Roger Mayweather, the uncle and trainer of unbeaten Floyd Mayweather Jr, says his nephew is targeting either Miguel Cotto or newly-crowned WBC welterweight champion Victor Ortiz for his tune up fight within the year...
But I don't think he'll give Floyd too much trouble.
Berto didn't have much trouble tapping that chin. But unlike Berto, Floyd's not going to be standing in front of him that much.
Kind of surprising to me that Floyd would want to get into the ring with someone so young and hungry. I understand Floyd is one of the greatest ever, but Ortiz looked very motivated in that Berto fight. He didn't seem like someone who's just going to lay down when the going gets tough anymore. Very interesting matchup if it happens.
Ortiz is far too sloppy to have a chance against Floyd.

Floyd would embarrass Ortiz. Floyd wont gamble and get sloppy like Berto did. Also, if Ortiz tried to press Floyd and be the aggressor like he usually does in his fights, he'd get a whole lot of shoulder roll from Floyd and counter punches to the face all night long and lose by a unanimous decision.
I think the layoff for Floyd will show. I don't think this will be a great fight for him. I know he will win, but he may take some punishment
I'd have to disagree there. To me Mayweather is always ready. The way he sits in his corner after every round shows his conditioning. He paces himself so well and his corner works really well with that.
I like this fight. There's a bit of psychological stuff going on with the monetum of Ortiz and then the dominance of Mayweather. Hopefully it stays set and follows through.

it has to catch up with him though. That's the perspective I have with it. Everyone gets caught. I do think this fight has the chance to fall thru, I hope not I feel boxing is catching fire again. There has been many good fights this year in the short five months and it has the chance of getting better.
This could be an entertaining PBF fight. Ortiz get caught a lot, but he throws a lot to. If PBF wants to stop Ortiz I think that he will.
Every volume puncher Floyd has ever fought suddenly gets conservative after a round or two.
Mayweather's counterpunching is so good, he forces opponents to think twice before letting go.
I don't see this fight being any different.
Still, I doubt Floyd stops him. In fact, Floyd's KO days are long gone.
His hands are brittle, he has no power, and he doesn't like to take chances.
So if you combine that, along with Ortiz becoming a wallflower, this has UD12 written all over it.

I tend to agree with this. That said Ortiz is a young fighter so he may be more aggresive.
PBF, looking to get more buys or more hype may look to go for a stoppage.
I think that you are right for the most part UD12. But there are factors that could make this an entertaining fight with a fight fan's finish.

For sure.
I love Ortiz's style, work ethic and heart. He'll come to fight - no doubt.
And maybe with Floyd's time away from the ring, he'll be a bit rusty and we'll see some fireworks. I certainly hope so.
