No offense to teams that like to play that style but in my opinion the game of basketball was meant to be played in an up tempo, free flowing manner. And at times particularly in college hoops there are too many games that set the game back 100 years.

Shot Clock
Looking at few lower scoring games in college hoops get me thinking. Would lowering the shot clock in college hoops open up the game and get rid of some of the ugly, grind it out type of game? And if so how many seconds should the new clock be?

No and no. I like college basketball unique. If it's just a minor league variation of the NBA, then what's the point?Comment

Re: Shot Clock
The rules you are suggesting would take away any that is remaining and force teams to similar strategies as each other. Anything that makes the college game more like the NBA isn't good to me. I enjoy the different strategies that teams are able to employ. We might complain about the way a Wisconsin team plays, but they aren't there to entertain us. They're there to win basketball games. If their strategy results in wins, then why should they be punished?
I think the college game is just fine the way it is. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I get tired of all these changes that happen to make sports more flashy and highlight-ready. Shootouts/loser points in hockey, rules favoring offense in football, etc.Comment

Re: Shot Clock
I don't want to go to a 24 shot clock like the NBA but I wouldn't mind a 30 shot clock. Wisconsin & UVA will still be able to play their slow tempo and win games.
If it stays at 35 seconds that is fine as well."This is for all of my peoples who understand and truly recognize. Some won't get it and for that i won't apologize"- Talib KweliComment

Re: Shot Clock
My things is great coaches adapt to find success for their teams. If the Bad Boys Pistons teams of the late 80s and early 90 played a slow-down game when many other teams were playing uptempo and win championships. Then Bo Ryan and Tony Bennett can adapt Wisconsin and Virginia to playing with say a 28 second or 32 second clock.Comment

Re: Shot Clock
It wouldn't be unprecedented for the clock to be changed. It was only implemented at all in the '80s and was a 45 second clock. The quickly changed it to 35 and it's stayed there for a while."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. Re: Shot Clock
I wouldn't mind the shot clock being changed from 35 to 30. 24 seconds wouldn't be good because the college players aren't as good as the NBA players; so I think it would increase the amount of bad shots we see per game which isn't as a good thing.
I think 30 seconds would be a fair compromise between the two to help reduce some of the "dead" time on possessions when teams for a lack of a better word run the clock down. I'm not criticizing teams that use the entire shot clock and run offense, it's a criticism of running the clock down and not doing anything for at least the 1st 10 seconds of the possession.
One other random rule change I would do is either reduce media timeouts to 3 per half ( 15,10 and 5) or reduce the amount of timeouts a team has from 5 to 4."Ma'am I don't make the rules up. I just think them up and write em down". - Cartman
