, he fought 2 times in the US at Atlantic City and destroyed both opponents. Was to fight in Las Vegas on 9/14/01, but due to 9/11 wasn't able to come into the country.
From what I read, it seems there are 2 theories about him. Either he's a freak with little skills who just boxes nobodies or he's a guy with talent/size that's trapped in Russia. Doesn't have much money to come overseas often and big name fighters over here have little interest in going overseas to fight him when they can fight a lesser opponent in the US and get paid more doing it.
Just wondering if some of the guys who really follow boxing have heard of him?
Here's some pictures of him against Etienne (guy is HUGE):
